  1. They also clinched a playoff berth at St. Louis. So they got to dance on the field and spray beer all over the locker rooms of both Wrigley Field and Busch Stadium.
  2. Which Buffalo team shows up - the team that got creamed 47-3 at home to the Ravens, or the team that went into Minnesota and spanked them 27-6?
  3. You can't expect them to have a trio of Ball/Gordon/White, but the backups are more than adequate. The play-calling and an overrated OL are more the issues. They rarely if ever run the jet sweep anymore; part of it is not having a backup the caliber of Gordon to run it, part of it is lack of depth at the WR position, but it's a very important play to even fake because it keeps the OLBs and safeties from crashing down on the play. I think Groshek could easily run that play, and easily fake that play and run a wheel route. I think very conservative play calling is part of it. They have a formation they run a lot where everyone is essentially grouped together, typically with 2-3 TEs, and I don't like it because it puts all 11 defenders in the box as well. On that grouping they pull a guard/center and a TE and it typically only gets 3-4 yards because all of the defenders are in the box. Part of the reason for splitting out WRs is to spread the defenders and keep the free safety deep off of the line of scrimmage. Turning that formation into the jumbo package helped against Iowa. The OL is also overrated. They're good, but they're not Wagner-Groy-Frederick-Costigan-Havenstein. I've never gotten the love for Benzschawel. Edwards and Van Lanen are definitely pass blockers and not maulers. Pressure typically comes from Benzschawel or Deiter. Lastly, they have the weakest group of blocking TEs they've had in a while. Neuville's been hurt, and Penniston and Ferguson are receiving TEs. Thus one of the reasons for going with the jumbo package - better run blockers.
  4. How about an ERA of 3.35? For a guy with an ERA of 3.35 and a FIP around 3.65, I sure don't get the hate for him around here.
  5. Depends on who takes the mound in the 9th. 2 or 3 more insurance runs and I'll feel a lot better. You rang?
  6. On top of that, he was a Top 100 prospect for the Cubs, until they traded him for... Matt Garza.
  7. I'm guessing double-switch with the pitcher in Schoop's spot. Likely one pitcher per inning (hopefully) from here on out, so it doesn't matter that the pitcher's spot comes up 7th or 9th.
  8. Honest question, is there a reason you are dismissing (maybe not the right word) his 2017 season and career? Why is last year the noise and this year the signal?
  9. Woody, busting 97 mph heat on the edge of the zone. All night long. Now, this brings up the dilema - if the Brewers don't go 1-2-3 it puts them in a position to pinch-hit for Woodruff... but I'm not sure I want that. Woody is a decent hitter though. Who's even left in the bullpen tonight? At least 2.0 IP would be worth an AB. Jennings, Soria, Guerra (who has been really good out of the pen), Jeffress, Lyles (who also has been really good out of the pen), Anderson...
  10. He, like Burnes, was a top 100 prospect for a reason. Didn't get a lot of love because he was an 11th round pick, but he deserved top 100 status.

  12. Yeah, trust the process, as they say. Williams did his job, and it paid off, just not quite how you draw it up. As a head golf pro used to say to a friend of mine, "You don't draw pictures on the scorecard."
  13. The way the ump called that strike on Pina I don't know. Maybe the low one, but you have to remember who is behind the plate when it comes to close pitches, especially ones that start in the zone and break out of the zone.
