  1. I don't think throwing 120+ pitches is a problem for an established veteran like Sabathia. Especially since Carston came out and K'd all 3 guys showing no signs of fatigue. It's a bit more of a risk factor with Sheets, but it's all or nothing right now with those 2 guys because they are good as gone so I'm all for taking the risk of their arms being dead in 2009. If it affects 2008 then we gambled and lost, but in my opinion, it's a gamble worth taking.
  2. Can I get in on this too? My money is on the Brewers.
  3. Maybe I'm reading that incorrectly, but it looks like the Cubs have an easier schedule in the 2nd half based on run differential. Am I correct?
  4. Yeah it baffles me how guys like Michael Bourn, Willy Tavarez, Dave Roberts, and Juan Pierre have made livings in the Major Leagues as leadoff guys despite being poor hitters. Craig Counsell would be that type of player with less speed, but better OBP. I do still like Weeks though and wish he could get a shot lower in the order, but we can't do that if we want to give Craig Counsell a shot in the #1 spot. If we could just find someone who could hit #5 as well as Hart does, then we could lead off Hart and that would give Weeks his shot lower in the order.
  5. How does this affect him being able to start on Saturday vs the Giants? If anything it will keep him sharp between starts.
  6. I idea of Hall going to 2B is a good one, but his defense was pretty shotty there in his limited appearances. I think even Weeks plays better 2B defense than Hall right now.
  7. That's a huge honor. Congrats to Big Ben.
  8. My mistake on that one. My prediction still stands. There's no way the Twins end up with 90 wins. They are playing with House money right now and the House always wins. I'm going with talent here. Not Grittiness.
  9. I think we can officially say Bill Hall is back because he started vs a RHP today and did a good job. The outs he made were drives to Right Field and that's what I like to see out of Billy.
  10. So the Brewers and Twins have identical 52-43 records going into the All-Star break. Any predictions as to which team finishes with the better record? I say the Brewers finish at 88 wins and the Twins finish at 82 wins.
  11. At least Sheets can go past the 6th inning on a consistent basis.
  12. Not a bad start at all for Homer. It's just too bad he was facing the best pitcher in the National League.
  13. While I like that you guys are thinking outside of the box by doing a Bush/McClung platoon, but it's just not the best solution right now. Pitchers, like most baseball players are creatures of habit, and throwing them back and forth between the bullpen and being a starter just because you are at home when you are the park you pitch in has nothing in its dimensions that favors a pitcher just doesn't make sense. It's nice to look at the splits and say it's as simple as that, but you have to justify the splits with a logical reason. If someone can give me that logical reason, now we're talking. This isn't one of those "It is what it is" scenarios. I'd part ways with Mota and give Stetter a bigger role in the bullpen if I were managing the roster.
  14. Well since we ended up 6-4 going into the All-Star break, I wouldn't exactly consider that a "stumble". Could have been better though. I think Friday's game was the one we really should have had if Cameron catches that ball.
  15. As sad as this sounds, Weeks is still our best option to lead off right now based on the fact that he can only improve with that horrid BABIP.
  16. I agree that this would benefit Weeks, but who is going to lead off then? If you say Corey Hart, then who's going to protect Prince? I love Hart in the 5th spot.
  17. So should we be worried about Lawrie not signing? We only have one more month to get the deal done.
  18. I find it hard to believe that a 900 OPS in AAA translates into a .740 OPS in the majors. I'd like to see the basis of those numbers. That's pretty dramatic. I think Brad could very easily be an 800 OPS 1st basemen in the majors. That said, an 800 OPS 1st basemen is nothing to brag about.
  19. Yeah as a Brewer fan I hardly even look at the score of the minor league games. I just look to see how everyone did individually, but if the teams are winning games then great, but it's not the most important thing when it comes to the minor leagues. The minor leagues is for player development and whatever else comes of it beyond that is a bonus.
  20. Did you guys read the scouting report on McClelland? I don't even care if I misspelled his name. They entirely disagreed and had said he makes it personal. That whole survey was a joke.
  21. Yeah if you waited until May of 2009 to call up Gamel, you'd get one more year out of him so it's unlikely he gets called up when you already have Nelson as your LH bat off the bench.
  22. Harden pitched 5.1 innings and had 10 strikeouts today. He was pulled because the Cubs had a 7 run lead and his pitch count was at 96. I'd consider that a success for the Cubs today with Harden, but still plenty of question marks if they have to pull him that early. They are really trying to be careful with him and let's hope they are too careful in future close games and it costs them.
  23. I agree with you mostly, And That. I do think Parra's innings should be limited to 170 innings, but I just don't want it to be at the expense of an extra start or two in a critical game.
  24. I'm sorry to hear that. I don't know what I'd do without golf.
  25. The downside would be if we missed the playoffs by one or two games and we lost most of the starts that Manny could have pitched. All I know is that if Parra is held out of the Cubs or Cards series because of saving his innings, I'm not going to be a happy camper.
