  1. How about Yovani Gallardo? I mean we all expected him to be good, but did we expect him to be our stopper down the stretch? I didn't think 21 year olds could have the poise that Yo has had this year. Not to mention that he added a couple home runs to help his own cause.
  2. I'd give him every opportunity as a starter and if he's an absolute failure, then we can talk bullpen/closer. He's too young with too good of stuff to be grooming him as a closer yet.
  3. Reported from JSOnline: http://www.jsonline.com/story/index.aspx?id=665895
  4. Yep. Shut down Gallardo and our 2008 rotation should be set at Sheets, Gallardo, Villanueava, Suppan, and Cappy with Parra as the long man and Bush and Vargas in the bullpen or traded.
  5. I really like Anderson and when I found out he was from the Golf Channel, I knew I would like him because golf guys are generally intelligent and classy. I hope he's with the Brewers for a long time.
  6. Yes and I would argue that it has worked rather well in September. The Brewers are 12-7 so far in Sept. Give credit where credit is due.
  7. Melvin and Yost are way too stubborn to do such a thing. It really is sad too that their egos stop the moves.
  8. I have defended Ned Yost all year, but I have no defense for what happened last night. I still like Ned Yost as our manager and hopefully he learns from last night, but he did not put his team in the best position to win yesterday.
  9. Well now that he's had another injury, this thread could change it's course real fast if he can't get back out on the mound in 5 days.
  10. Yes, I realize that the Win/Loss record isn't relavant in grading a pitcher's year, and your disclaimer "When he's been healthy" isn't really a disclaimer because health is always a factor in determining whether a pitcher is having a down year, but I guess if you want to put it in your terms which in my opinion doesn't tell the real story, then to each is own. Also, Thank you, JimH5 for breaking it down game by game for Sheets. It's hard evidence that Sheets is having an on par year under my parameters, not Russ's.
  11. I thought we were talking about Sheets having a down year This Year? Now we are talking about future success? I'm very confused.
  12. So it's ok to ignore other stats that also factor into the equation just because they are more volitile? With that same logic, you probably think that Chris Capuano is having a good year because his K and BB rates are right on with his career numbers. That is laughable.
  13. I think the Brewers should offer him 5 years 70 million. It might seem a little low, but Sheets could play for a winning team, and also the same team that gave him a 4 year contract that he didn't quite live up to. He has a lot more to prove in Milwaukee.
  14. This topic was brought up in the chat room, and I got booted for pursuing the argument, but I'd like to see what your guy's take was on this. Sheets's strikeout numbers are down and his other secondary numbers are down, but he's pitching more to contact and his ERA isn't suffering too much. Yes, he's gotten lot of run support but that has been long overdue. I think the fact that Sheets is going to get about 26 starts this year makes it a successful one. 33 starts would be even better for next year. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif Is Sheets really having a down year? 15. It is ok to give valid criticism to Yost, but it's also ok to compliment him as well. As much as we've blamed him for losing games, he's won a lot of us as well. Case and Point: starting Joe Dillon in LF over Jenkins and bringing in Cordero in the 8th inning. There are many more, but those aren't the things you hear about. You hear about when he brings in guys with 0.46 ERA's vs righties to face a righty and plays the percentages, but in hindsight doesn't work. (see Greg Aquino) Yost has a logical reason for every move he makes and just because it doesn't work out, doesn't mean it was a bad move. Your criticism is valid, but Yost's reason for every move is valid as well.
  16. So it's Blind Luck when Yost wins and it's entirely his fault when they lose? Interesting.
  17. You certainly could have fooled me. Well that wasn't my intentions. I just remember a lot of people saying Weeks was a bust about 2 months ago and people were pretty down on him. Sending him to AAA was a great move to get him some AB's and I think we are going to see the good Rickie Weeks from here on out if he can stay healthy. I think he's going to be the leadoff man of the future for the Brewers even though we'd like to think of his as a future #3 hitter. But Mr. Braun might have something to say about that.
  18. My point is that Rickie Weeks is going to be a great player for this franchise and that his wrist was the reason for his bad 3/4 season. I'm not trying to call out Brewerfan.net. I'm just giving Rickie some props for playing great in August and September.
  19. Uh, you are putting words in my mouth. I said 80% of BF.net was down on him this year. I never said he would never play well again. Sheesh. Please don't do that. Was Molitor's primary position 2B??? If I remember correctly Jim Gantner played most of his time at 2B during Molitor's years. Hmmmm.
  20. I still do. His talent will probably make him the best 2B in Brewer history even though that's not saying much.
  21. About 80% of BF.Net. If you don't believe me, go check all the Rickie Weeks threads in the past 3 months.
  22. You guys were so down on Rickie Weeks this year, but we all knew he'd snap out of it. Weeks is seeing the ball well and if we get to the playoffs, he will have to keep playing like he is now. I think the wrist thing looks like it's over and the way he is drawing walks, I love him in the leadoff spot. Here's to a great last 20 some games from Weeks and a great career with the Crew! (added tag --1992)
  23. So what would our record have been this year if we had Tony LaRussa this year as our manager? I'm guessing it's plus/minus 3 games.
  24. Giving up less than 4 runs per game in the last 6 games hasn't hurt either.
  25. That's one way to put it. A couple good games in the playoffs gets you 42 million dollars though.
