  1. No doubt Patrick. Rosenthal reports on Twitter that the Brewers are doing background work on Furcal. I don't think they're done by a long shot, but Lopez fills an immediate need and provides a decent upgrade to our bench once Weeks does come back. I have a hard time seeing Counsell sticking with the club the rest of the year, but it wouldn't surprise me if he did stay with the team based on the decisions made by this staff to this point.
  2. Solid move by Melvin. Without looking at stats, he seems like he should be an upgrade over Counsell and Wilson at the very least. He will be a nice player to have on the bench once Weeks comes back.
  3. Edwin Jackson and Mark Teahan have been traded to Toronto for Jason Frasor and prospect Zach Stewart. Word is Toronto will ship Jackson to St. Louis for Colby Rasmus. I really hope that goes through
  4. That's almost as bad as the Rocksies radio announcer saying yesterday that Kotsay had a very good arm in left field which is why a runner held at second.
  5. What are you talking about? Gamel has played in every game but one since he's been called up. I don't understand why you have now twice stated the Brewers should either play/use Gamel or send him down. They are playing him.
  6. I don't follow the minor leagues that closely, but I always associated Brantley with center field. However, I see that he only played 113 games in CF in the Brewers system as opposed to 203 in LF. So if the Brewers viewed him as a corner outfielder, it now makes much more sense in my mind why they included him in the Sabathia deal. By that point he would have already been blocked by Braun and Hart and the Brewers knew that Cain would be ready soon. But yeah, a Braun/Brantley/Hart OF would be horrific defensively.
  7. I agree with you especially in regards to LaPorta. But Brantley would look really nice in the Brewers line up right now. It's still a somewhat small sample, but in 135 AB's Brantley's line is .304/.383/.437/.820. He's got 4 HR, 18 RBI and has walked 17 times compared to his 15 K's. However, his current UZR is -1.9 and his current UZR/150 is -9.3. Compare that to Gomez current UZR of 7.3 and current UZR/150 of 35.9. So here's the question: would the additional runs scored with Brantley's bat and ability to get on base be negated by his defense? And whether it does or not, does Gomez currently bring more value to the Brewers with his putrid offense but elite defense?
  8. You have to think that the Brewers wouldn't add Rivera to the 40 man only to DFA him once someone comes off the DL. Although, they have made some head scratching roster moves so far this year, so I suppose it isn't out of the realm of possibility. Perhaps this means that they are starting to find some value in Boggs, and they want to keep him around, because they know if they outright him a 3rd time he's gone for good. Perhaps this also spells doom for Almonte once he comes off the DL. There's been little update on how he's responding from the concussion. Is there any chance they could place him on the 60 day DL?
  9. Johnson Creek isn't really a Nike Outlet anymore though. It is a Nike Clearance store. They have all of the products that no one wants to buy, like the neon colored stylish shoes, shoes that have other strange color schemes, shoes/cleats that are size 15 or higher, as well as apparel that has defects and the like. I used to love going to the Nike Outlet in Creek, now I really don't care to go anymore. They just don't have anything that interests me.
  10. Last year I bought two 59/50 size 7 1/2 hats (A white Brewer hat with the flag in the "M" and navy bill and an old school Toronto Blue Jay hat) and they both fit me perfectly. This year I wanted to replace my Brewer hat since it was all grimy and nasty, and I wanted a cleaner one to wear out and about. My old hat is black under the bill and it fits perfectly, always has. At the end of March, beginning of April I ordered a size 7 1/2 59/50 on eBay, and when I tried it on I could barely get it on my head, so I returned it. Right after that I ordered one from MLB shop. Same thing happened. Right after that I ordered one from Lid's and once again I could barely fit it on my head. So just last week I went into Hibbet Sports in Janesville and I wanted to try one on to see if it fit, and to make sure my head didn't grow that much that fast. This time it fit me perfectly. I then went back to Lids and tried one of theirs on and it fit perfectly too. I ended up buying it from Hibbet Sports. The only question I still have is if the hats are as deep in the crown as they have been in the past, which I like. But at least I can get it on my head comfortably. I would imagine that New Era made a mass production of hats but they all were undersized, or in your case over sized. It's pretty frustrating when you know how a hat fits and how it should fit, but it doesn't. I would simply suggest that you go to different places and try them on since it may vary from place to place. Or, simply wait for a while and see if a new shipment may be made more to size.
