  1. EDIT: Nevermind, I was wrong.
  2. I didn't really care about either, but there is a significant difference between Braun's HR and Prince's. Prince hit a 430 ft no-doubter, Braun cleared the fence by about 10 feet. On top of that, Prince was brushed back twice before his hit. That said, I don't really care what someone does as long as it doesn't hurt the team on the field. If you stare at it, it better be gone. As long as Braun/Prince/whoever actually hits the home run and not off the wall, then I don't care. In fact, I kinda like it when they admire the ball a little bit.
  3. The rotation should have Yo, Manny, Suppan, and Bush. The 5th spot is the question mark. McClung was great as a 5 inning fill in. He far exceeded my expectations and I thank him for that, but he is not a long term solution at all. Our best chances are Villy (who I think fits better in relief) or an FA. I don't trust Dempster to be this good ever again in his life, and Derek Lowe is getting old. Sadly, those might be the only choices we have.
  4. Least favorite: 1. Mota 2. Yost 3. Hall 4. Durham 5. Hart I don't know what it is about Hart, but I feel he's the most overrated Brewer by far. He's kinda like a bad version of Ryan Braun, and he's getting a lot of "underrated" talk in the media. He's hailed as a guy who can hit anywhere in the order, but that's not true at all. He's a 5-6-7 hitter, probably best at 5 or 6. EDIT: Defensively, he's average at best for a RF, he bats for a decent average with almost no walks, and he slugs reasonably well. There are many media personalities and Brewer fans who think he's as good as Braun or Fielder. This simply isn't the case. Depending on what his contract is after this season, I may change my tune, but I have a strong feeling he's going to be overpaid in arbitration.
  5. 1) Braun 2) Villy 3) Sheets 4) Branyan 5) Yo Branyan would be #2 if he were just a little bit better. If he were, he would basically be Adam Dunn, who is probably my 2nd favorite non-Brewer.
  6. I can't deal with this series. It's the only matchups in the entire season where I get angry all the time. When Edmonds hit that GS, I had to stop myself from making a scene in my office. If we were playing ANY other team, I wouldn't care so much.
  7. "That's kinda true. It seems like whenever Hall has been a day-to-day starter this team has stunk on offense. Maybe it's time to get Branyon back in there? " But Bill Hall is clutch!
  8. Sheets has to one-up CC, so he's going to send each person who bought a ticket to any of the games this year a personalized, hand-written letter. Totally possible.
  9. My objective, rational side tells me that Rickie is a better hitter and a better fielder than Durham and there is little reason to think otherwise. Sitting at the game yesterday, my subjective, emotional side almost subjectively emotionaled me off the balcony of the terrace level.
  10. "If he continues on his hot streak teh rest of the year, he'll win, but it will certainly not be close." I second that notion. His line in the last 7 is .538/.548/1.192 with 5 HR, 10 RBI, and 3 BB in about 30 PAs. Extrapolate that to 56 games, he'll have about 69 HR and 161 RsBI with about a .370/.410/.800 line. I'd probably vote for that.
  11. Then the book has it right in that situation. There were only two options, Villanueva and Torres. I would have been fine with either. Whoever gives you the best chance to not give up a run is the person you want out there at the time. By the way, Gagne was shaky, but still only gave up one baserunner. I'm starting to get a bit more optimistic about him. I don't think I would put him in in a high leverage situation (baserunners on, less than 2 outs), but I'm not having an issue with giving him a late inning in a close ballgame.
  12. If you go by defense and offense, he's getting to be up there with Berkman and Pujols after this recent tear. If he holds his current line for the rest of the season and the Brewers win the NL Central, I think there's a good chance he wins it. Now, if you asked me if he's having the best season offensively+defensively in the NL, I would completely disagree, but I'm going by the way that the Morneau and Rollins voting press has voted in the past.
  13. So basically just the 11-0 Madison team?
  14. "hence Torres in the 9th" As a note, I would consider that to be unconventional managing because Torres is the closer, and we didn't have a lead. I thoroughly agree with that decision, it just didn't work out.
  15. I had a long and interesting conversation with the Cub fan next to me. He was a good guy. He went to Wisconsin for undergrad. He seemed to have a pretty good knowledge of his team. I still hate his guts while he's wearing that jersey, but he was a nice guy. There was a pretty big group of Cub fans in my section, and a group of Brewer fans. The Brewer fans were antagonizing the Cub fans about Fukudome, etc, and being completely over the top (and not to mention wrong about most of the Cubs' players). I think the Cub fans being so over the top for several years has rubbed off on the Brewer fans, and we've become what we hate.
  16. If I knew the behind-the-scenes skills necessary to the job, then I might have a good chance at being decent. If the only thing that matters are the decisions made in game, then I think I would be fine.
  17. I saw at least 4 or 5 game's highlights before the NYY-BOS highlights last night. That has to be a first.
  18. From what I perceive, you think we're judging the rest of the team on RBIs and Rs and not Braun, and in a sense we are. But as a TEAM, not individuals. Reread my last post. The point is that we aren't evaluating anyone on the team individually by RBIs or runs scored.
  19. NDOG, the point is you don't judge ANY of the individual players by those stats. You can judge a team by runs scored and runs against, but RBIs and Rs are not good stats. Really, any counting stat isn't a particularly great way to evaluate a player. It's better to look at rate stats and adjusted comparison stats (VoRP, WARP3, ERA+, OPS+).
  20. Anything above .500 would be a successful homestand in my opinion. 5-2 or 6-1 would be a great homestand. "It's part of the reason it had been so long since they'd had a sweep on the road." I don't believe that has anything to do with it. Even if you say we have a .666 chance of winning a game against a team (a very generous number), we still have a .333 chance of losing. We've gotten very lucky this year in one run games and in many other situations. It's the way the game is.
  21. You guys must value the KUGs a lot. Kendall has been pretty much what we expected on offense (not very good) while surprisingly effective defensively. I admit he's very gritty, but I'm not so sure how much credit you can give him for "developing" Bush and Parra.
  22. I think he's likely to be traded (and probably should be because his value will never ever be higher than it is) to either SF in a package for Matt Cain or to the Royals for whatever. We could maybe see something happen with TB depending on the development of some of their top tier prospects.
  23. "He called for the ball down low and the block, faked one way and swang his elbow around the other way, caught me right in the mouth. Well, blood was everywhere and three teeth were missing, and it wasn't worth it for a moment of needless stupidity." That makes you the bad guy in any way? He's a jerk for not taking it like a man. If all you did was dunk and then backpedal smiling, then he grossly overreacted by elbowing you in the face.
  24. I get really annoyed by anyone who slows down before they put on their turn signal. I can't just assume you're turning, so instead of being able to merge into the right lane and go around you at full speed (which is safer than merging at a lower speed), I now have to wait behind you and so do the several cars that are immediately behind me. Similarly, anyone who puts on a signal 100 ft before an intersection (many times with a light) and then proceeds to go through the intersection and turn a 100 ft past the main intersection. It's incredibly dangerous because anyone turning right on red should (rightly) think that you're turning at that intersection and may turn right into you. Anyone who starts to slow down for a yellow light while I'm turning left and controlling the intersection then proceeds to gun it when they decide to actually go through the intersection. I prefer aggressive drivers to passive/defensive drivers. Aggressive drivers are much more predictable.
  25. I think a decent amount of his horrid start this year was bad luck. Don't get me wrong, he didn't pitch great or even good, but he was not a 7 ERA pitcher. If he ends up just as a middle of the road reliever (3.8ish ERA) for the rest of the season, we're looking a lot better.
