  1. I know/hope that you were being fecicious about "stacks of cash".
  2. I agree with endaround. People are grousing about 5/50 for Weeks being too much but would take on 3/48 for a lesser player. No thanks
  3. I agree Doc. Anything to improve the team is worth a look. I'm unsure of options on Dickerson and Boggs, but I know that Gomez has one left. Why not take advantage of it to "Jerk a knot in his tail" and maybe get his attention. I'm not sure how tough Money is at AAA but maybe he could straighten him out. As has been stated time and time again, he has the tools, he just needs to put it together. Better to find out at AAA then with the big team.
  4. John, I have to disagree with you on this one. With Gomez' sorry OBP%, hes not much of a base stealing threat at all. He is, at least in my mind, lights out in CF.
  5. Schlitz, I agree with you 100%. First off, I'm not a big stat guy, but as these names were getting tossed out throughout this thread, I was going to fangraphs to check history, projections, etc. I've come to the same conclusion as you. We simply aren't going to do much better than what we've got right now (unless the Mets get stupid and want to give up Reyes for nothing). Punto is a decent fielder, but I've seen him a lot and the only reason the he got so much playing time is that hes "scrappy" and Gardenhire had a man crush on him. Keppinger isn't going be be ready before the season and Houston isn't going to trade within the division anyway, so hes off the list. Scutaro? Really? Cool name but would you trade anything for him? Furcal would be nice but hes not gonna come cheap with regards to what we'd send them and his contract. I've also laid stats out on fangraphs and at least from what I was seeing, most of those guys are interchangable anyway. I don't know what Doug has in mind but in my eyes, SS is a giant black hole that could cost us dearly.
  6. You're now up to 31%. Nearest competitor is 21%. Good luck from a fellow divorced dad.
  7. He looks great. Gabe Kapler, no but good for Prince. I just hope he doesn't become preoccupied with his next contract and struggle like he claimed a few years ago. With this rotation and the offense, we will be a force.
  8. If the White Sox want him and no trade can be worked out, just let Hoffman go. Really, could they possibly get anything of value for him anyway? CV is a different story. He should have some value based on his age alone. Just my two cents.
  9. I nearly soiled myself and also ran to MLBtraderumors. Nicely played.
  10. Nieves, I disagree that we couldn't get Bucholz and Ellsbury. Look at what they tossed on the table for Halliday last year and they knew that was only for a year and a half. I think its safe to assume that Prince is gonna end up in Boston, NY, LA etc. Why wouldn't they trade for him knowing full well they are gonna make a run at him in free agency anyway? Invader, I think at this point Anderson is just a throw in in just about any trade. He is not "all that and a bag of chips anymore". I saw one article that labeled him a border line bust. As far as Gamel at first, I think he'd be just fine there. I don't get caught up in the whole "You HAVE to have power from this position or that position" thing. If the guy can hit and contribute, then thats fine with me. Mark Grace wasn't a power hitter and he had a pretty good career although he was know for his glovework. The same can be said for Olerud, Overbay, etc. I understand that 1st base has always been a position of power but its not written in stone. Travis, I guess part of my argument above pertains to you as well. Yes, the corner outfield spots are usually postions of power but whats the matter with having a speedster in RF who can steal a ton of bases and score a lot of runs? These are just my opinions fellas.
  11. All right. No responses to the original post made me realize that my first proposal was out of line, so lets try again. Lets face it, Prince is not gonna stay here and we need to get something for him. Why not focus on Boston with a deal focused on Ellsbury, Bucholz and a few other pieces including a decent 1st base prospect? Ellsbury and Bucholz would be under control for what I'm guessing is 3-4 years, then factor in a few minor leaguers and that sounds like a pretty decent haul. In this scenario, I have Gamel at 1st. An outfield of Braun, Gomez and Ellsbury sounds pretty damn good to me. Not to mention the speed factor. Add in Ellsbury SBs along with Gomez and Escobar and we are suddenly a small ball NL team with a pretty decent pitching staff. Gallardo, Wolf, Bucholz, Davis & ________ would be pretty decent. There is no way we're gonna find another Prince, nor be able to replace his power so why not try to change the complexion of the club with essentially one move? Hows this sound?
  12. I agree with you Paul. Gallardo really started a domino effect. Since we're playing the what if game, can you imagine if he'd have stayed healthy and Melvin would have still traded for CC? Just dreaming.
