  1. Interesting that only two of the top 30 on MLB's list are pitchers, and they are from Cuba and South Korea. Is pitching that far behind in Latin America? Or is it because it takes so long to develop them from the age of 16/17 that they either have to add them to the 40-man before they're ready for the majors or risk losing them in the Rule 5? Given the Brewers inroads in Venezuela, any chance they are in on either of the two catchers, Salas or Duno?
  2. And the beauty of it is that there is no consensus franchise #1 QB, much less top 2-3 QBs, that don't have question marks that a team would want to trade up for. I don't think that there's anyone who a team would give up a boatload of draft capital for to pick #1. Arizona and the Rams already made a significant investment at QB and I don't know that any of the top 3 QBs (Young, Stroud, Levis) are better than what the Lions already have. Houston, Seattle, and Indy can just sit there and see who falls to them, and if a team below those wants a QB they can trade up to the Lions' or Arizona's spot.
  3. Thank you, Brock. As someone who's been a part of this racket for a long time, it pains me to not see some of the long-time posters here. There is one more thing to add that is related, and that is this - YOU DON'T HAVE TO HAVE THE LAST WORD. Make your point, state your data/evidence to support your case, and then MOVE ON. If someone disagrees with you and you disagree with their point, don't respond unless you have additional data/evidence that you have not presented yet to support your stance or refute their point. DO NOT KEEP SAYING THE SAME THING OVER AND OVER. You don't have to win. The Brewers don't have to win. Nor do the Packers, Badgers, Bucks, or any other teams we talk about here. Life will go on, the sun will rise in the morning, and we've made it this far in life without the Brewers winning a World Series. Cubs fans waited over 100 years for a World Championship (and it took a lucky rain delay to do that) - we've still got those punks by 50 years. If there was a level playing field, teams would win a World Championship only once every 30 years. And we all know there isn't a level playing field in baseball. Finally, if you find yourself getting set off easily, feeling like the game is over as soon as one thing goes wrong, etc., please seek out emotional support/counseling. I'm not being sarcastic or criticizing anyone about that. Be cognizant of your mental health, as your mental health can affect others. GO BREWERS!
  4. I'd love to see someone reverse-engineer Helton's stats to simulate him playing for another NL team replacing his home stats with 1/15th weighting of his home stats and 14/15th weighting of his road stats and what that would mean in terms of WAR. I get that OPS+ does that to a certain extent, but his home BABIP inflated his OBP and I'm not sure how much that factors into the OPS+ calculation and how that adjustment in career WAR would compare to other 1B of his era. His career OPS+ is 133; the only two players with a career OPS+ of 133 who are not in the HOF are David Wright (not eligible until next year as he last played in 2018) and Danny Tartabull.
  5. Dolphins are a protected species.
  6. Why would Burkett lose his scholarship? P5 conferences have been guaranteeing 4-year scholarships for over a decade now.
  7. QBs are great, but he also needs to prove that he can bring in OL, RB, and defensive front seven. The latter has been an especially weak recruit group so far, and I think that Kolodziej leaving is a big loss. He did a lot with some unheralded DL recruits, particularly getting Hennigsen, Loudermilk, and soon to be Benton into the NFL despite a system that leverages the DL to free up the LBs and not necessarily focus on play making.
  8. I think it was an attempt to get Wolf, a senior who hadn't yet announced that he would be back, a TD. When he saw it wasn't going to work, he went down quickly and didn't try to fight for any yardage.
  9. It's a private company, so I highly doubt that they would incorporate anything that would incriminate the driver/owner since they are the one paying the $19.95/mo subscription. They're only going to incorporate things that can identify people who harm the driver. As for a "police state", the police already have the ability to identify any cell phone that is within 50 feet of a crime scene. That being said, they have to get an attorney general's waiver in order to access that person's information. Same w/vehicle GPS - unless the owner gives permission (the state of IL has a program where people can pre-emptively give that permission in the event of a vehicle theft), they have to get an AG waiver to access the GPS location.
  10. https://reviver.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/rplate_safety.png Interesting. Not a fan of this being how they display a stolen vehicle - I would make sure that the word STOLEN is at least as big as the plate number if not bigger.
