  1. Don't even bother with the 360's without a hard drive. Unless you plan on downloading a bunch of movies the 20 GB version should be enough.
  2. Well at least they can get all the retirees from Boston and New York that live in Florida to several games a year.
  3. If next year's draftees make it to the big leagues by 2010 I would be very surprised. That is how quickly Braun moved through the minors. I efinatley agree the next draft is a really good opportunity to restock for when our current studs leave.
  4. Have a glass of whatever you had the night before. Seriously though the best thing is to get up and move around. When I used to go out we would often play golf early in the day the next day and by about the 5th-6th hole I would start feeling better. Liquids and fresh air.
  5. This is sort of off topic, but it is funny how so many people(myself included) forget we still have Mench on our roster and under our control next year. I just say this because he makes a good RH bat in a platoon.
  6. Outside of a bad April and May, Hall played a solid CF. He was brought in late in games as a defensive replacement a few times even when there were better offensive options already in the lineup.
  7. I have all my holiday shopping done before Thanksgiving in most cases. Just have a couple odds and ends to pick up. If you start at the end of July there are a lot of good sales especially at Toys R Us.
  8. I agree that in baseball you don't draft for need in general at the top of the draft. Best case scenario is you get a guy who can help you 2 years after he is drafted, Ryan Braun. At the bottom though I would draft to fill out depth in the minors. If you get good guys in the draft, you can always trade them or the MLB player blocking them to get what you need later. Like others have said though, drafting a catcher high, without reaching to much, would be a very good idea.
  9. Big Reed, The teams you mention all had more than just closers. They also had 2-3 guys that could be counted on to get to the closer. That is where we differed from them. When Fingers was the closer he was called a "fireman". He came in as early as the 5th inning and was used for more than one inning in many cases. He was used more like Marmol than Dempster, just to use a Cubs comparison. I don't think the Brewers would have had our starters pitch any diffferently if we did not have Cordero. I don't think our season would have been much different. Maybe 1 or 2 wins due to a few more blown saves. Many of the games we lost were in the 6th-8th before our closer even came out.
  10. Statistically it doesn't make sense. Relief pitchers, many of them, seem to like having a certain inning or situation to pitch in. They like to know what their role is. The best for the team would be to just tell all of them to be ready in the 5th or later. Unless you are that long relief guy, then you have to be ready in the 1st and can sit after the starter gets through the 5th.
  11. I am waiting to see if the Cubs stick with that next year. I think it would be the smart thing to do, but when a pitcher is your best reliever it is tough to keep him in any role other than Closer unless the guy is young or you don't designate a closer.
  12. We had that guy in Villanueva for the first half of the year. This is why I have no problem with Turnbow as the closer as long as we have somebody better to take the stopper role.
  13. It almost seems like the back story to The Dark Tower might be more interesting than most of the series itself. I would like to read more about Roland's journeys preDark Tower series. Wizard and Glass type stories. I liked the first 4 books alot. After that they just seemed off. Not bad, just off. Like they could have been interesting, but weren't. I really didn't mind the end. "Death, but not for you gunslinger."
  14. You are right. I thought it would have been the first post. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/laugh.gif Edit: Upon reading the title my first thought, while rolling my eyes, was here we go again with Yost. Still my sick sense of curiosity draws me here.
  15. There is a fine line between being a homer and wanting the team you cover to win.
  16. I liked Rock before, but I thought he was even better this year with BA. I think a lot of that was I felt they got along better that DS and Rock did. It just seemed like they were put in the booth together and acted like they got along, but really didn't.
  17. I don't know why people want the DH in the NL to help Yost since the biggest criticism of Yost is handling the pitching staff. Sounds like another reason to get in a slam of Yost to me.
  18. Kevin Mench isn't as bad of a defender as we think. I wouldn't call him good, but I think he is at least average. Interesting to me was that Gross is projected to get better in RF, but worse in CF. How does that work?
  19. I like that there are two different sets of rules within the same game. It makes baseball unique. How many other sports have 2 sets of rules depending on which league you play in. In baseball it actually matters where you play.
  20. Management isn't all it's cracked up to be. You end up responsible and taking the fall for everybody working under you. Also leaves you in a position where you really shouldn't hang out with the people who work under you or it looks like you are playing favorites.
  21. The woodland citters are form a Christmas episode where Cartman reads his story to the class.
  22. Good point. I agree. I found myself chuckling about this by the time I was done reading it though. Not because I thought what you said was funny, but because the outside guy they brought in last year was fired because he was not on the same page.
  23. It is pretty easy to fire people who don't show up to work on time, BUT it has to be well documented that they are late. You have to have written documentation that he was warned. Something along the lines of, your salary is based on 40 hours a week and you are expected to be here from such a time until such a time. I would also lay out what the job expectations are. Since that also seems to be a concern. In general, if somebody is always complaining about their salary they will never be happy with their job. If salary was the major concern I think it would have been brought up in a more professional way and in private.
  24. Yost generally doesn't get tossed much. He just had a bad week in September this year.
  25. I was going to mention that also, but I thought that might be close to infringing on the religious guidelines.
