  1. One thing that has become clear this season is that they have no pass rush. Through four games they have only three sacks, which ranks tied for 121st in the country. Van Ginkel got hurt early vs BYU, but that's just one guy. They didn't sack Iowa once. I haven't seen much from Leonhard as far as designed blitz schemes. One thing they used to do that I haven't seen is load one side of the line with four rushers. Play calling on both sides of the line has been fairly conservative. Even if they win the Big Ten West, I can't see them running with Ohio State, Michigan, or Penn State. They won't be able to contain those offenses.
  2. First road game of the season. Redskins beat the hapless Cardinals who are likely one of the three worst teams in the league, and lost to the Colts at home 21-9.
  3. Arrieta's home OPS-A (.698) is lower than his road OPS-A (.734) this season.
  4. No one has been able to hit Trevor Williams. His 2nd half ERA is 1.19 and OPS-A is .544. He doesn't strike a lot of guys out, has a likely unsustainable BABIP (.253), and doesn't have a soft contact % that is that great but his hard hit % is pretty low. Keeps guys off-balance.
  5. I had to check on Kratz, as you could guess 0 career triples. He has 844 career PA . all-time leader for PA among players with 0 career triples is a former Brewer catcher...any guesses? Johnny Estrada?
  6. Did I see that there is an Ed Sedar bobblehead coming out? Will it double as a fan from the arm going around so fast?
  7. Didn't he get tossed from the bench right after Counsell got tossed in that BS game a week and a half ago? He certainly stands up for his teammates.
  8. Neutral lineup, I go Burnes, Guerra (his splitter allows him to be effective vs. LHH), and either Soria or Woodruff. If it's the Cardinals or Cubs I might put Barnes in there because Barnes has owned the Cardinals this year (7.1 IP, 1 H) and historically has been very good against the Cubs. Peralta's too inconsistent, and I want to believe in Soria's experience but he has not looked good since coming here.
  9. Who also has been really good lately, also in a very small sample, is Junior Guerra. Is he a reliever, or was he tired and just needed to rest his arm a bit? I think he was tired as he was pretty good up until the middle of August. Getting essentially almost two weeks off early in September (except for one out against the Cubs) seems to have helped. Maybe he's a swingman, but I'm not giving up on him yet.
  10. Meanwhile, the Cubs can score five runs for an entire series and win two of three...
  11. Yep, he got Harvey tired enough to make a mistake. Seven run lead, time to exhale. [sarcasm]Albers?[/sarcasm]
  12. What I thought they said in the articles was that they were upgrading the clubhouses and facilities but not building a new stadium.
  13. Let's create game threads and save the 2018 thread for general discussion throughout the season.
  14. Kratz's K rate is only 18.8%, which may be why he batted there. Santana/Broxton have much higher K rates, Perez higher, Braun slightly lower (18.3%). Have to put the ball in play.
  15. That's because it slowed down and shifted paths - when they announced the starting pitcher it was still projected to land on Thursday and further north. Still a 40% chance of rain in DC on Thursday.
  16. I heard that, for some reason, Joe Ross is starting. It was frustrating. Possible rain from hurricane could delay or cancel the game. They don't want to mess with Scherzer warming up or pitching and then the game gets delayed or called. Too valuable to risk that in a lost season.
  17. Give credit where it's due, the Cubs have been painting the edge of the zone all night. Haven't had much to hit.
  18. Just looking at that, they don't need a FA SP. Burnes and Woodruff were top 100 prospects for a reason - time to give them a shot. They'll have plenty of depth, even if Nelson doesn't return - still will have Chacin, Davies, Anderson, Burnes, Woodruff, Peralta, Houser, Guerra, plus Zack Brown in AAA. That's nine starters, ten if Nelson is back. Houser is out of options and has to stay, Woodruff only has one left - would be nice to still have that option if he struggles. I'd be for bringing back Miley on a reasonable deal, as they have no LH SP, and then trading one or both of Davies/Anderson for upgrades at other positions or for restocking the farm system.
  19. I guess that's payback from last inning, but you can't call both of the first two pitches balls.
