  1. Sad stuff. I guess Andy Marte also died in a similar crash today/last night.
  2. I agree, I would think that Guerra would get a bigger haul if he can have success early next year. Those prospects from the Marlins don't excite me in the least.
  3. I like it. Would have been nice if there was an option year to maximize the upside/potential return, but if he can keep his HR numbers down, he could thrive and be flipped for an interesting piece at the deadline.
  4. ditto. we already have a couple of better versions of angel pagan on the team and in the minors.
  5. I'll admit to getting a bit giddy when I read that fangraphs article on Thames. I'm not going to count on it, but if he can come close to those projections then look out!
  6. Trading one of our back end starters (and a prospect?!) for Jeffress would be total lunacy. I have no doubt we will sign a "proven closer" looking to rebound so we can trade him, but under no circumstances should we give up any real assets other than cash to do so.
  7. Rogers for Broxton and Supak, just a tremendous trade. Huge win for Stearns and co already.
  8. the fact that the front office gave Plumlee that huge contract when he didn't/doesn't ever play makes me nervous about any potential moves they could make.
  9. With how the reliever market has gone, it is going to take substantially more than Gennett and a marginal prospect for Robertson. Hahn would laugh Stearns off the phone if that was the offer.
  10. Braun has been "clean" for the past 3 seasons. I don't think that the talk about another potential failed test is anything but teams trying to drive the ask down.
  11. Anyone else noticed that basically none of the trade rumor articles in the national media even mention Braun at all? I wonder if it's because Stearns is tight lipped or if we're really planning on keeping him.
  12. Since Piña appears to be out of options, I'm guessing Susac or Bandy will be ticketed to AAA to play every day. Will be exciting to see what we have in one of them in Milwaukee next year.
  13. I really struggle to see how Braun fits there, even if we take back a lot of dead contracts. At least now that they have their other pieces locked up, we should know pretty soon whether or not there is a fit.
  14. This is highly disappointing. Lay off the reefer Phil!!
  15. Load up on those huge contracts guys.
  16. I for sure think we'll sign one of the remaining bounce back guys. We have a need and a unique opportunity to give guys a chance to close. If we can bring a guy like Storen or Feliz in and they have success closing out games, we could flip them for a nice prospect this summer.
  17. I think the Padres have three rule 5 guys, so my only hope is that it becomes a huge strain on their roster and Diaz is clearly overwhelmed and comes back. The most likely scenario in that case is a WCW like DL stint though.
  18. Without looking at his stats, the fact that Caleb Smith is 25 and pitched in AA last year doesn't make me very excited about that pick. We should have cleared Goforth or Scahill's roster spot and protected Diaz.
  19. I think the Padres have the time and patience to keep Diaz on the roster all year and then stash him in the minors. It's not like they're competing this year. I hope I'm wrong though.
  20. Miguel Diaz will be the #1 pick in the rule 5 draft by the Twins, to be traded to San Diego. I am furious.
  21. http://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/mlb/2016/12/08/gimme-a-hundred-red-sox-brewers-trade-contains-100-clause/95132726/ Interesting
  22. So what are the odds we find out about the PTBNL tomorrow after the rule 5 draft?
  23. Eaton is pretty good and also is relatively cheap for the next 5 years. Unfortunately, with McCutcheon out there still and obviously not going to Washington anymore, I think this could hurt a potential Braun trade.
  24. http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2016/12/white-sox-trade-adam-eaton-nationals.html White Sox are really doing well in the trades they've made in the last couple of days. Rosenthal: Source confirms: #Nationals, if deal is completed, will send Lucas Giolito, Dane Dunning and Reynaldo Lopez to #WhiteSox for Eaton.
  25. exactly. If I were them, I would have signed Carter to play 1B for a fraction of the cost of Desmond and kept my draft pick.
