  1. Sure he said it but he was wrong.
  2. How much did the Brewers starting rotation in 2011 resemble the starting rotation in 2009?
  3. I seriously doubt Segura is feeling pressure from a guy in A+ ball.
  4. The Cubs were not likely to be a lot better next year either. Samardzija and Price look to be available after the 2015 season. Sign both and make another trade for a pitcher along with their expected offensive and things turn pretty quickly. Let's not pretend a team in a market as big as Chicago won't have money to spend. Their TV deal is kind of a mess right now but half their games are up for sale with the rest coming up in 2019.
  5. If I were the Cubs I would wait to buy Price when he becomes a free agent. No reason to give up anything now when you can buy him a couple years from now when he will really help the team. Use your resources to get talent not available in free agency in a couple years.
  6. You're thinking boats.
  7. At worst he can be a platoon player at 2B with Scooter and backup SS.
  8. Most players often get days off that coincide with pitchers they don't do well against. Knowing that I just don't think him playing more against lefties is going to impact his numbers so much as to suddenly make him a below average hitter. Maybe not but it would definitely take him out of All-Star consideration.
  9. and ignore how he did it. If you don't think context matters that's ok.
  10. I am not sure what next year has to do with the All-Star game this year.
  11. I don't think they should make any decision on where to play Lara based on MLB needs. He probably at least 6 years away from the majors. You don't draft based on MLB needs why would you make a decision like that based on MLB needs with a guy at least 2 years younger than anyone entering the draft? You play a guy at the toughest position he can handle and worry about it when he is MLB ready. Like they did with Lucroy.
  12. Please tell me I'm not the only one seeing the incredible irony in this. viewtopic.php?f=63&t=29536&start=120 That right there is funny stuff. I like this one.
  13. Lots of teams have useless back end guys. The issue here is for some reason these guys insist on having 8 guys in the pen, when starters have been averaging into the 7th inning. Big time overkill. Cull the number down to seven, and add an outfielder. Use Wang as the long man, no need to keep Figaro around to pitch two times a week. I thought I was over the top enough saying that every team platoons 1B and 2B. Guess not. Every team has a mostly useless guy at the back of the pen. I have no idea why we think we need 2. That along with platooning 1B and 2B, and keeping a really poor back up not really good at anything in particular guy is what is hurting us. The roster construction is just really bad right now. Wang is really not even close to the top of the list of problems.
  14. If he wasn't being platooned and putting up similar numbers, sure. I have a really hard time justifying a platoon player being in the All-Star game.
  15. I was pointing out that Gomez at one point in the minors took walks. Scooter really never has. Gomez just had to adjust his hitting to the majors. Gennett has to learn something he has never done. Not saying he can't but there are no parallels between the two other than low walk rate. Scooter never showed much power in the minors. If that isn't a mirage there is some hope but unless he keeps up the power I doubt the walk rate will increase.
  16. Yup. No other team in baseball has a useless guy at the back end of the pen. Every team platoons 1B and 2B. That's not hurting us at all.
  17. It wasn't just the BB rate with Scooter. It was also the lack of power. Gomez did walk more than Scooter in the minors. He was also younger compared to other players than Scooter. Not that Scooter was old. Basically Gomez was younger, had better tools, and showed better plate discipline and power in the minors.
  18. The offensive portion of fWAR looks like it is adjusted for park factors.
  19. LA, San Francisco, And Petco are all tough parks to hit on. The NL west except for Coors
  20. Hopefully. Never really showed up in his time in the minors.
  21. I don't care. Doug Melvin can always find a right handed 2B who can take on the lefties in a platoon situation. Platoons (properly used) are not a bad thing. I am not so sure about that. Doug Melvin has failed a few times recently to replace seemingly crappy easily replaceable players. Yuni, twice, and Overbay spring to mind immediately.
  22. Platoons are not a bad thing by any stretch. Platooning would make practically every player look better. You can only platoon so many positions without seriously hampering your roster flexibility. Hopefully when Scooter isn't platooned he will continue to hit well.
  23. How would his stats look if he actually had to face left handed pitching on a regular basis? Lots of guys can look good in a platoon.
  24. Balls and strikes should be done by robot umps. Just because they are not willing to fix that doesn't mean they shouldn't try to get something right. The AC doesn't work so I am not going to fix my flat tire.
  25. They were the second best hitting club in the NL so assuming a normalish hitting distribution they should have been close to the top in run scoring as well.
