  1. Maybe this is just a bunch of cliches, but when I see them play they just impress the heck out of me with their team approach, the never say die attitude, the manager’s willingness to try what ever it takes, the one game at a time mentality. These guys are just a bunch of fun. Let’s keep it brewing!
  2. I must say that early on I’m most pleased that my prediction for the first month has been totally wrong. I thought there was a chance we’d get swamped, and we’ve admirably avoided that. I’m worried however about the pitching and still fear the toll it might take. Each of those young guys deserves to start, and each of those young guys I believe will develop into a quality starter. Best case scenario, I think we could be looking at three #2 starters which would be just outstanding. But having said that it could take all three this whole season to show consistency and marked improvement. And if true that’s gonna reek havoc with our run differential and put extra pressure on the pen. There’s no way that Hader can save 81 games. So I’m just hoping one of them clicks early (my guess is Woodruff) and we start to see some of the starters go 6 to 7 innings once or twice a week. I like what I’ve seen from Zach and Chacin so far. Just crossing my fingers.
  3. Defense looks shaky tonight. Goldie lays down a marker. Man oh man this is a heck of a division.
  4. Let’s hope they don’t overreact and sign Kimbrel to big money.
  5. Cards pitching in general scares me and the reason I’m picking them for division winners, but it’s early in the season and pitching might have more variance in results, so now might be the best chance we have for hurting them. I saw the beginning of the season as a bloodbath for the Crew, but maybe the opposite might be true. Here’s crossing fingers. My biggest hope for this evening, win or lose, is seeing Peralta tie Chacin for lead in home runs hit.
  6. Man oh man that opening day catch by Lo Cain will be a legend in Brew Crew lore. Beyond exciting.
  7. Are you sure your not a cards fan? Be honest. I think you also want baseball to strike. Wouldn’t affect you much, if memory serves me right. If not for the Yankees the Cards, those smug so and sos, are my most despised franchise in any sport. If my wife was a Cards fan I’d divorce her. If my kid was a Cards fan he’d be out of the will. If my boss was a Cards fan I’d quit my job of 35 years.
  8. Indians way over rated even in that abysmal division. How did they know we signed Kimbrel? Otherwise... I meant run differential wise. Although I do think the Twinkies have a shot at them.
  9. Good win against our main rivals #1 pitcher. Only thing that bothered me was Aguilar not trying to take the walk twice. Bad omen early. Nader should be okay Saturday. Tomorrow’s Knebel decision should be interesting.
  10. I like picking up Wilson. Just keep on adding arms, find out who’s hot that year, and ride them. Next year just repeat.
  11. Record 85–77 Playoffs No All Star Hader, Yelich Offensive player Yelich Starter Chacin Reliever Hader Most surprising Arcia Most disappointing Huira Bold prediction: Brewers get crushed the 1st month of the season by Cards and Dodgers, spending the rest of the year playing solid, entertaining baseball that gives us hope next year Hope for the future: Peralta, Burnes, and Woodruff keep their collective heads above water Story of the year: injuries injuries injuries Cain misses most of the season, Nelson moves forward, gets injuries again, Knebel lost season, Jeffress basically a lost season, Thames less than 30 games, Braun plays less than 81 games, etc. Comeback player: Albers Personally I’m not discouraged by this. I think it’s more a matter of this is the kind of stuff that happens in baseball. The organization is on the right path and I’d expect he following year to be more competitive. Crazy prediction: so much parity in the NL that only one team wins 90 games (not gonna happen)
  12. I just think with the wide range of possible outcomes with this pitching staff we need to hold on to every possible starter unless we trade for an obvious upgrade.
  13. DH: it was inevitable. The rule is now on par with death and taxes, two other things I’m against. Again really trying to stick it to small market teams. 3 batter minimum: trying to get runs on the board. 12 pitchers maximum: this one offends me. It is blantantly anti-small market. It is simply an attempt to get super expensive 7-8 inning pitchers to dominate teams. Problem is only a few teams can afford a full complement of these kinds of players. The Brewers better win the WS quick because they won’t be smelling the playoffs for, well, forever. Boston, NY teams, Dodgers, etc. just gotta be loving this. No more of those pesky innovative teams to worry about. This rule is beyond bull. 26 roster spots: all for it One trade deadline: all for it Baseball games are going be longer, pitchers are going to get hurt more often. These changes remind of Bill France, the head of NASCAR, when he said in front of a congressional committee, “we’re not a sport, we’re entertainment.” Pitching clock: read somewhere that an arm throwing a baseball at 90 mph needs more than 20 seconds to recover. Hope that’s true. I hope arms just go exploding everywhere and then we’ll get what this nitwit commish really wants—softball.
