  1. had signed with the Brewers and did exactly what he's done to date and hit second in our line-up? Wouldn't he have been good enough in centerfield? Wouldn't he have solved some of our problems against righthaded pitchers? Wouldn't he have helped our OBP a ton? Wouldn't he have given Braun a lot more fastballs to hit? Wouldn't we be about 3 games ahead of the Cubbies, at least?
  2. I like being agressive with the right players, especially Rickie. He's got blazing speed and he'll hit you like a safety blindsiding a quarterback. But Prince? I don't get it. He's a base to base runner. I'm not confident that it's an automatic run on a single when Prince is at second. I think we'll see Prince get thrown out a few times in that situation. On another note, I thought Prince showed class and sportsmanship after getting thrown out. It's so unusual to see that nowadays. It was cool. Man, I love that guy--talented, a leader at a young age, etc. etc.
  3. I saw that Smoltz said that he'd return to the bullpen after his stint on the DL. Does anyone know if this is fulltime? If so, doesn't it appear that the Braves are kaput then. Not that they won't be a decent team, but that their chances of making the playoffs have all but been flushed, which also increases the likelihood that the Crew will at least nail down the wildcard.
  4. This is proof of the Podsednik rule: trade the older player as soon as he has a decent year. Clark and Turnbow should've been dealt immediately following their break out years. Melvin knows better but for some strange reason didn't follow up. It costs money to make such mistakes, and more importantly it cost production and losses. On the other hand, I'm rooting for Turnblow to comeback and beat us ala Wes Helms. Anyone who has to put up with that much stick deserves some decent Karma down the road.
  5. Okay, it's official now. I'd rather have Braun than Tulo.
  6. At this point I can't believe anyone would claim him. I feel for the guy. I even supported him thinking he'd go on one of his runs and then they'd trade him for something. But right now I think he need to be DFAed for his sake and the Brewers.
  7. Florida has too much pitching for us. We never play well in Pittsburgh. Tony owns Ned despite how truly pathetic the Cards are. Boston? Geez how lucky can we get. 15 wins which in reality is pretty good. The Crew will be in 2nd place and be ready for their launch in June and July when they tear it up and put the Cubbies behind them.
  8. Just to show my ignorance: Why is this true? Weren't there plenty of major leaguers in by gone days who had miniscule SLG %s and were still viable big time players? I'm thinking about guys like Maury Wills, etc. Thanks for any explanation.
  9. Holy Moly. I was just looking over this guy's last 138 games. 75 walks and only 54 strike outs? Geesh, how often does this happen in the minors; it's gotta be almost non-existent in the majors (though I'm totally guessing here). Plus 42 steals and 11 caught stealing. Is he a serious threat to be the Brewer's lead-off man of the future? Is there anyway he can be a centerfielder? 75 walks and only 54 strike outs--that's stupid good for a 20 year old, right?
  10. My impression has always been, and please feel free to correct me, that AA is where most of the top prospects are. That AAA is more of a holding tank for back ups and such. If that's true, might not the competition be better at AA, and therefore more valuable for his progress. On the other hand, I really don't want to see him coming up until Fielder or Hart are gone as there's no where to play him. Hart is no kind of centerfielder in my book, although I realize there is debate on that matter.
  11. Interesting argument: I don't think we can deny that baseball is a culture whereby managers try to get their starters wins and their closers saves. Now there are other reasons to pull pitchers or bring them in, chiefly performance, but that isn't the only reason either. Pinch hitters, injuries, pitch counts, bullpen availability, etc. My point is the list is long and sometimes complex. I'm sure that Yost kept Sheets in the game last night despite the seven walks for more than one reason. So what I'm saying is that both sides of this argument seem valid and are not mutually exclusive. Intelligent speculation is hopefully what we do around here--it good, and right, and natural.
  12. I'd essentially agree with this. While I didn't mind sending Bush down (he simply isn't adequate for a contending team as a starter) this is a team that needs a quality long reliever. I love the 3 or 4 inning save, and I'm confident that Bush could do this job when the Crew has a 4 run or more lead. That would save the bullpen, oh I don't know, I'm guessing five or six times a year. In effect giving them an off day. I really would have DFAed Turnblow and committed to Bush in this role.
  13. That is priceless. good line.
  14. The thing I like about Cameron is how calm he is at bat. He's so relaxed. Braun could learn something from his approach I think.
  15. I love Gamel. I really think he's gonna eventually have the "wow" factor in the bigs. I can see LaPorta being a .250 40 homer guy, but I think Gamel can be a .290 30 homer guy. He'll be solid on the base paths; he's a student of the game it appears. I think I'm developing a man crush.
  16. I'll be danged if I can understand that one either.
  17. If he was good enough he would've stayed. He's obviously on the downside. I'm not a stat guy, but I bet his stats have gotten worse the last three years. Would we be afraid of him if he was on the Cubs? And if we were, what would that say about our team?
  18. Maybe our hitters are regresing to the norm and aren't that good.
  19. Because people like us make judgements against them. It's human nature. Does anyone realize what Turnbow is gonna do to the Crew one of these days. We'll celebrate and get drunk outta happiness when we kick his sorry bum to the curb, but it'll cost us someday. It's kinda cool don't you think?
  20. I like the move because it gives us a clearer picture of the the general pitching situation in Milwaukee. We all know that Turnbow and McClung aren't any good, but the delusion that Bush was any thing but a 6th or 7th starter in a five man rotation, well... (what do we call that kind of pitcher? Has he regressed to a AAAA ball player?).
  21. Prince is the winner with that mini-fro lampchop sideburns/moustache combo. Classic early 70s! He could be on the Mod Squad!
  22. I believe I said that next to Haren this was the best signing of the off-season. Don't like it one bit.
  23. Bok-bok-bok: Chicken!
  24. Gagne. Somehow we gotta make sure he's a t least a type B free agent.
  25. Anyone who isn't thinking that the World Series is attainable, anyone who lacks enthusiasm, anyone who doesn't believe in his teammates has no place on my team.