  13. Funny you mentioned Dice K. He and his enormous contract popped into my head as well. Do you really think that he'd have to spend at least a year in the minors? I kind of envisioned a Liriano sort of debut. If I recall correctly, he was brought up about mid season and demolished the entire american league for the rest of the year. I really wish I knew more about Chapman.
  14. I was just reading an article from Jeff Passan on Yahoo and he only projects Chapman as getting a contract of 5 yrs/$27M. I understand that there is the "mystery/cuba" factor but is this something that Melvin should be begging Mark A for? I can see it now, DM tugging on Marks sleeve like a 4 year old trying to get his moms attention, saying "Mark, Mark, Mark, Mark". If this guy is all they say he is, and lets face it, none of us really know anything about him, it seems like a reasonable price to possibly catch lightning in a bottle. I hope DM and MA realize that the window is closing and they'd better make a move. A rotation of: Gallardo Wolf Chapman (projections of course) Parra Bush This looks pretty damn good to me and look, NO SUPPAN On a side note, any thoughts on Tejada? Heres the link http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/news?slug=jp-freeagents010210&prov=yhoo&type=lgns Heres another tidbit on Chapman: 4. Aroldis Chapman, SP: Based on potential for greatness, he's No. 1. Based on potential for calamity, he's No. 131. Lefties who throw 100 mph don't grow on trees. In fact, they don't grow but every 25 years or so, and here is this generation's.
  15. As a Brewer fan that lives too close to MN, my opinion is that Liriano is nothing but a reliever from this point forward. I, like most was blown away when they brought him up but after his arm exploded, hes just not a starter anymore. That being said, he may still be able to sparkle as a set up/ short relief guy. I think most people still expect/want him to be what he was and he just isn't.
  16. Not busting on Macha, but Counsell should have been up there at the end. I threw up in my mouth a little bit when I saw Hall steo into the box. You can't fault a guy for "playing a hunch". You never know what Macha was thinking. Can we argue with him so far?
  17. I would actually give Doug a bit of a higher mark, not much but a bit. I say B-. Snagging Wright, Looper and possibly Gagne brings him up above average in my book. He has set himself up well to have a powerful bullpen or potential trade chips towards the end of spring training. Just my opinion.
  18. I agree, I'd love the chance to fail.
  19. I too would prefer Gamel at 1st. Followed by JJ at 3rd, Escobar at SS and Rickie at 2B. I just think moving Gamel to the OF is a waste.
  20. Ever since our return to respectability, I've thought that Pitt made a very good trading partner. With our system packed with prospects and them having major league talent, albeit limited, there are some intriguing players over there. Jason Bay comes to mind and I know they have some decent pitching, both starters and relievers, as well. I know trading within the division is taboo but I don't think we'll have to worry about Pittsburgh for quite some time. Its not like we're trading with the Cubs or something like that. Thoughts?
  21. Very well thought out Luke. This rotation for the rest of the year should scare the crap out of whoever we play!!! However, as was mentioned elsewhere in this forum, maybe even this thread, we need to start looking at possibly limiting Parras innings. I'm all for using him against St. Louis, Cubs, etc but I'd be tempted to skip him against some of the lesser teams like San Fran. Agree? Edit: Eliminated unnecessary long nested quote. - Toby
  22. Crabbe was just not ready for MLB and he was being sent down to the minors. The Pads still love him its just that the Brewers bought him back when he the Padres sent him down. I believe that is what happened. You are correct Nate. No matter how much they loved him, they would have had to keep him on the 25 man roster all year and apparently he just wasn't ready. Were he to be shipped over in a trade, he could be optioned to the minors. If I'm wrong, someone please correct me.
  23. I agree Elcaballo, although you have to get over his departure. McClung could just rear bach and throw gas 4 time a week, the turn it over to Torres.
  24. Is it just me or does it seem like Mota blows up everytime something matters? We could have been in great shape today until he came in and blew up like a cheap water balloon!!! That dude has no business being near a major league mound. He is horrible. I understand that there were a few runs given up after him so don't bother trying to deflect tthe blame. He sucks and should be DFA'd, cut, shot, mauled, whatever it takes to get rid of him. DeFelice, where are you?!!!!!!!!!!!
  25. WOW, thats quite a disparity of opinions!!!! I say, if we can get Brian Roberts, get him. He may very well put us over the top!!!!!!!
