  1. But I thought getting rid of Ned Yost was going to get rid of all of the Brewers problems and make us a better team? Oh how some people were wrong. Ned is sitting somewhere on a tree stand laughing right now.
  2. It's pretty hard to fire a GM that took us from a 56 win team in 2002 to a 90 win team in 2008. Sure, all of his moves haven't worked out, but a most of them have and he's got the 2009 team in contention once again for the NL Central division. What more can we ask from a small market GM? Should we replace him with Jim Bowden? Doug Melvin can be our GM until the end of time (if he could live that long) if it were up to me.
  3. It also rains in Florida. That majorly sucks for people traveling with the risk of a rain delay.
  4. Thanks, FTJ. I was thinking he'd accept as well. If he did, it wouldn't be all bad because we'd have nice infield depth and a super sub player that could fill in at any infield position. It would all but ensure a Hardy/Escobar trade of some sort, though, and make Counsell expendable which is ok since he's getting a bit up there in age. He'd be a nice insurance policy for Weeks as well in case his wrist isn't ready to go for Opening Day.
  5. Think they'll actually show more than half the games in HD next season?
  6. Has there been any discussion on whether Lopez would accept arbitration if we offered him after the season? If there was, my apologies for not ciphering through 17 pages of thread.
  7. Fielder Independent Pitching on an ERA scale. It basically explains how much the defense is hurting or helping a given pitcher. The defense is really screwing Carlos this year.
  8. Villy's FIP is still 3.71 right now and he has a rather unlucky .340 BABIP in the statistically volitile role of a reliever. The ball isn't just bouncing his way right now and teams are hitting his changeup. He'll make an adjustment in the mop up role and will be back to being effective before the season is over.
  9. Well.... Parra Pitched well. But just his luck, the bullpen didn't and the offense can't hit before 7 pm. Poor Manny.
  10. Ryan Braun has backtracked and hopefully him and Melvin are on the same page now. I got quite a laugh out of the quote something along these lines: "Doug and I are cool!"
  11. One other thing that might come out of this is Melvin might be looking to build up a new team as he might be frustrated with the limited resources that the Milwaukee Brewers have and this might be the ticket he is looking for out of Milwaukee to try and do what he loves: build a team from scratch to the playoffs.
  12. I do, but you cannot deny that this is added pressure on Melvin to make a move. The casual fans are on Braun's side on this one and Melvin might not want the fan base to turn against him. I will go on record once again to say that I am on Melvin's side on this one, but there might be some good that comes out of this.
  13. I think this could end up being some healthy conflict in the organization that might stimulate a move from Melvin for a starting pitcher, but I do hope that we don't have to overpay in the process, and obviously Melvin knows this because he's taking his time trying to get a good read on the market to make a move in the next 25 days. As for Braun, it isn't his place to be bickering at the front office because his job is to produce runs and not to banter to the media, but his frustration is understandable. Let's take a look: 1. Gallardo 2. Looper 3. Suppan 4. McClung 5. Burns A rotation like that will not get a team to the playoffs unless 80 wins is good enough to win the NL Central this year. Bush coming back will help us out, but we really need Parra to come back refreshed and ready for a stretch run just as Rickie Weeks did 2 years ago after a short minor league stint in the mid season. If we add another Doug Davis type or hit the jackpot with a healthy Bedard or Javier Vazquez, then we can start talking about 90ish wins again.
  14. We can differ on opinions as to how good of a manager Yost was, but I'm pretty sure Hall would have a firm spot on the bench right now under Ned Yost. He's seen enough of Hall and gives enough respect to prospects, which Macha isn't currently doing by the way, that Gamel would be playing every day at 3B, and I would argue that McGehee would be our every day 2B which is how most people think our infield should look. And I think in an organization like the Brewers that HAS to rely on prospects to win, Yost was a pretty good fit. You could argue that Macha had to play prospects in Oakland, but we all know who the real manager of that team was anyways. I'm still not sure why Beane doesn't just take over as GM and Manager of the A's. If you don't agree with that opinion, see Moneyball.
  15. He gets a pass because there was such a prejudice against Ned Yost by this board and by the overall Brewer fan base because he didn't make friends with the media and fans and was actually a darn good manager, but I've beaten that horse already and Macha is for sure getting a free pass that he won't be getting after his honeymoon period is over for the fan base.
  16. Fine with me on Yo and Hoffman not getting in. They'll get some nice rest over the break and be back and better than ever.
  17. He turned a pretty nice double play on a diving stab today. His defensive value is 7 runs above average to other shortstops according to fangraphs. Hardy also can hit, although his small sample of numbers may not show it this year. He's the type of player that when he gets hot, he can carry a team and from the SS position. Last year he was 13.7 runs above average offensively, but this year he is 9.7 below average. I think this years numbers will level off. Hardy has a ton of value and will bring in a nice pitcher in the offseason if the Brewer front office decides to go with Escobar as the opening day 2010 SS.
  18. The guy is putting up some pretty good numbers this year and he's 24 years old. It might make sense to give him a shot if Burns doesn't work out. In 3 starts in Nashville, he has pitched 15 innings with 15 K's and 1 BB. His overall minor league numbers put him at a 2.62 ERA in 2009 with time in Bervard County, Huntsville, and Nashville. If he keeps it going, he better at least be a September call up. Looks like a good trade made by Melvin for Gabe Gross.
  19. Who knows. I'm convinced that the blackout rules are just random.
  20. Where were these outside strike calls yesterday by the way? Specifically in the bottom of the 10th inning.
  21. According to fangraphs, Braun is -2.7 runs below average on defense and Soriano is -3.1 runs below average. They are essentially the same player out there in LF defensively.
  22. According to fangraphs.com, DeRosa is +4.9 runs above average on offense after park and position adjustments and he is -3.1 runs below average on defense. He is 1.1 Wins above replacement, and I believe that is over a full season so the Cards gain a half of a win from this trade. Although it is a minor help for the Cards, don't count on it winning the division for them. The Cubs and Brewers are still the favorites in the NL Central in my opinion after 162 games.
  23. So the autograph I obtained from him at Spring Training is now worth nothing. He promised me he was going to stay drug free, too. Liar. Lol.
  24. I'm surprised the Umpires Union is allowing this.
