  1. Why do you have to suggest such terrible things?
  2. Best organization from top to bottom in baseball. As a Brewers fan I'm not afraid to say it. No shame. Top 3 for sure, but no baseball organization is better than the Yankees organization. The success of the Yankees dwarfs every other team. Richest and best are not the same thing. The Yankees are the richest.
  3. Who's going to go into the outfield to take the cut from Gennett from his noodle? This is what I was going to post. The Davis to Gennett relay would allow David Ortiz to score from first base. Of course the way around this problem is to have Aramis Ramirez trip baserunners as they round third base. Aramis would probably injure his knee doing it.
  4. That was very popular in our grade school. Weird Al Theme song.
  5. This frees up some money to sign a mostly washed up starting pitcher next year. Yippee.
  6. He has worked himself up to about average. Average for a LF where the bar is set pretty low.
  7. What do you mean by competently in the outfield?
  8. Lots of guys go on waivers. Almost every single player in fact.
  9. Braun's issue at third was throwing. He wouldn't have to do that much at 1B. I definitely remember it being kind of a sucking-at-everything-on-defense issue at 3B for Ryan. That is how I remeber it also. He didn't have fielding instincts coupled with a very inaccurate throwing arm.
  10. That stinks. I know that if a property is sold a tenant may not have much time to move out. Something like that happened in Oshkosh a while back where a whole street of college students had to move out on the weekend of finals.
  11. That is the main reason to go with those guys. Upside.
  12. Gallardo, Lohse, Peralta, and Estrada are probably locks baring injury. I would rather the rotation be filled out with a young guy instead of somebody like Narveson or Gorzelanny who are both old and not in our future plans. We have a large enough sample for both to know they are not all that good.
  13. Double post.
  14. I don't think you understand regression. Being due and regression are not the same thing.
  15. I thought Listach was doing a good job for the Cubs.
  16. I am not sure how coming out and reading that statement would have helped. It may have even hurt as every single little facial expression or voice inflection would have been analyzed to fit any given reporter's narrative.
  17. Dead Man on Campus
  18. What good young player? Ramirez's contract precludes them getting a quality prospect in return. That is why you pay a large portion of the contract as stated in post #44. You are counting on Ramirez being healthy until next year's deadline. Of course he probably will hold onto Ramirez. I don't care when Melvin is retiring. I will be a fan long after he is gone so I hate moves being made for Melvin's own selfish reasons. The most likely move is some foolish signing of a veteran scrapheap pitcher in a desperate attempt to be a playoff team next year. If they are not competing next year all they really need is roster filler at 3B. I think Green can be more than that but at worst he should at least be roster filler. We will need a 3B going into 2015 whether or not we hang onto Ramirez. I sincerely hope he is not still with the team in 2015. I just don't trust him to stay healthy.
  19. I would if we could get a good return. The money is spent either way. Do we want the old player who will only be around one year or do we want a good young player who will help us for years to come?
  20. I don't know about that. June was Phillies, A's, Phillies, Marlins, Reds, Astros, Braves, Cubs, Pirates. July Nats, Reds, D-Backs, Marlins, Padres, Rockies, Cubs. August Nats, Giants, Mariners, Rangers, Reds, Cards. That is a lot of losing teams over that stretch. We just got back into playing good teams again. I would rather just look at the season stats but when people want to look at a stretch and think we are doing well the level of competition really needs to be taken into account.
  21. I have a very hard time believing there will be a difference of 6 WAR between Gomez and Schafer going forward. Using WAR like that is why some people have such a problem with it. WAR is a counting stat. Given equal playing time that gap shrinks. There is about a 10 run gap in their UZR/150 which is basically useless for Schafer at this point. Given that Gomez had an UZR/150 of 6.9 last year I think we can go with his career UZR/150 which is 16.2. Second, and probably more important, I don't think it is reasonable to expect Gomez to hit like he has this year. I think somewhere a little better than last year is much more reasonable. I also think Schafer can hit better than he has in a part time role this year. Once you back out most the fielding because of uncertainty and adjust both players to reasonable expectations at the plate the gap probably isn't more than 2-3 wins max. Easily made up trading Gomez and his 3 year contract for a couple young cost controlled players. Preferably at least one pitcher. That said, I would be shocked to see Melvin make a move like that. He was probably hoping Schafer would shine this year then trade him instead.
  22. If he can play average defense and post at least a .700 OPS he would be close to an average 2B. The question has always been whether or not he can do either let alone both.
  23. If he had not been caught he could still be using and be a better player.
  24. We have been playing against dreck since the start of June. Without some major moves we are probably still a bottom half of the league pitching staff next year.
  25. He will probably at least use capital letters and punctuation. He probably will not use IM speak either, which is nice.
