  1. I think the 2024 picks have more to do with trading Rodgers after 6/1 than anything. If they trade him before 6/1 that's an additional $9M that they have to clear on top of the already $17M that they are over the cap.
  2. There was no chance of Adams coming back if Rodgers wasn't coming back. They had to get Rodgers in the fold first to have any chance of retaining Adams.
  3. There's an old saying in marketing - "predictability is the enemy of engagement". Once the Rumble winners got a title shot at Wrestlemania that meant that only about 4-5 guys had a realistic shot of winning it. It wasn't so much retired wrestlers, but back in the day the excitement was a surprise entrant that they poached from WCW or another federation. If you want to make a little bit of money (literally meaning "little"), always bet on the Rumble favorite in Vegas the morning of the event. That's always who wins it.
  4. I don't think I've seen your username before. Is that a Cheech & Chong reference?
  5. His first tenure with the Brewers ended with the trade that brought Rick Manning to Milwaukee, but he made a brief return in his final season in 1986. Au contraire mon ami - that was Gorman's second tenure with MKE. He was traded to TEX after the 1977 season and then purchased back in Feb of 1978.
  6. I do. Dude married former Playboy Playmate Lisa Dergan, who was one of my absolute crushes in the 90's. Hated him for that at the time, but that was just love disguised as jealousy. Arguably his biggest accomplishment. Google "Lisa Dergan Playboy" and check Images if you don't remember...
  7. Emergency dental work. Cracked a tooth on what was likely a small piece of bone in a meatball Friday evening. Wasn't sure, waited a while to see if it was just the nerve needing to calm down, but it got worse. Dentist confirmed this morning. Off to the endodontist for a root canal. What's bugging me is their staff. I'm coming in for an emergency root canal, and the staff asks me, "How's your day going?" If I'm coming in for an emergency root canal, how the hell do you think my day is going??
  8. I could see Seattle ($31M in cap space), but not TB - they're in cap hell ($55M over the cap right now, and almost all of their top salary guys have more dead cap than 2023 salary). Baltimore ($33M cap space) and the Giants ($45M in cap space) are options that also have QBs that are free agents.
  9. They've lost five of six. They've also played five of the last six on the road. Not sure why the Big Ten allowed that in a schedule. Most teams are thin. Between the portal and one-and-done for the NBA, few teams have anyone other than true freshmen coming off of the bench. The portal is a crap shoot - nobody wants to come off of the bench unless it's a team with a legit shot at the final four. If most teams ranked 15-25 a few weeks ago lost a starter for a stretch when they played most of their games on the road, they wouldn't be ranked any longer either.
  10. You think that Rodgers and his ego don't believe that they can beat anybody?
  11. I think the Raiders make a perfect trade partner. They have $20M in cap room, and if they release Carr they'll free up another $30M. The key with Rodgers is a post-6/1 trade, and the Raiders have Chandler Jones who could free up another $17M with a post-6/1 trade. That could clear enough space to move Rodgers and Bakhtiari. A post-6/1 trade of Bakh would free up $17M in cap space for 2023. The Raiders already have Adams, and can probably have enough to sign more of Rodgers buddies. Not sure how to value Jones - last year was a down year, but it was his first down year (other than when he was injured in 2020) and his 2023 salary and roster bonus are guaranteed. He could provide depth at edge rusher if not start across from Smith. His salary guarantee might make it hard to move him in a trade, but the Pack could get extra picks from the Raiders for taking him and his salary off their hands. That would mean the Packers would get picks for Rodgers, Bakh, and for taking Jones. I could see that as being 2-3 firsts and seconds and a couple later round picks, with the assumption that it's 2024/2025 picks because of the post-6/1 trade, the assumption that they'll be picks later in the rounds because of winning with Rodgers/Bakh, and the devaluing of draft picks in future years.
  12. IIRC, they said that Northwestern was #1 in the nation in defending the 2-point area or something to that effect. They certainly showed it, and the only question is if they make their shots.
  13. https://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/35512412/arte-moreno-maintain-ownership-angels-exploring-sale For all the money he's spent, they've been to the playoffs once since 2009, losing in the ALDS.
