  1. In other words, welcome to mediocrity.
  2. One better way to trade Aoki may have been to use him as an add on in another trade to get a better player back.
  3. Its more like trading Peralta or Nelson for a below average starting RFer than Fiers. Same age but Smith has had more success at AAA. I didn't want to overstate it. I think Peralta is overstating it a bit. Still, we probably came out ahead on this deal unless Smith ends up as a reliever.
  4. No, I am saying he should have traded for more long term solutions instead of fixing things for a couple years at a time. I think he is shortsighted which is fine for a team that drafts well or a team with lots of money to spend. We are neither right now.
  5. You should have your shirt tucked in and untuck at the end of the tour.
  6. Aoki was about average for a MLB corner outfielder. If you look at it as trading one of our starters like Fiers for an average corner outfielder this is a good trade for the team receiving the pitcher.
  7. Melvin's entire history is the reason to mistrust him. Where are we now as a franchise compared to when he took over. The first few years it was great but recently he has been trading away the future over and over again for the present. He did the same thing in Texas.
  8. It was a really stupid move.
  9. He was a reliever in AAA last year as well. That was a reference to the Lawrie trade.
  10. Probably find out later other GM's didn't even know we he was available.
  11. Sure seems that way. I also would have preferred a younger higher upside guy. If Smith turns out to be a decent starter this is a great trade. If he ends up as a bullpen guy this trade kind of stinks. It doesn't make us significantly better now or in the future. Maybe this was the best Melvin could get for Aoki.
  12. I'm not sure why you feel the scouting insights you've heard -- and I'm guessing these, like most, were BEFORE the Brewers traded for him -- automatically carry more weight than the opinions of the Brewers' front office, who are extremely experienced and who see him play everyday. Stats are great and worthy of so much of the clout they carry throughout sports, but they can be independent and therefore also ignorant of the eyeball-obvious, which is not devoid of truth. The Brewers signed Yuni after having him play for them for an entire year.
  13. That is a move in the wrong direction. Gut our MiLB system even further. No thanks.
  14. I don't think we are in the position to win any time soon, so I say you take the best prospect - even if he's in A ball. Would I like a great prospect in AAA? Sure. But it's not likely to happen for Aoki. The team should just shop him for the very best prospect they can get - no matter what level of ball or position. I like that idea. Shop Aoki and take the best prospect offered. Starting Aoki over Davis or Davis over Aoki, neither is a good option.
  15. Hard to say for sure what they are going to get out of him. At least it looks like they should get some good defense. If he stays healthy it shouldn't be a horrible contract for at least a few years. Seems like a lot of money for a guy who is so up and down season to season and has a lot of his value in defense. I will start by saying I don't think Gomez is going to be as good going forward as he was this year. If somebody thinks he is though, I would trade him without a second thought.
  16. Career .304/.376/.498/.873 in the minors. Defensive issues were mostly throwing related. Never played enough in the majors to make those stats worth looking at. On a league minimum salary when the current option is Francisco, yes. VS Hart, maybe. Depends on what Hart wants.
  17. Burn Busch stadium to the ground. Get all the people out first of course.
  18. He probably got dropped because he is eligible for arbitration. I wouldn't be surprised to see on a league minimum contract somewhere.
  19. I fear the lack of power because I think it will cause his walk rate to decrease further.
  20. Considering his MiLB numbers that is a big if. His defense is also a big if. Having a lack of power will make it tougher to translate his skills to the MLB level on a consistent basis. Huh? Over his 4 seasons in the minors and his BA/OBP line are: 2010: .309/.354 2011: .300/.334 2012: .293/.330 2013: .280/.327 http://www.baseball-reference.com/minors/player.cgi?id=gennet001rya I am well aware of that. Like I said, having a lack of power will make it tougher to translate his skills to the MLB level on a consistent basis. That is why I care about the power. He is also trending downward as he goes up each level.

  22. There'd be no downside in picking him up... you'd rather continue on the 'Juan Francisco is terrible' merry-go-round? I think you mean terrible-go-round. If I were Gamel I would not sign with the Brewers. I would go somewhere I have a chance to start or at least a good chance to make the MLB club. It is clear the Brewers don't think much of him. I don't think he would get a fair shot at this point. If all else was even the Brewers would pick the other guy whomever that may be.
  23. I guess what I should have said is that learning something and retaining it are separate things. I doubt most people look at maps enough to remember where most countries are. UK, France, Italy, Germany, and probably Portugal most people know. I think Greece and Turkey are a little more iffy. India, China and Russia I think most people could point out. Probably Japan. People may mix it up with the Philippines. I doubt most people could correctly point many if any countries between Germany and Russia. Possibly Poland. Middle East I think most could locate Egypt. Probably Saudi Arabia, Iraq and Iran. I could see people mixing up the Scandinavian countries pretty easily. A lot of it depends which countries are on the news and how often people watch the news. I didn't know the difference. I had to look it up. I think the three are used interchangeably but they shouldn't be.
