  1. Barry Bonds as player manager. Clemens as pitching coach. Big Mac at 1st base, and Palmiero at 3rd base.
  2. Can we just put all the team stats into a computer, then judge them within any historical parameters, add in an variations and come out with a record while not actually playing any games. That way I wouldn't have to make a fool outta myself. All team records can be expressed as a range, and the range that skews highest in overall win totals takes the world series.
  3. I agee here. Fielder for pitching. Gamel or LaPorta to 1st base.
  4. I really don't like it. 1) It creates even more imbalance in the schedule 2) The DH is ridiculous. I mean it is a serious joke that almost wrecks the game. 3) AL players are usually more boring, fat guys who only hit homers (I know, I know..I'm gonna get killed for this one) 4) I think it takes away from the All-Star game
  5. I absolutely love this! Send a message. No matter how good you've been if you stop strikes you're going down.
  6. I can't see them winning any games in Boston. In fact it could be ugly, something like 28 to 12. But I think they'll perform much better in Pitts. than normal and they'll munch the Nationals. So I'm guessing 6-4.
  7. God, when the Brewers start throwing money around I really get nervous (I'm a victim of old school Brewer thinking). But this is a great deal for the money. I'm opposed to signing Hart though. I think that money needs to be put into pitching. Outfielders are easy to come by. I'd wait till next year to see if Gallardo is okay. I'd use some of the "Hart Money" to pay over slot for big time pitchers who slide in the upcoming draft I agree with those that say let Fielder brood. Boras needs a little pressure on him--Boras has let down plenty of his players and people need to see that. Besides I think Fielder could be dumped for a boatload of players and we could insert Gamel there (way better choice than LaPorta, keep him in the outfield).
  8. I liked bringing in Gagne. And, I think he looked good, especially to Jones. I know Jones eventually worked him for the walk, but I also know he threw two completely nasty change ups for stikes in that sequence. Once he starts spotting the change up he'll be okay. I also thought it was heartening that a day after a two inning performance he hit 94 on the gun.
  9. I usually don't think about Yost much. It's not my impression that he hurts or helps much, and so I stay away from most of the Yost arguments. However the last two games I got a little frustrated, and was genuinely baffled by his decision to pull Bush and CV. Both these guys have been struggling mightily, so he removes them in games they really have shown nicely. I think Bush had 92 pitches and CV had 83 by the end of the sixth. Everyone knows that if a starter can go seven innings you've got not only a productive game, but you help out your bullpen, not to say anything of the psychological lift for the troubled starter. If he really believes in his guys then let them go another inning. Let them complete the job as it were. have someone warmed up if it bugs you, but let them do what they're "suppoed" to do, so they have something to build on. Dumb.
  10. If Clement is a catcher, a real catcher, how could you not trade LaPorta for him.
  11. YEAH! RIGHTEOUS INDIGNATION FULFILLED! FEELING GOOD ABOUT THE WORLD AGAIN! THE KINGPIN OF EVIL CONQUERED! LETS GET THE REST OF THE BAD ONES NOW! OH FRABGEOUS DAY! KALOO KALAY!
  12. Hey, I'm not opposed to giving a guy a shot. Sometimes you catch lightning in a bottle ala Pods or Clark. If he works out for a year great! We'll worry about next year, next year.
  13. You know when I look at Lincecum it just scares me. i mean, I love the guy's production and his demeanor. But I can't remember even a single pitcher who throws like him and lasted ten years. I'm sure they're out there, but for the love of god I can't remember any. It just looks like one day his arm is going to go "all broken bat on him." He throws a slider, his arm separates at the shoulder, and the hitter has to skip outta the way. I'd target Cain as well.
  14. Can't deny those numbers boys, no sir. And I'll readily admit it's the Garrison kid who scares me in the deal. I'm just trying one of those "force of will" deals. As far as the "cabbage" reference we'll that's Mike Meyers impression of a circus carney. Of course he shivers while saying it.
  15. Monday night they will bring back Jim Slaton.
  16. I'm only claiming that one domino has fallen. I never trusted Inman (small hands, smells like cabbage) either, and I fully believe in Jack Z.'s abilities. We'll have to be patient no doubt, but I really think we're going to come out significant winners though.
  17. If they were able to remain healthy, I don't think so. The way I put it to a Cub fan friend of mine at the start of teh season, was that the team that was best able to avoid injury would win the division. I think Gallardo's injury has unfortantely put the division out of reach for the Brewers, unless the same thing were to happen to Zambrano, Lilly, or possibly Marmol. I really didn't ask the question to give anyone the needle. But given that the Brewers were coming off a barely over .500 year, and the inevitablity that during a long season it's more likely that a major injury or major non-performance are bound to happen than not happen, why did we have those expectations? I know I did. I thought there was a very good chance we'd be a playoff team. Certainly, I was more skeptical than most, but I'd also be the least surprised person on earth if the Crew had succeeded. While not exactly berating myself for believing that they could be good, I gotta admit it seems less than realistic now. Of course this could be nothing more than hindsight, but as the bumper sticker says POO HAPPENS. It's inevitable in a sport with an ungodly long season, and while the poo-rule might apply to every team in the majors, not too many small market teams have the resources to make adjustments.
  18. According to the Journal/Sentinel this morning. Wow! My proudest moment on this site. I predicted before the season he was a goner. I still think we only gave away one really good pitcher in the Linebrink deal, and if Jack hits with the extra picks it's gonna be a complete rip-off! Of course he could come back and be graet. But at this point I trust our evaluators. Maybe Stetter is better.
  19. Did anyone think that having expectations of a division winner was an overreaction? What about the overly optimistic crew that hangs out here--was that a bit premature?
  20. heck no. the closer by committee needs to stop now. Insert Gagne back now. He's the only viable candidate unless Luis Pena takes off.
  21. I'd bring up Weaver. See if he can ressurect his career. I'm all for taking shots here. Of the other two I'd take Naverson. In any case I really think the Brewers need a 3 or 4 inning reliever who can go once a week to save the bullpen. Could that be Bush? More like Villy? Maybe DiFelice since he's decided not to walk anyone anymore.
  22. I don't think you can overreact if the concerns have a legitimate basis. Since production is a legitimate cause to be concerned, I don't understand how this can be labelled overreacting. How many division winners in history have the identical record as the Brewers currently--coupled with the amount of teams ahead of the Brewers, plus at least one major injury to their rotation. What are the percentage of these teams that have won a playoff berth?
  23. When trying to figure out "objective" values I think you have to compare whoever you're looking at with someone on your own team. Otherwise there's no such thing as "objective" values because in trading both teams have an agenda. I'd say that Sheets has the value of Hart. And Fielder has the value of Braun, which oddly enough does nothing to establish his "objective" value.
