  1. MLB hates their fans.
  2. Before all the talk of glasses/eyesight issues this Spring, I projected Hart to bounce back and put up better numbers than the previous two seasons. We may never see the 2007 version, but something like 2008 with a better obp and batting average seems likely. I think he'll put up good numbers for a 6 hitter. Something along the lines of a .800-.830 OPS.
  3. We better hope Suppan is great 'cause it looks like Davis ain't gonna cut it.....
  4. I thought Gomez had been kicked off the team so Edmonds could have more playing time.
  5. It's starting to drive me crazy that Gerut is stuck with the Wasted Player Roster Spot. I can't buy the organization's assumption that Edmonds is automatically a better choice.
  6. I remember a Jenkins catch in LF that similar to Chavez'. He didn't go over the wall, but crashed into it with his throwing shoulder, caught the ball, then threw out a runner at 2nd or 1st. That's how I remember it anyway... Jenkins to Damian Miller DP on June 24, 2005 against the Twins was a great play. Cuddyer was on 3rd, one out. Shannon Stewart hit a weak fly ball over 1B. Jenkins came running in, caught the ball and still running in, threw to Miller in one motion to get Cuddyer. Yount's catch to save Nieves' no-no and end the game was pretty sweet. The best play I ever saw in person is the second clip in this video:
  7. I understand that; and trust me, I'd rather Parra was the 5th starter than Suppan. I also think Soup's contract was pretty much the deciding factor. That and his Veteran Grittiness, which drives me mad whenever that happens. Still, I won't wish Suppan pitches terribly and the Brewers suffer just so "justice" can be served in my eyes. I'd rather he pitch as well as he ever has and the Brewers thrive.
  8. This is the kind of idea that should get you promoted to a front office job.
  9. Because MLB doesn't give a rat's patootie about its fans. All they care about is hiding owner's profits from public scrutiny and breaking the players union.
  10. It's not uncommon for someone to throw out their back with a good honkin' sneeze.
  11. And one of those seasons he was purty awful. Worse than Suppan.
  12. He did catch Wakefield, at least last year. The "scouting report" from New England friend had GK as a very capable catch and throw guy, in part due to his excellent work with Wakefield.
  13. We can only hope he is given that short a leash. It's not that I'm cheering against him (we could at least use the pitching depth), but if he gets shelled two or three times, I hope the Brewers are honest with themselves and with him.I too hope the Brewers are honest in evaluating his performance. But I don't want him to just suck and blow a half dozen games. I'd rather he pitch great and the Brewers end up with the strongest starting rotation in the league this year. The old Oriole Way included using young pitchers as long relief specialists while they learned the league, then working them into the rotation over time. It's not such a bad thing to do this with Narveson and Parra.
  14. To be fair, one of the few reasons to respect them. Not really. They just have buckets of cash that other teams don't have. They can keep any player they want because there is no team to bid against them.
  15. I think it would be a mistake to hit Rickie anywhere lower than 3rd. His on base skills would be wasted batting 5th. Common sense seems to argue Gomez at leadoff, Rickie batting second, but until Gomez can show consistent on base skills keep it the way it is.
  16. Totally got me. Just got out of a long taxing meeting and fell for this hook, line and sinker. Well played, man, well played.
  17. Last year I was Positively Optimistic and incredibly wrong. Undaunted, I'm taking the same tone this year. 93-69, first place NL Central. The Crew starts off so-so, while Soup, Hart, Gomez, McGehee are given every shot to keep their jobs. They'll hover around .500, maybe a few games over into June. By the end of June, starters who can't hold onto their jobs will be riding the bench, DFA'd, or in the bullpen because this year, unlike last year, there is major league quality depth on the 40 man roster. They'll hit their stride in July and never look back, dominating the division in the second half. 2nd Prediction: If they finish in 3rd or worse and struggle to something around .500, Melvin and Macha will be fired.
  18. They are paying him $12.5 million this year. He is paid based on his history of providing 30 starts, 180+ innings a year. Traditionally veterans don't win or lose jobs based on Spring Training. They are going to give him 10-12 starts to show he can do what he was hired to do. If he can maintain Mediocre Jeff Suppan role, he'll keep trotting out there every 5th day. If he can't and one of Parra or Narveson are pitching great, then they'll make the change. I'm not saying I agree with it, but this is what Veteran Gamer-Good Ole Boy status gets you in MLB.
  19. If he's placed on the 15 day DL, that's the minimum number of days he has to stay there. But he can stay on the 15 day DL for a long time. Pitchers can be sent to the minors for rehab for up to 30 days. So, as I understand it, they could place him on the 15 day DL, and keep him hidden/on rehab until June or possibly later. I don't know that a team has to prove a player is injured, but if it goes on too long, I would think the Players Union would get involved and file a complaint.
  20. It seems Parra may be the odd man out since this is his second appearance in a row coming in mid-game.
  21. Another good reason to wait. Like I said, I don't think it's in the Brewers' best interest to try and ram a deal through right now.
  22. I think the Brewers have no idea what kind of team they'll have this year. Another season of pitching woes, regression on offense and they might only win 75 games. Everything falls into place, Parra and Bush bounce back, Wolf and Yo pitch their best and they may win 95. If things go wrong the best move is to trade Prince, cut salary, and try for a quick 1-2 year rebuild around Braun and Yo. If they make the playoffs they'll want to do a long term deal with Prince and ride this crop of young veterans as long as they can. I agree with Doug. This isn't the same as the Mauer situation. It's tough to know the best move right now.
  23. I understand what you're saying now.
  24. Sure you hope for that, but it must be pretty rare that a team has 5 starters throw 180 innings each. Usually the guy with the 5th most starts on a team makes only 21-26 starts in a year. 26 starts at 6 innings a pop is 156 innings. Quick look at a few of the best teams in the league last year; Colorado was the only team to have 5 pitchers start at least 27 games. 4 started at least 30, while Aaron Cook started 27 and threw 158 innings. The fact they had their top 5 healthy enough to take every turn in the rotation is probably the top reason they made it to the playoffs. The Brewers had the same idea but their starters didn't stay healthy.