  11. I really think it's a matter of getting long term cost certainty so that they can start considering offers for Greinke and Marcum. In addition, this potentially gives them an idea of who they can go after in the off-season, such as a potential upgrade at SS. It makes me wonder if this is any indication of their desire to go after a big time SS next year. Way to early to know.
  12. You wonder if locking him up long term isn't a message to Fielder, showing him their commitment to winning? Not that I think he'll resign. But what I think is more likely is that the Brewers wanted to get some long term certainty with their biggest star so that they can ready offers for Greinke and Marcum. And in the process it shows both of them that they're serious about winning. EDIT: Deal is for 5 yrs. 105 according to Rosenthal.
  13. 5 year extension per Trenni and Brewers EDIT: If you follow "untuckem" on Facebook or Twitter they said this yesterday: "Um, did someone say 7-year extension for Braun. They did."
  14. I've always been pretty neutral about managers, but Roeneckie is really getting under my skin quick. I want to give him the benefit of the doubt because he just got on the job, but his insistence on starting Kotsay ahead of a superior player in Morgan makes me deeply question his capacity to manage a major league ball club. It was reported that during his interview with Doug Melvin he said "I don't have a lot of experience, but I've experienced a lot." You're right, Ron. You don't have a lot of experience, and that is certainly manifesting itself these first few weeks of the season.
  15. Just for the sake of clarification, you'd rather have Kottaras be the everyday C and not LuCroy?
  16. Might Tony Plush fill the void left in our hearts by Russell Branyan?
  17. I don't see Greinke and Hart's injuries as similar at all. One had a broken bone, the other has a muscle strain/tear. The broken bone is easier to determine the length of time a player will be out whereas a muscle strain/tear is more difficult to determine the length of time a player will be out. Greinke simply had to wait for the bone to heal until he could resume throwing and building up his arm strength. The time frame was pretty clear on that injury. Hart, however, has to be cautious in his approach so that he doesn't aggravate his injury. He's at the mercy of his muscle, and until it fully heals--which no one knows when that will be--he cannot resume full baseball activities. So you have one player with an injury that is fairly easy to project, as far as his timetable goes. You have another player with an injury that has an uncertain timetable. That's the likely cause of frustration among fans. We want Hart to be back, but no one knows when his muscle will be fully healed, not us, not Hart, not the doctors. These injuries really aren't similar. In fact, they're actually quite different.
  18. Gameday has frozen on me too. It's stuck on the 7th pitch "in play, run(s)." I tried refreshing and that hasn't even helped.
  19. I'm fairly certain this hasn't been mentioned yet. I know it's not acoustic, but it may be one of the best build up songs I've ever heard: Metallica - Enter Sandman
  20. Wow. That's a devastating blow for the Cardinals. Buster Olney is reporting that the Cards might go after Kevin Millwood. No matter how you slice it, that is a significant downgrade. And if Carpenter's year last year wasn't a fluke and actually the beginning of his decline, the Cards could be in big trouble, if they aren't already. On top of if, Nick Punto is out 2-3 months now. Thankfully we didn't sign him this off season.
  21. The Cubs off-season has a similar feeling to the Brewers last off-season, when the Brewers brought in some warm bodies thinking that they couldn't possibly be worse than the year before. I know Wellenmeyer and Looper are necessarily comparable to Wolf and Davis, but it kind of has that same feel.
  22. I agree, I find it hard to see how that sign could "light up." Here was my tweet to McCalvy: "Does this sign light up like the previous sign did? At first glance it doesn't appear to..." His response was "It does." Not trying to nitpick or anything. Just sharing what he told me. In any event, that scoreboard will be sweet.