  14. What they do is get people to come into their doctor's office to talk about their condition. Many people either don't talk to their doctor about their conditions or don't even come in to see a doctor at all. People don't talk about conditions for several reasons including refusing to admit something is wrong, feeling embarrassed about it, or not knowing/believing that there are things that can treat their condition effectively. You're seeing a lot of commercials for skin conditions (psoriasis, eczema) because for a long time there weren't any medications that did a good job of treating them - not very effective (60-75% skin clearance vs. 90%+ clearance now), or less than ideal treatment regimens (weekly injections where now there are medications that only need to be injected once every three months, or previously only an injectable medication where now there are oral tablet medications), or nothing to treat it at all (eczema). Patients were told to only expect so much from their mediocre medication and after taking it for a while they tend to normalize the results/regimen and think they are doing "OK" because that's what they were told to expect. Doctors tend to be the "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" and often don't bring up new medications because they don't want to take the time to explain them or deal with the hassle of trying to get insurance authorization. The skin condition commercials have that imagery because they show people showing off their skin outside where others can see them, something that they've been embarrassed to do (note that it's always warm and they are wearing bathing suits, tank tops, shorts, etc.). The FDA requires that they mention any side effect that occurs more often than placebo, even if it is rare and not necessarily proven to be caused by that drug (could be sample size error, another medication they are taking, etc). You'd be surprised how many people commit suicide because of embarrassing medical conditions, or just withdraw from socializing. In case you don't remember junior high school and high school, kids can be cruel to other kids who are different. Having a little bit of diarrhea pales in comparison to the effects on their mental health. (I used to work for a company that makes some of these dermatology medications you see on TV. I did the concept testing with patients for one of those commercials.)
  15. They lost three of their top four based on PPG. Elliott is starting at Pitt and averaging over 10ppg, 39% from 3-point.
  16. I am interested - that gives me a chance to go to the game
  17. It was an impressive season, but IMO was outdone two years later by LaVel Freeman who slashed .395/.467/.627 in 602 plate appearances in that same hitter-friendly El Paso stadium. Since the modern era of the Minor Leagues began in 1963, just one batting qualifier in an affiliated full-season league has hit .400. For that effort, Freeman was given all of three plate appearances in the majors. You know, because they had to give plate appearances to Mike Felder and his .623 career OPS (73 OPS+). Excluding Dudley Field, while it was short-season rookie ball, in 1997 Jake Kraus slashed .390/.487/.610 with 38 BB and 15K(!) in 300 plate appearances split between Ogden and Helena.
  18. Fernando Vina will always be known for stealing my friend's girlfriend. My friend was on the baseball team at UWM and was driving a 1979 Ford Fairmont. Vina was on the Brewers making six figures. Early life lesson on how (most) women go for fame and money.
  19. I don't think they had the scholarships available those years for more than one. They took five in 2020 and four in 2021 plus two transfers with >1 year of eligibility - that's 11 of 13 scholarships. Neath being injured also hurts the depth. Hodges hasn't seen game action in two years - he redshirted last year and opted out of his 2020 senior year due to COVID.
  20. Wahl was a little bit rusty the first half... Hepburn needs to be more aggressive. I've seen at least 3-4 possessions the last two games where he had a clear path to the basket from the perimeter and he didn't drive to the rim. Seemed afraid, not sure if it is getting blocked or not knowing how to use his body to shield defenders from behind, but he has to attack the basket in those situations.
  21. Plus reuniting with Davante Adams. No need for any time to get on the same page, those two can look at each other and know exactly what the other is thinking. Package Bakh in that trade too if LVR has the cap room.
  22. One of Fickell or Leonhard said exactly this (or both of them - I think it was Leonhard, and Fickell just said that he doesn't like the portal and prefers to develop). As for Dawson Garcia, he went back home to Minnesota because of family medical issues. His family got hit hard by COVID and several family members passed away. At the time of his transfer, his father had almost passed away and his grandmother was in the ICU. He transferred to UNC after Wojo was fired. I know there are other examples - I believe JT Daniels and Kedon Slovis are the examples you are looking for.
  23. There are plenty of clouds for you to yell at, though. The NCAA is re-evaluating the policies for undergraduate transfers. Saw a tweet about that on another forum a couple of weeks ago.
  24. The three items that I ordered on Monday arrived on Friday on three different trucks - one early afternoon, one late afternoon, one mid-evening. There are two Amazon trucks on the street in front of my place right now.
  25. I interpreted this question to be who would be the biggest upgrade over who the Brewers currently have at that position. For that reason I went with Mike Schmidt as 3B is arguably the Brewers weakest position. Historic great both offensively and defensively at the position and strong against both LHP (career .990 OPS) and RHP (career .880 OPS). Arguably the biggest upgrade in terms of total WAR the Brewers would have in the starting lineup. Allows Urias to platoon at 2B and add value at that position too. Strong consideration to Willie Mays, but not quite as big of an upgrade over what I believe Frelick can produce and I think his speed is a tad overrated - career 338 SBs to 103 CS isn't a good ratio. Also, OFs rarely are able to move to the infield except for 1B, so displacing one of the current OFs moves a good player to the bench and doesn't add as much value as adding a 3B. Babe Ruth's WAR would get killed by defensive metrics. (A bit sarcastic, but probably true.)