  14. The pitching staff scares me. I really do think it comes down to 1) at least two of Woodruff, Peralta, and Burnes need to work out and taking regular turns 2) Davies staying healthy and regaining form 3) Chacin be 2018 Chacin I’m not counting on Nelson. I’m guessing he’s strictly a spot starter and sometime long reliever. I’m guessing he gets 80 innings or less this year, that’s a pure guess of course. Andersen looks scary. He might be a lost cause on a team that has aspirations. The bullpen...well, I just can’t imagine a repeat performance they were so awesome. There’s gotta be some regression. Jeremy is worrisome. I do think Claudio will be useful, but how long will Knebel be ineffective this year until he finds himself. And who is going take his place when it happens. Speculation? Naturally, but it seems so plausible. Now if the rotation works out and the big three in the pen are dominant then the Cards and Cubs have something to worry about.
  15. I’m really opposed to the clock until a thorough study has been made on the effect of the clock on pitchers’ arm/elbow/shoulder. It seems I read somewhere (just can’t remember where) that the arm needs more than 20 seconds to recover after each pitch. I’ve always been for the 26 man roster but I think it should be restricted to a 3rd catcher. I say that because a 25 man roster with just two catchers are in reality a 24 man roster. I think they’re being stingy with the 28 expanded roster. I’d like to see 29 or 30. That way theoretically you can add one infielder, one outfielder, and one pitcher. I always loved the expanded rosters for teams out of the hunt. It’s great seeing the kids play when it doesn’t matter. I’ve got something a little extra as an incentive when plunking my money down for a late season game. 3hitter minimum? God no. The game needs all the strategy it can get, not the restriction on strategies. The 15 day fake hurt list will hurt the Brewers.
  16. Yeah, I’d love to see them in a skimpy little thing!
  17. I’d like MLB to do what they do in the European football leagues. Come out with a new outfit design every year. It’s always fun, an anticipatory event that gets everyone’s attention. Over the years some of the better ones become coveted. Plus it’s an interesting way to Mark time—old school vs. new school kinda thing. Jersey/logo design should be fun and exciting.
  18. I still think the best solution is to find out how much the players are currently receiving overall. For argument’s sake let’s say it’s 50% of total revenues. Give them, say, 10% more. I just don’t get why the salaries should be determined by the teams? Just because that’s the way it is everywhere else? Just let the players determine what each other should make. Let them establish the criteria, that seems more than fair. Let them determine value, they’re intelligent human beings. They have expert advisors. There’s no reason for the animosity between the two sides. This will let both sides know e xactly how much money there is and how much they’ll have for operational expenses, insurances, etc. The sides do not have to keep doing this to each other. Both sides need to man up, stop acting childishly, and start to help one another. Where there’s plenty of money to make sure everyone does well it’s better to cooperate than compete against each other. Let the competition on the field be the thing.
  19. I thought Machado was the better of the two based mostly on defense and positional superiority. It seems as if Harper is the riskier proposition given recent production. In any case I hope both give their respective teams reason to regret their decision.
  20. Wow. Glad to see some of you guys are completely unimpressed with the Reds additions. I thought they were pretty awful. I just didn’t have the guts to go with my instincts. I really hope theyre Under .500. I do feel sorry for Puig though. I think the fan base is gonna eat him up.
  21. I'm curious... Does this qualify as an intersting story? Yeah I think so. I can’t remember the Brewers trying something this long term with an uninjured player before. He’s no rehabbing,he’s not testing out something previous like shoulder injury or some such thing. It’s seems like they’re attacking the whole body, rebuilding it if you will. That is interesting.
  22. Keep him Turbo. He’s like Giannis attacking the rim against a 6 foot 3 inch shooting guard. The probability is that it’s gonna end in a slam dunk. I really haven’t heard minor league experts talk with this much certainty in quite awhile.
  23. I really like the Brewers approach with him. It’s Stearns and his team thinking outside the box. Taking a long term flyer on an interesting player. I like the medical/science based strategy and hope it’s successful enough to help others with extensive injury histories.
  24. Like some I hope for the best but expect the worst. What I really want to know though is, what is the track record of similar injuries? Given the extensive nature of the damage I remain doubtful; I’d be overly cautious and severely limit innings and days between starts. Maybe the injury makes him a better candidate for the bullpen? Could he pitch a single three inning stint once a week? Would this justify him taking up a roster spot? So many questions that only Jimmy’s shoulder can answer. Crossing my fingers.
  25. So you'd welcome a one-year strike, but god forbid they bring the DH to the NL? Yeah, given the choice between something that happens continuously and something nearly unique I’d always take the later. I also won’t mind the strike because baseball is everywhere. Minors, NWL, little league, college. I like them all. I’ve been a Chinooks season ticket holder for several years now and I wouldn’t feel that deprived. I’d also like to hear what others say about a strike—Effectively Wild, Infinite Inning, bloggers, journalists, historians. It would be a summer to remember.
