  1. And yet for everyone I know (Cubs, Cards, Tigers, Twins, and Brewer fans) MLB Network has already passed them in terms of baseball coverage in under a year. I hope ESPN it taking notes on how easy it is to put together good sports programming. That combined with their ridiculous product placement and Disney tie ins has made ESPN an easy target. They have been completely ruined by their parent conglomerate and I will continue ripping on them as I feel they have more than earned it every time they have a Bud Light 6-pack of questions or try to tell me who is more "NOW," The Rock (who just happens to be in Disney's The Tooth Fairy) or one of the Williams sisters.
  2. If he pitches 200 innings I for one wont be ecstatic.
  3. I think all those things add up (combined with the Deadspin article Bernie posted) to paint a portrait of a guy who is kind of a jerk and said something stupid. Bing, bing, bing. I think this is the main point that everyone agrees with. To say what TK definitely meant is to over analysis and conjecture for a guy who just plain said something stupid. It was work place inappropriate and I don't think anyone is going to argue with you over that. I took objection with some of the harsh stances and definitive statement you made in this thread such as what he meant and the exact reason he was suspended. From what I have heard it has just as much to do with his comments about Chris Berman. Its so easy to jump to conclusions and throw a public figure under a bus. Watching this thread play out reminds me of that Simpsons Episode where Homer peels the gummy Venis De Milo off the baby sitter's "sweet, sweet can." I can't wait for the made for TV movie about this starting Dennis Franz.
  4. Definitive statements like this are what is making it difficult to take you too seriously here. Again, you really don't know what pushed it over the edge just like you don't know what TK meant when he said it.I simply don't know what a workplace appropriate definition of a "Holden Caulfield Fantasy" could be. If someone could point out a harmless alternative to what he might have meant, in the context of that discussion, I'll gladly back down from my assertion. So now you are just saying it isn't work place appropriate? I thought you were definitively saying: Which one argument do you want people to respond to at this point?

  6. Just to be clear, I haven't heard ESPN mention anything about sexual harassment. My comment was in response to Flood Pants' post about it being "definitely sexual harassment." When ESPN thinks you harassed someone you get sent to MLB Network, not suspended.
  7. I am planning on trying MLB.tv during spring training to see if I can output it to my 58" plasma from my netbook. Here in Chicago, Comcast charges the same amount for Extra Innings as around the rest of the country and they advertise the 40 HD games a week, but they don't actually show them. SD baseball is no good, so hopefully MLB.tv looks better...otherwise I may have to call direct TV. How Comcast can get away with that blatant false advertising is beyond me.
  8. I see the Holden Caufield reference as extremely insulting, insinuating that at best she is someone you would hook up with but don't find attractive. Again, insulting but I can't stand when people throw around sexual harassment acquisitions like this. It really diminishes actual sexual harassment.
  9. When did asking someone to cover up constitute sexual harassment? Harold Reynolds hugging interns you can make a case for. This...come on!
  10. You obviously didn't go through 5 years of college on a diet consisting almost entirely of beef sticks and Monster Energy Drinks.
  11. Interesting.. but when Baseball Mogul's AI let the deal go through (and I ran it multiple times), I thought I'd throw it out there for y'all. Figure Detroit decides to put Caballo at first base - per Baseball-Reference.com, they had Chris Shelton at 1B, and Rondell White was considered their top LF. If I recall correctly, Chris Shelton ended up being the best player in baseball for the first 2 months of the season.
  12. I don't think he is actually a coach. I think he is pretty much just a hype man.
  13. Again, you are giving up a bullpen spot. That would never fly.
  14. Really though you couldn't pick a better time with the NCAA tourny coming up. Cross your fingers you stay unemployed until the end of the World Cup! http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  15. Just to be clear, that wasn't last year. That was Yosts terrible idea to misunderstand Bush's stats and come up with that joke of a pitching platoon. The other negative aspect of having a 6 man rotation is that you are basically taking away a long man from the pen. Think of it like this, a five man rotation really is no different than a 6 man rotation, except that you have the 6th best starter ready to come in when someone is ineffective or gets hurt. I will take that flexibility any day over an actual 6 man rotation.
  16. Fine, then I wont share the life changing findings my new metric has uncovered. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/tongue.gif
  17. When I was laid off from my old job 2 years ago, they wanted me to transfer to their Denver office. I declined, and was told my last day would be in 2 weeks. At no point did it come up that I was quiting or anything like that. I was given severance and paid for my unused vacation, then went on unemployment. This was in IL and I know every company is different, but I would talk to your HR department and make sure this is a layoff. That being the case, absolutely file for unemployment the day you are terminated.
  18. While I think it is fairly obvious that the Cubs are an "older" team than the Brewers, would anyone be interested in trying to quantify this? I just did a weighted average of the Brewers '09 ages by WAR. It took about 10 minutes thanks to Fangaphs export feature then a little bit of dirty work from Baseballreference to enter the ages. I can do one for the Cubs at lunch or tonight, but before I keep going does anyone see any issues with this? Obviously it is for the '09 season, but I could probably plug the 2010 projected WAR in as well. This would seemly account for the "core players" being more important and telling us more than just a team's average age which would be effected by that 38 year old guy sitting on the bench.
  19. Looks like its not out till March 9th. I have a leaked copy thats floating around the internet until my preorder comes.
  20. He picked a pretty bad time to have a "breakout year." If he had done this 2 or 3 years ago he would probably have gotten a 3 or 4 year deal.
  21. That really doesn't make any sense for a sport like moguls.
  22. Broken Bells is just fantastic. James Mercer and Danger Mouse. Its difficult to say how much I like it right now as I have only been listening to it for a week, but I think its my favorite album since Challengers by the New Pornographers and I think that came out in mid 07. Note, this is from someone who really liked The Shins. If thats not your kind of music you may find it a little slow.
  23. Wow...what a terrible night of college basketball for the state of WI.
  24. Bucky, I find that very hard to believe, but am more than willing to listen. I know we are not supposed to get political here, but I would like to give you an opportunity to expand and explain how your previous post wasn't a blanket statement rooted in personal bias and was instead specific to this project.
  25. I think there used to be a lot of overlap between ESPN's Brewers and Cubs boards (i.e. trolls) so they got togeather and made their own messageboard they could control to get away from the bad posters. I like it because I relocated to Chicago so I can connect with a lot of the Cubs posters even though I am a Brewer fan. For example, if I want to talk about Lollapalooza or the Chicago Olympics, I will start a thread in their off topic section. Its a lot less moderated as well. I have an account and lurk at Northsidebaseball too. Kind of a generalization, but sometimes I think the perspective of some posters here is a little narrow towards the Brewers and Wisconsin in general. Its nice to get other opinions and points of view even though they are often just as homerish.
