  1. Protection in the lineup is an overrated thing that announcers like Bill Schroeder like to talk about when they have nothing else to say. Each hitter has a scouting report and pitchers try to execute the best way to get them out. It doesn't matter who is behind them unless first base is open or something in a close game.
  2. Kind of like the Minnesota Gophers. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  3. I know it was silly, but it was fun to say. Gwynn is fine in CF for 25 games. Gross is fine as a 4th OF for the rest of the season. No point in arguing between the 2 because there is no end to it.
  4. What's more important: a)what sportswriters think or b)performance on the field?
  5. Tell that to the Trevor Hoffman and the San Diego Padres.
  6. Best wishes to Sharpie!
  7. Why would a cubfan be on brewerfan.net? Doesn't make any sense to me. I recommend northsidebaseball.com.
  8. That's debatable, but I see your point. Villy is overhyped a bit.
  9. Yeah he called the Brewers a 2nd tier team where they would have anywhere from 75 to 90 wins and had the Cubs well over 90 wins. Maybe we're all blind up here in Wisconsin, but I'm not seeing the greatness of the Chicago Scrubs. Although if we had 100 years of losing up here in Milwaukee, maybe we'd get all the first place predictions as well.
  10. Seth Everett was on WSSP this afternoon with Cliff Saunders and when Cliff asked him how the Brewers bullpen is shaking out he said he doesn't like it and that it's a disaster waiting to happen. He noted that it was a poor excuse for Gagne's 2nd half last year that he wasn't used to not closing games and that the Dodgers got rid of him because he's just not that good anymore. He also thought Mota didn't have much left and didn't mention Torres, Turnbow, or Riske. I do think that we are weak at closer with Gagne being a risk, but with all the other options we have, How can he say our bullpen is horrible based on one bad half year of Eric Gagne?
  11. I think it's a safe bet that Lilly's ERA is 4.5 or less this year.
  12. I filled mine out yesterday and I had Hart as the most clutch because he has the best BA with RISP with a decent sample.
  13. I'll bet you a case of beer that Lilly's ERA is significantly lower than 5.
  14. As Chris Berman would say, "That's why they play the games" http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  15. Is this thread going to be brought up throughout the whole season? I am interested to see the results.
  16. In order to get a large sample you have to pitch, so let us watch Villy obtain his sample this year and hopefully for many years to come.
  17. The Cubs rotation is the safe bet to be better because they have more of a track record, but all it takes is a healthy year of Sheets and a breakout season by Bush, Parra, or Villy and the Brewers rotation would be far and away better.
  18. I couldn't agree with you any more. He's a nice pitcher. Just not a guy you want as your #2 starter.
  19. Thanks for pointing that out. I had no idea. Very wishful thinking.
  20. I don't think Suppan is Claudio Vargas. Suppan is flat out better. My point was that he was pitching pretty damn well for St. Louis and he pitched for crap with us. The only value he provided was that he ate up 200 innings and kept us in ball games. I expect more out of a 42 million dollar pitcher. 42 million is big time money for a small market team. Why does everyone think that we're gonna be able to trade this guy? Who's going to take on that kind of salary for mediocre pitching?
  21. Because he came off a career year in St. Louis and dominated the Brewers every time he faced them for years. And what do we get in return? A mediocre year for big time money.
  22. Maybe that's why I like ESPN. I love the NBA.
