  1. He didn't have Tommy John surgery did he?
  2. Yes, that's what I meant. Granted injuries played a big role last year, but it seemed either Counsell or McGehee, two bench players, were in the lineup nearly every day. (once again, not both but one or the other.)
  3. Edmonds, Gerut, or Counsell are going to be in the lineup nearly every day, so that gives you the righty off the bench. The roster appears set, unless the cut Gerut for Gritty Veteran Gamer Edmonds, and carry a 5th righty OF'er instead.
  4. I agree. There just wasn't really any room for him in Milwaukee. No, not after they crowded him out. It's sort of self fulfilling. Just like what will happen with Heether and Oeltjen.
  5. Lofgren has really struggled in the high minors. Is there a reason we should wring our hands over him being handed back to Cleveland? I wish they wouldn't dump Hurricane for Inglett. But maybe Inglett would be a better Craig Counsell in 2011. I still think Irribaren can be a good major league 2B.
  6. I can't figure out whether this topic is a joke or not...
  7. You've coined a brilliant phrase there, my friend. Is it all right if use this going forward in every aspect of my life?
  8. I think Gamel will get his shot. If McGehee puts up the number Sickels' proposes, then he's decent trade bait. If Gamel hits well and shows he can play 3rd in AAA, then he's the everyday 3B in 2011. If McGehee is terrible in 2010, Gamel is called up by July at the latest.
  9. I think it's that he's not very good and you can picture yourself being him if you just would have tried harder. Sort of like Craig Counsell. I mean guys like Braun or Prince are just so obviously talented it's hard to identify with them. Sure they had to work hard to get where they are, but the God given talent is hard for a schmuck like me to comprehend. With Eckstein or Counsell, or some guy like that, you can at least delude yourself that if you'd worked harder in Little League and played Legion Ball and didn't go drinking so much in college, well, maybe, with a little luck you could have made it to the majors too.
  10. I'm not in favor of a salary cap, but I think you "fix" the draft by capping contracts and eliminating signing bonuses.
  11. Mark Loretta has always been one of my favorite players. Weeks. Branyan. Sheets. Brian Roberts. Werth. Nick Markakis. He just showed up and played like a perfect No. 3 hittin' RF veteran right away. I always like Zaun too. Hopefully I still will this year.
  12. Do teammates really hate Milton Bradley? Or Sheffield? I thought they were more of the type hated by management and the media. Jose Guillen seems to be a guy that everyone hates. Otherwise, these are the guys I don't want: 1-Toolsy, but can't get on base 2-Intense gritty veteran known for his Veteran Grittiness 3-Multimillion dollar veteran who plays at replacement level or below and takes a job away from a solid minor leaguer.
  13. Jerome Christensen from Winona Daily News weighs in: http://winonadailynews.co...f-8701-001cc4c03286.html
  14. My favorite Twin when I was a kid-Cesar Tovar! Averaged about 600 plate appearances per year for a decade-(66-75). Career innings played by position: CF-3500+ innings LF-2400 innings RF-1586 3B-1639 2B-1576 ss-494 And of course, there was the game in September 1968 where he played a different position every inning, including 1B, Pitcher, and Catcher. Let's not forget Mark Loretta who always seemed to find 400-500 plate appearances a year without a set position to start the season.
  15. I'm really tired of the velcro glove adjustment after every at bat. Seems like all players are doing this now. Maybe they need a different fastener than velcro if it loosens that easily.
  16. Melvin Mora pre-dates them all. They're sort of the Jonh Havlicek of the baseball world. Hall lost his job cause he couldn't hit anymore and managers kept playing him in situations where he was set up to fail, i.e. hitting against righties. He's athletic, plays solid enough defense, and used judiciously could be a good 25th man option. He could play another decade if he could get back to the middle infield and still pop a few homers.
  17. Suppan is the new Kendall!
  18. The organization doesn't seem to respect Bush as much as Suppan, so I fear he's the one most likely to be jacked around first. If Suppan fails after 10-12 starts, then maybe Bush will get a shot. It's difficult for organization to bury their top paid pitcher in the pen unless he's a premium closer or he's is terrible as a starter. An ERA in the low 5's for Soup and the manager will keep him in there, claiming he's almost turned the corner and only one good start from being right where they expect him to be. Of course this scenario would be huge mistake. If Bush shows he's healthy he should be the 4th starter.
  19. Haven't been to the new park but attended a game at RFK three years ago. The metro was definitely the way to get to that ballpark. Cost me $1.75 from my downtown hotel to the park and back. Also bought a ticket from some guy standing outside. There were lots of people selling them. $15 bucks for a seat right behind home plate about 15 rows from the field.
  20. So is it possible Gomez starts in AAA? This would justify signing Edmonds if Doug wanted the option to take Gomez back a step. Most feel he was rushed to the majors, so plunking him in AAA for a year may not be the worst idea....
  21. I don't like it all. I guess if he's hitting at a 40 homer pace during the season I'll warm up to him, but I don't want to see him get 250+ plate appearances, especially if the team hovers around .500 for most of the year. If he's stomping around already proclaiming he'll be in the lineup against every righty, then he's a detriment to the team. If he makes the team it almost certainly means Irribarren gets cut, there's no room for Gamel, or possibly Gerut is gone.
  22. The game is scheduled for 6PM (Central) tonight on MLB network.
  23. Davis appeared to be a soft tosser in steep decline at the time Doug traded him. There is much gnashing of teeth on this site about trading a player while they are at peak value. In the 3-1/2 seasons Sharpie was a Brewer his ERA went from 2.58 to 4.91. He gained a full walk per 9 over that time. His K:BB ratio was a pathetic 1.56:1 that last season. Before coming to Milwaukee he was a guy struggling to build a career, with very limited success in the majors and a poor K:BB ratio. At the time of the trade it looked like Melvin had gotten the best Davis was ever going to offer as a MLB starting pitcher, so it was wise to trade him before the bottom fell out. Vargas was nearly 3 years younger and coming off a better season than Davis while pitching in a hitter's park. Criticizing the trade in retrospect is revisionist.
  24. Wow the comments after the story are embarrassing and stupid. Ben will always be one of my favorite Brewers. One of the best pitchers to watch in all of baseball, imho. Was there a ever a better Brewer pitching season than his 2004? Never understood the injury prone tag, nor the hatred. The guy threw 674 innings from age 23-25 and never complained. He should have sued the team for abuse after those 3 seasons.... Win the Cy Young this year Ben. That should really irk the idiots.
  25. It was a goofy, fun thing to do. I never understood how that celebration was any more showboating than the standard "mob the hero at home plate" celebration that takes place after every walk off. It was one of the highlights of the season.