  11. Do they have cellular network data connectivity (i.e. 2G/3G) where if they get reported as stolen they get deactivated/flagged/easily identified as stolen?
  12. It bugs me that there still are license plates and that we're still using that 100-year-old technology. I think that's something that's ripe for innovation over the next 10 years (considering anything that is completely new today won't be in a vehicle for at least 3-4 years). Way too easy to steal and way to difficult to read to identify a stolen vehicle.
  13. They've been a bad team for a long time - this is the seventh year in a row that they've missed the playoffs. And people around here want to get rid of a head coach who has won 13 games each of the last three seasons because he hasn't gone to a Super Bowl. I hate to tell you, but it can get a lot, lot worse...
  14. What a great way to spend Christmas Day!
  15. Badgers get a commitment from 2024 4-star QB Mabrey Mettauer. I'm a bit concerned that in his social media post he referenced Phil Longo and his "Air Raid" offense. The data implies the opposite, as NC averaged ~10 more rushing plays per game than passing plays from 2019-2021 and it was about equal in 2022. And that Air Raid doesn't play in November. Just ask Maryland.
  16. He played 100% of all snap counts the last three games before the appendectomy and 4 of the last five (the exception being on turf at DET). His PFF grade on the season is 82. He's healthy, he's playing full games, and playing really well.
  17. Not last game. He got bull-rushed into the pocket a few times by the Rams bigger DEs. Needs to improve his strength.
  18. If they trade/release him post June 1st, they can't spend the money until after June 1st. Teams have to be under the cap as of the start of the league year (March 15th, 2023 for 2023 league year) so his contract will count towards the cap until June 1st. Unless they have someone they want to extend or have an agreement to trade for, pretty much all significant free agents will have found a home by then.
  19. There's a $23M cap hit if they trade or release him, $29M cap hit if they keep him. For how good he is when he's healthy, I doubt they move on from him to save $6M. 2024 is only a $11.5M cap hit if traded/released, $21.4M cash/cap savings, so I think he's a Packer in 2023 but that's the last year.
  20. Bakh? They'll incur the same $23M cap hit whether they trade or release him. They didn't extend Jenkins to play LT.
  21. A bunch of horse hockey. Buffet is an alumnus of UN-L, but I haven't heard of him donating any stupid kind of money to the football program or any NIL efforts. Nebraska's coach tweeted a few things suggesting that they lost some recruits to Miami and somewhere else due to money, so Buffet isn't bankrolling any NIL efforts.
  22. Quicken used to have great tools for that in their software. You could connect to almost every financial institution (banks, credit cards, investment accounts) and download your transactions so that you didn't have to enter them, set up your paycheck so it could track gross vs. net and deductions, and had great budgeting tools (monthly, annually, cash flow, spending categories, net worth, helping with taxes, etc.). It was well worth the $30-50/year that it cost. But they got too caught up in a new release every year instead of going to a subscription model and kept changing things that didn't need to be changed and new releases ended up being worse than prior versions. I haven't used them in years because of that, but the product they had 10-12 years ago was fantastic.
  23. If they don't rent, they likely have a mortgage... which is a loan. My property management company sets a minimum of something like 620-640 for my rental properties. That's basically the baseline for anyone who doesn't have a bad credit history; less than 600 and you have a number of missed payments/defaults. And if someone doesn't pay rent, it can take months to evict them. That's months that you don't get rent to pay the mortgage on that property. In some jurisdictions you can't even begin the eviction process until after 90 days. Then you're dealing with legal fees/court costs, and even if you get a judgment in your favor, good luck actually seeing that money. When you actually do evict them, they trash your place, costing you even more money. Side note - it's worth paying a property management company to handle that stuff. Mine takes 6% of each month's rent (plus any repairs that they need to make) and 35% of the first month's rent for moving someone in. Well worth $200/month (that I also can write off on my taxes) on ~$3,400 in monthly rent collected.
  24. Just the same 2-3 people who who think the Brewers have to sign a big-name free agent by the first week of December or the offseason is a disaster and the ownership group is not trying to win and only concerned about profits.
