  1. Vincent Catricala has told the Brewers that he intends to retire. Catricala was selected from the A's in the minor league phase of December's Rule 5 Draft. The 25-year-old once posted big power numbers as a farmhand with the Mariners, but he hit just .235/.292/.328 in 109 games between Double- and Triple-A last year. Source: Greg Johns on Twitter
  2. That really is a nice score!!! I wonder if Attanasio, Iceman or Hall tracksuit have ever ended up in a grab bag?
  3. Well, we already have a guy like that in our own organization named HUNTER MORRIS! Why pin our hopes to Davis at the expense of our minor league system when we have Morris? I really hope that Morris just absolutely tears it up in spring training, if he gets any at bats...
  4. I hope you are wrong, Garza is a far better pitcher than Suppan ever was. Outside of his world series with the Cardinals, Suppan was never that good to begin with. We overpaid for a guy with one good series under his belt. Garza has a successful track record, the injuries are what I'm concerned with mostly. This could go bad for a lot of reasons, but if he is injured for 1/2 to 3/4 of this contract, it could be a killer.
  5. I really do not want to trade Thornburg or Nelson, but I too fear that one will be gone (probably Thornburg) in a deal for a 1B. I just can't get on board with trading either when our minor leagues have no depth at the position. Trading one of those 2 just puts us in another "need" situation in the coming years. It seems we will always be needing to trade for SP...
  6. Bounce back? From what?
  7. I have been binge watching the Office season 8, and I have to say, this is a very funny season!!! There are so many things I did not catch watching it during the season it was on. Good stuff! I have completely changed my stance on the first season without Michael Scott. I hope I think the same about season 9, the final season too.
  8. Sounds like a good time, but I don't think I am going to make the trip... Have fun fellas!
  9. Thanks everyone! Feel free to keep adding though, too much information is not possible...
  10. Yup, exactly, with me, it's Molitor...
  11. @WTP: I get your point... I don't have an issue with Molitor being there, but I still hold a grudge. It's my own personal issue.
  12. I wonder if the Billy Butler idea has been visited by Melvin? Adding a guy like this to our roster turns us into instant contenders in my opinion...assuming the Garza deal goes through. I don't think that Garza or Butler alone will make us contenders, but adding both would surely be a step in the right direction.
  13. There are only so many numbers, retired numbers should be reserved for special players, not players who leave for more money. I liked Prince, but he will play more years out of a Brewer uniform than in one, so I don't think he is worthy of a retired number... Not a fan of Fingers being retired, but what's done is done... I honestly think that the only numbers the brewers should have retired are Yount and Aaron... I am on the fence about Braun, it all depends on what happens from here on out... If he rights the ship, stays clean, and plays in Milwaukee for another 8 seasons, puts up the numbers, he should probably be retired. We have no other players in our history that measure up to Hank and Robin, Braun has a chance, but we will have to wait and see how his situation plays out...
  14. Is it against some rule if another team sees what he agreed to with the Brewers, and before the deal is final, that team makes him a better offer?
  15. I really hope this does not mean that Melvin thinks Thornburg or Nelson are expendable...
  16. I don't like the signing if true because we are still sitting without a true #1 ACE type pitcher. Garza gives us three #2 - #3 type pitchers, probably more so on the #3 side. Garza at best is a #2 type in my opinion. The signing would probably make us more competitive, but he won't push us into contending for the division territory. If we lose Thornburg in a trade for a risky 1B option because we sign Garza, I REALLY disagree with this. Enter Mike Carp into the discussion, not just Ike Davis...
  17. Chris Cotillo of MLB Daily Dish reports that Yuniesky Betancourt is "less than a week away" from making a decision on where he'll sign. Cotillo adds that multiple teams have been interested, though it would be surprising if they were major league offers. Betancourt turns 32 later this month and batted just .212/.240/.355 in 409 plate appearances last year. Source: Chris Cotillo on Twitter
  18. Was there ever REALLY a doubt he would end up a Yankee? I thought it would be between the Dodgers and Yankees myself...
  19. To be honest, I'd rather go into the season with Halton and Morris, and dump the other 3 bums. If we are going to give up at one spot in the order, let the youngsters prove what they have, or don't have so we know a little something about them as future players... Keeping Halton and Morris on the bench in ST seems like a stupid move to me, especially when we already know what Overbay, Reynolds and Francisco bring to the table... I'm just so sick of the 1B situation on this team. The only positive is that it has to be better than last year........I think.
  20. This team is in a rebuilding phase and 4th is their ceiling in the division for the near future. The cold hard truth is that we simply don't have the farm system to gain ground on the Cardinals, Reds, or Pirates. They're already better, and their reinforcements are better. The Cubs also have a vastly superior farm system so it'll be tough to even stay out of the cellar. Barring some sort of bizarre circumstance where Braun plays like an MVP, Ramirez, Segura, Lucroy and Gomez all play like all-stars, Gallardo re-emerges and young starters like Thornburg and Peralta dominate, it's unlikely to expect us to contend this year. It's painful to me how much I agree with this. I think this perfectly sums up the Brewers' chances this season. I painfully agree. If we, by the grace of God, finish 3rd place or higher in our division, things had to go our way in a major, major way. I deal with the pain by not expecting much, and hopefully, they surprise all of us.
  21. Why wait until the 7th for the umps to initiate a review? Are there not calls that can cost a game in the first through 6th innings? Review ALL close plays and be done with it. I like the idea of a 5th umpire, with monitors in front of him, watching each call as the game unfolds and making the decision if need be.
  22. Am I missing something? Everyone is saying how cheap Reynolds is, are their contract numbers someplace that I missed?
  23. *Mark Reynolds has struck out 1276 times in 3418 at bats. (career) 37.33% *He has struck out more than 200 times 3 times in his career and holds the MLB record for strikeouts in a single season. (223 in 2009) He also is 4th all time in single season strike-outs with 211 (2010) *He has hit 30 or more HR in a single season 3 times. (2009, 2010, and 2011) *Batting average the last 4 seasons: 2010 .198 2011 .221 2012 .221 2013 .220 I sometimes wonder how guys like this continue to get jobs in MLB. We would rather trot this garbage out there all season long than to look at our youth and evaluate them and their futures with our organization. What is the difference between hitting Reynolds 8th, or Halton/Francisco/Morris? The other problem is that I can see our manager hitting Reynolds as high as 5 or 6, he is a grizzled veteran after all.
  24. Don't fool yourself, I think we have just signed our 2014 1B. SWING and a MISS!
