  1. They overschemed to stop Ibrahim and subsequently gave up too much in the passing game on overplaying the run on RPOs. UW had some success earlier in the season using those similar RPOs, but haven't been using that the last few weeks. The RPO is one of the best things you can do for a struggling OL because you get 3 yards before OL are called for being illegally downfield in college (versus one yard in the pros). That goes back to the OC. The 3rd quarter yesterday was perhaps the best play calling I've seen all year. It was the first time in weeks and the first time all game that they put two WRs on the same side when there were only two WRs on the field. I think that helped scheme to get the WRs open for the big pass plays in the 3rd quarter. But then that went away in the 4th quarter. That goes back to the OC. What happened to the jet sweep? Yes, Melvin Gordon was special but he isn't faster than Isaac Guerendo. Why weren't they running it with Guerendo? What happened to the TE screen? What happened to the "bunch" formation that was successful in the past in scheming to get WRs open? What happened to the "hippo" short yardage formation? The "barge"? If I'm Leonhard I'm assigning a couple of grad assistants to study the hell out of the 2009-2010 offenses and figure out how to run (or fake) the jet sweep, execute a TE/WR screen, and run/pass block. Tolzien was better than what the average fan gives him credit for, but he's the type of QB that UW can get. Why were they the #5 offense in the country in 2010 (before Russell Wilson and Melvin Gordon got there)? Why were they the #25 offense in 2009?
  2. The first thing they need to find is an offensive coordinator who knows how to scheme to get receivers open and create some holes in the running game. This was not the year for a rookie offensive coordinator learning on the job.
  3. Let's look at this another way and take a trip in the Way Back Machine. 2011. The Brewers decide to keep Fielder and go for it. They make it to the NLCS, but lose to "that team 400 miles to the southwest that shall not be named". The Brewers get a comp pick for Fielder that turns out to be Mitch Haniger... who they then trade for Gerardo Parra in 2014 in a failed attempt to make the playoffs. Apples and oranges, but knowing the outcome of that season now, do you still keep Fielder or would you have traded him before the 2011 season (for a likely bigger package than Haniger)?
  4. Exactly. Here are the two scenarios: Scenario A - Brewers keep Renfroe: Players Brewers have: Renfroe (for one year) Cost: $11M in salary Scenario B - Brewers trade Renfroe and use $11M to sign a FA Players Brewers have: Free Agent X (one year), Junk, Peguero, Seminaris (all for 6 years) Cost: $11M in salary for Free Agent X I really don't understand how Scenario B isn't greater than Scenario A. And the Brewers could also flip any or all of those three pitchers to another team looking to shed payroll and acquire another player.
  5. The Brewers, like many other teams, churn the bottom 2-3 spots of the 40-man every offseason. Right now I have no desire to do the research, but I know that there have been several examples in recent years of guys the Brewers have signed or claimed and then put through waivers later on in the offseason to try to keep in the organization once they've found a more desirable person for that roster spot. I get the "don't assume he's going to AAA until he actually does" standpoint, but I think it also goes both ways - don't assume he's making the ML roster until he actually does. Likely moreso for a guy who has never been in the majors before.
  6. Yep. Someone let Buster Olney know that the Angels haven't exactly been the best-run franchise over Arte Moreno's ownership.
  7. i think this whole "lineup vs LHP" is a bit overblown. Last year the Brewers faced RHP in 4,413 PAs (72% of PAs) vs. 1709 PAs (28%) vs LHP. For every bit that they struggled vs LHP (90 OPS+) they were as good vs RHP (110 OPS+). Identical BABiP vs both (.279). I'd rather dominate the type of pitcher they face 72% of the time than 28% of the time. Every RHP they keep/acquire will likely reduce their effectiveness vs. RHP who they face >70% of the time. In 2021 it was even more skewed - 4,560 PAs vs RHP (75%) vs. 1,539 PAs vs. LHP (25%)
  8. How is picking up Wong's option a cost-cutting move?
  9. Just a reminder that Mark Attanasio is the principal owner, but not the owner as he is one of 17 people with an ownership stake in the Brewers.
  10. Those three had some notable teammates on that 2022 Salt Lake Bees pitching staff: Kyle Barraclough Archie Bradley Michael Lorenzen Touki Toussaint Kodi Medeiros

  12. He was in my mock draft until he decided to return to school.
  13. Eh, Engram has made more than his share of rookie mistakes. I know that early in the season he, Chryst, and Bostad weren't on the same page, but it seems like Engram hasn't done a good job of scheming to get the WRs open. The passing offense has been very basic. Not a lot of motion, minimal use of jet sweeps/reverses/misdirection, almost no use of the RB/TE screen game at all. Seems like lots of things have almost completely disappeared (RPO, jet sweeps, motion) the last couple of weeks. Someone on another forum who said that they are a Ravens fan said that when Engram was there the Ravens passing game was very basic as well. Engram could be good for recruiting, but I wouldn't be surprised if he was replaced. He was also close with Chryst, so I wouldn't be surprised if he chose not to come back.
  14. So we're using batting average and RBIs to assess a player's value? And you say my point is "nonsensical"?

  16. You're both correct. In 2022, among pitchers with at least 90 IP, Lauer ranked #119 in FIP, a low #4. In 2021, among pitchers with at least 90 IP, Lauer ranked #65, a high #3. Between 2021 and 2022 combined, among pitchers with at least 180 IP Lauer ranked #92, a high #4.

  18. It hit off of a Badgers player's helmet. Different year, same old Nebraska.
  19. Tickets are as low as $4 on StubHub, if you happen to be in the Lincoln area.
  20. 30% of the 2022 class was from the portal. There are quality kids that will be available - remember, December is the early signing date. There will be kids who get recruited over at the helmet schools by 5/4-stars who commit at the last minute (a.k.a. "hat shows") who may get their offers pulled. Jalen Berger was a January commit. Kaden Johnson was a late December commit, as was Devin Chandler and Titus Toler. Malik Elzy (Chicago), Chance Fitzgerald, Dakota Patterson, and Trey Spivey are all high 3-star WRs who they've offered and have had contact with but haven't committed to anyone yet
  21. Spotrac has Yosh as an unrestricted free agent.
  22. They exercised Savage's 5th year option so that is fully guaranteed. More likely, they extend Clark as he already has two void years on his deal, turn his salary + roster bonus into signing bonus. Save about $9M. Add two void years on Bakh's deal and turn his salary + roster bonus into a signing bonus. Save another $9M. Extend Jones two years, turn his salary + roster bonus into signing bonus, save another $9M. Extending Gary can save another $7M.
  23. And turns out his girlfriend is going to Oregon...
  24. I think he's trying to use both remotes and have different things on different TVs...
