  1. Drafting well would have alleviated some of the problems but there has been enough time to realize that we did not draft well and make adjustments. I don't feel those adjustments have been made. Do we really have All-Star talent at SS and CF? Both had a good year this year, the first half anyway. Is that the production we can/should expect every year? I don't think it is. Is the pitching talent in AAA good enough to produce any top of the rotation guys? I hope Thornburg can be that guy but there are serious questionmarks about all the guys.
  2. When talking about his trade value, his prospect ranking is very relevant. Whose prospect ranking? Baseball America or any other media ranking is completely irrelevant. The only thing that is relevant is the potential acquiring team's prospect ranking and perceived value/upside. They probably give a good insight into what other teams think.

  4. Looks like Trout is head and shoulders better this year so I think Cabrera will win.
  5. I chuckled at this. They must really dumb things down on air if they have access to things more cutting edge than Fangraphs. I am sure that most (if not all) teams have access to data (such as Fieldf/x) that Fangraphs doesn't have access to. Of course they do. I doubt most MLB analysts have access to those stats.

  7. I don't think any of those guys will be enough of an upgrade to make it worth while to give up building from within. Way back in 2008 when we had good minor league talent and a club close to playoff talent I could understand giving up the long term plan a bit for a short term solution. However, we have not done well enough on building for the long term for a few years now and our MLB club isn't close to playoff level right now either. If they want to sign a guy thinking they can flip him at the deadline I would be okay with that. It just doesn't seem like Melvin's MO.
  8. The Lohse signing by itself isn't catastrophic. It is just one choice in a long line of choices hamstringing the franchise. I could even forgive the money part of it to some extent. That is why I wouldn't have a huge problem with a one or two year deal for any of these guys provided we didn't give up a pick. Not that it would be a great idea to throw money at any of them.
  9. When the Brewers aren't hitting, the same second guessers say the manager should do something to try to manufacture runs.On this board, no, they don't. It would be better if you addressed specific posts instead of throwing out blanket statements that are untrue. I suggest you spend a little more time reading here getting to know the people a little better. Even when things work right that does not mean it was the correct decision. A decision is right or wrong independent of the results.
  10. That was the hope many had going into this year. Then they signed Lohse. They can do both if they stick to signing guys on short term (like 1-2 years tops) deals. Say they signed a Wandy Rodriguez for 2 years, and he pitches well. Either he's going to help them contend, or they'll have yet another guy contenders will covet in July along with Lohse, Estrada, and Gallardo or they could trade one of those 3. One or two years without giving up a pick would be fine. Probably not the best use of money unless the end goal is to trade him though. On the other hand many people also though Lohse would get traded to a contender this year if we were out of it.
  11. I have been pretty clear in the past that I thought giving up a pick to sign Lohse was a bad idea and a complete waste given the talent of the rest of the team. We didn't need proven depth. That is a need for a playoff team or a team with a strong farm system. What Lohse has actually done is inconsequential at this point. He has not brought back a good player in trade and cost us a pick. The few marginal wins he may have added are actually worse for us right now.

  13. I don't like the idea of having 2 guys on the roster who are limited to 2B.
  14. It wasn't really a fluke season. He was just a terrible hitter even for a pitcher.
  15. I don't think the effects on Brauns play will be from the mental side. I think they will be from injuries and age. How much of his career to this point has been helped with quicker recovery from injuries due to PED use? We don't know but Braun has had one injury or another effecting his play almost every single year. What if those would have been slightly worse even half the time? How much time does he miss? How does it impact his play if he doesn't miss time.
  16. We also don't know how Braun will age. He will be 30 at the beginning of next season.
  17. Players Union would not allow it even if Braun and the Brewers wanted to do it. That seems like an extreme position to take.
  18. Things have been a lot better this week. Even on my home computer where the site has been slow for the last couple months. Dial-up slow.
  19. Haven't you heard? They have changed it to a Yuni inspired restaurant. It's called Yuni's Betan Food Court. They serve lasagna that has more range than Yuni.
  20. That happens in all walks of life. It has more to do with people being lazy and not actually making an effort to find the right or best person, just the quickest solution. Not necessarily. I am guessing this is a case where everybody knows everybody else pretty well on a work basis. If this was a bigger company or possibly a very large school they may not know as much about all the other teachers/employees. Probably just favoritism or the head principle having somebody in mind when the position came open.
  21. I think you are ignoring injuries and age.
  22. Change could to should and I would agree. How much he hustles is debatable. It is hard to make excuses when you are almost never interviewed.
  23. If the infield is playing in the contact play should only be on with 2 outs. Then it doesn't matter if the out is made at home or at 1B. Less than 2 outs and it should only be used if you don't want to score anymore runs. If the ball is hit to a fielder the guy at home is out. If it isn't hit to a fielder the guy at 3B walks home. You shouldn't play for an error unless you have no other options.
  24. The speed is a lot better but now the site lost all it's formatting. Had the same problem last night. Now it's better.
