  1. He is playing defense like I remember from his year at SS. Lots of mental mistakes and trying to make big plays instead of taking the sure out. I am surprised his offense has sucked this much, but I don't expect it to continue.
  2. I would rather a player become better and make game changing mistakes in the minors instead of the majors. You can bench a star in the minors much easier than in the majors. I am not saying that all our players would be better for staying another year in the minors, but I doubt it would have hurt. Are you worried about starting their arbitration clocks before they are "fully developed"? Yes, I want the ready to contribute instead of coming up with extreme deficiencies like Weeks(defense), Hardy(offense, coming off injury), Hall(overall baseball smarts). We shouldn't expect much learning to be going on on the MLB team, it should be done in the minors. Or do you think the Brewers are going to be too competitive in 2009 to have players learning on the run. I would hope that the Brewers will always be in a position to be competitive where we don't have time for players to learn on the run.
  3. I'd do this Weeks Fielder Cameron Braun Hart Hardy Hall Pitcher Kendall but I would be ok with this Weeks Cameron Braun Fielder Hart Hardy Hall Pitcher Kendall I hate Kendall leading off as I think he should be off every third day and that would mean a lineup shakeup every third day. In fact the only lineup that I would hate is Pitcher Kendall Hall Hardy Cameron Hart Weeks Braun Fielder
  4. A .265 BA would be a dissapointment compared to expectations for him a few years back, but if he can put up numbers similar to last year's number every year, he will be a top 10 2B offensivley every year.
  5. I would like to see this approach as well. Hart seems to be the only one of our young players who was ready to play when he was given a starting spot. The rest had major deficiencies. Most still have a lack of fundamentals in one or more areas.
  6. He had a .373 OBP last year. Better than everybody except Fielder.
  7. Sheets has been on the block, according to ESPN, for several years now.
  8. He also stranded tons of runners to keep his ERA down.
  9. I have never been a fan of Hall's defense. He just seems to be a good athlete playing baseball instead of a ball player. He is, in my opinion, the worst fundamental ballplyayer on the team. He plays balls off to the side on defense. He is a flat out awful base runner. Last, but not least, he looks like he is guessing at the plate more often than not. I think he can hit better than he has and should, at most, only be on the bench once per series instead of a straight platoon. He had similar LHP/RHP splits as Hardy and Cameron coming into the season and none were thought of as platoon players. I don't think that should change based on what has happend so far this season. If you look at the numbers, which I currently am not, Rickie and Hall's numbers are pretty much a push. But, Rickie is trying to go the other way and he also take a few pitches. Rickie is a better base runner and currently a better fielder. Weeks also has a .335 OBP to go with his terrible BA unlike Hall who is sitting at .292.
  10. Well I hope everybody's grilling went well this weekend. Mine not so much. I was a little inattentive and burned brats today. I guess I will have to try again tomorrow.
  11. Don't do that either. I don't answer the phone during games.
  12. Ned Yost, Brewers - Ned Yost's aggressive attitude in the clubhouse and on the field has turned some players off, in turn, dampening the mood in the clubhouse. Ryan Braun and Prince Fielder have expressed a lack of confidence and that comes directly from the manager's attitude in the clubhouse. If that's true, Yost is saying one thing in the media and doing pretty much the opposite in the locker room.
  13. I thought Gamel was supposed to be working with Don Money on his defense in AA.
  14. I would never do that. It's just rude.
  15. I was. I wanted to send Parra and Villy to AAA in order to keep Vargas. I wasn't sad to see Vargas go, I just would have shifted players to keep him. I can't fault Melvin for moving him though. He thought Villy and Parra would help the MLB team more than Vargas.
  16. Sweet, I miss being able to walk up and buy tickets for a weekend game.
  17. Who's offering excuses? People are trying to use W/L records to point to Yost being a bad manager. The W/L record has way more to do with actual talent on the team than anything a manager does. Payroll shouldn't factor in at all when judging talent. There are to many variables that have nothing to do with talent. As far as how this team is currently dong when compared to expectations, it is just to early to look at how good this team is. There is no way Hall, Weeks and other keep performing at these ridiculously low levels. If there are specific things you think Yost does poorly, I have no problem with that. W/L records for managers show nothing except whether or not they were smart enough to take a job with a good team.
  18. You are probably right. It has nothing to do with managing really crappy teams.
  19. He was sent down for at least part of the 2006 season to get some playing time. I am not sure if he was on the big league roster long enough in other years to make up for that time spent in the minors.
  20. We finally get the payoff from Russ's post. Two parter no less. http://www.hardballtimes.com/main/article/when-to-walk-part-1/ http://www.hardballtimes.com/main/article/when-to-walk-part-2/
  21. It would. The PA at this point in the season probably has more to do with playing time. Moving a guy up the order will never lessen his PA. The 2nd spot in the order probably should go to Fielder or Braun, but that was covered in the designated lineup thread a couple months back and probably belongs more in that thread than here. PA by spot in the batting order #1 - 221 #2 - 215 #3 - 212 #4 - 210 #5 - 205 #6 - 201 #7 - 198 #8 - 194 #9 - 186
  22. See this is a topic where I am not sure what to think. I don't like Hall or his defense at any infield postion. Seeing him play less would make me happy. However, if we didn't think Hall was a platoon guy or close to a platoon guy at the start of the season, why should we think he is now? Unless I am taking it to far with sample size, we should expect Hall to return to his predicted production at some point. He has never struggled against RHP like he has this year. I can see giving Counsell one more start a week in place of Hall, but any more than that and I think it is just wrong. If the coaches are seeing something in his swing that makes them think Hall is a little off right now I can see playing him a little less until he gets back on track, but just looking at numbers I see no reason to platoon Hall. Of course I could be way off.
