  1. Elzy has set an official visit with UW. He had previously committed to and then decommitted from Cincinnati.
  2. It's been rumored that Herbig is going pro. He was one of the players who came to Fickell's press conference; highly unlikely that he transfers anywhere, it's either pros or back to UW but likely the former. Wolf walked with the seniors on Senior Day, so it is likely that he isn't back.
  3. The portal opens up tomorrow for non-grad-transfers. If there are particular places that he wants to go (and don't kid yourself, there is major tampering going on and has been with all of UW's players since Chryst was fired so he may have a couple of destinations already in mind) he doesn't want that school to commit to another player while he goes and plays in a meaningless bowl game. Better to ensure you get to go where you want to go. This is likely going to mean a step back in QB play next year barring a transfer in. Burkett going 4-5 against New Mexico State (and poorly underthrowing Engram on the one long pass) is nothing to get excited about.
  4. Those articles were all speculation. Back in 2020 after he passed on the Packers DC job he said, "I think a lot of people have ideas about what my career is going to be and what they want it to be. The beauty of my career is that nobody needs to know or care. I love Madison." He's supposedly turned down opportunities to interview for other high-profile HC jobs. He loves Madison, his family loves Madison, and he made $10M in his career as a player so he doesn't need to chase a big paycheck. Leonhard was initially their top choice, but during his interview when he was asked what his plan was Mac wasn't sold. Fickell was interested but hadn't committed yet, they were ok with Leonhard but wanted Fickell and they were under pressure to have a coach in place with the transfer portal opening coming up quickly. Their lawyers started preparing the contract for Leonhard... and then Fickell called and said yes.
  5. I'm not forgetting anything. I'm simply saying that the Brewers are much more likely to find two more TOR-type starters by trading Burnes and Woodruff like the White Sox did with Sale and Quintana than letting Burnes and Woodruff ride out to a QO and a comp pick, like you suggested, and the White Sox payroll limit has nothing to do with that.
  6. I've said this before, but I look back at the 2016 White Sox. They parlayed Sale and Quintana into Dylan Cease, Michael Kopech, Eloy Jiminez, and Yoan Moncada. Burnes and Woodruff can be replaced. It's not impossible. Going with a couple of comp picks is the likely much bigger loss.
  7. Alabama didn't play Georgia. Alabama is SEC West and UGA is SEC East and they skipped each other this year. Alabama's losses were to Tennessee and LSU.
  8. If he's watching Essegian he'll see that if he's good enough he'll get an opportunity to show it right away at UW.
  9. but the offense isn't clean of this either I give the offense a pass because they've been playing short-staffed at receiver running out a lot of rookies, have had no clue week to week who will be available at tackle, and Rodgers has been playing with a broken thumb. Once Bakh got back to playing full games and Jenkins was back at guard the line has played much better and the offense as a whole the last couple of weeks has been playing much better.
  10. Well, they do have three young pitchers with six years of control now that they can dangle in a trade... (*ducks and runs for cover*)
  11. If you want to clean house after three years of 13 regular season wins... you're going to be cleaning house every other season.
  12. Bakh - no reason for the Packers to make a decision on him until next August. Agree that the upside of a healthy Bakh far outweighs $5.9M in cap savings by cutting him, but if they do, it would be better to do it in August so that the cap hit can be spread over two seasons. If they do release him after 6/1, the cap hit is only $11.6M in 2023.
  13. Slightly related, but one of the biggest reasons why the 2023 recruiting class for UW is looking the way it does is because 2023 is a very weak year for Wisconsin high school football talent. Nate White is the only guy UW offered and is probably going to be the only in-state player to go to a P-5 school.
  14. Most of the guys who decommitted did so because they got offers from better destinations (Michigan, Notre Dame). That being said, Kekahuna was at the Badgers game yesterday. Hiring Fickell might bring some of the WR decommits back in the fold.
  15. Small sample, but Love looks worlds better than he did last year. Looks like it's finally starting to click for him.
  16. There might be a certain DC who they wanted to hire looking for a job after today...
  17. Oh, Fickell showed interest. To the point that his wife visited Madison a few weeks ago to check it out. Flew into Chicago and then was driven up to Madison so as to not be noticed.
  18. From a scheme standpoint, this is what I'm most excited about because the weakness of Leonhard's scheme has been defending the 11 personnel scheme. The 2-4-5 that they've used has not worked against OSU or Minnesota. The 3-3-5 is a much better matchup at controlling the LOS while still having the DBs to defend 3 WR, and UW will have better DL than Cinci to be able to effectively use 3 DL. I think the 4-2-5 is best, but UW doesn't have the DEs on the roster right now for the 4-2-5 unless Witt's foot miraculously heals and Thompson drops a little weight to become more agile. As for the big nickel, they have plenty of guys who can do that - Austin Brown, Preston Zachman (who was initially recruited at LB), Cade Yacamelli, Hunter Wohler (6'2", 210), Jake Ratzlaff, and Aiden Vaughan.
  19. The Packers have claimed Justin Hollins off of waivers. Forgot about this one too: UDFAs (* indicates priority or possible late round pick): Micah Abernathy, S, Tennessee* Not a bad year. Struggled a bit on days 1-2 but did pretty well with the UDFAs - Conway, Bolton, Abernathy, and Ramsey.
  20. Technicality, it's not "official" yet. No formal announcement has been made and likely won't until after the Board of Regents meets at 4pm. I don't doubt it, just think we can leave out the "official" part of the thread title until then. It was thought as soon as 24 hours ago that Leonhard was "official".
  21. Fickell turned down ND a year ago. Pure speculation, but he coached at OSU, left OSU to go to Cincinnati (probably could have gotten bigger jobs had he waited a little), and then turned down ND a year ago... I wonder if he saw the poop-show that being a HC at a high-pressure school like OSU or ND can be (remember, Meyer stepped down for health reasons) and doesn't want to be at one of those high-pressure schools.
  22. No. That may have been a few of the sprinkles on the turd cupcake, but the entirety of the Iowa and Minnesota games and the first three quarters of the Nebraska game were what likely caused it.
  23. What they don't need is another Gary Anderson situation where a guy comes in from the outside and then finds out that the University isn't willing to admit the players that he wants to bring in.
