  1. I drove a car recently that had a feature in it that would automatically slow down if you had the cruise control on and got too close to the vehicle in front of you, and would then automatically speed back up when traffic moved faster or the vehicle no longer was in front of you. Does anyone know how slow that technology will work at? If it works at 5-10 mph when I'm sitting in traffic... that would be absolutely lovely, and provide quite a bit of relief for my right knee and foot.
  2. Despite the walks, I thought he was *this* close to putting it all together the last few weeks. He sure did today! Jankins... not so much.
  3. Cards using Hicks in the 8th with a 6-1 lead? They must really want this... or not have a lot of confidence in their bullpen. I thought earlier this year when the Brewers got to the Cards bullpen twice that it might stick in their head. Brewers might lose this battle, but I think are winning the war.
  4. If it makes you feel any better, Nick Franklin (1.3 bWAR) was the very next pick. Followed by Ray Fuentes (-0.4), Slade Heathcott (0.4), LeVeon Washington (never made it to AA), Brett Jackson (0.0), Tim Wheeler (AAA), and Steven Baron (-0.3). Lots of teams want to forget their first round pick that year. If you drafted after the Brewers, the best you could have gotten was Garrett Richards (7.1), a career LOOGY (Rex Brothers, 4.6), or Chris Owings (3.2). (Paxton didn't sign.) If you picked before the Brewers, you are kicking yourself for passing on Trout.
  5. BABIP is much more relevant for pitchers than for hitters. High K guys tend to have high BABIP. Lewis Brinson had ridiculously high BABIP throughout the minors, not just in Colorado Springs.
  6. I like it - pre-draft deal with Beer for $2.2M (value of #30 pick), save $700K to sign three high schoolers drafted in rounds 11-19.
  7. They already have the alternative - Saladino the starter at SS, Perez the backup, Villar the emergency. Orf could be the emergency too. (Note the key word there - emergency.)
  8. In 93 innings this year Logan Gilbert has walked 20 and struck out 134. Some mocks have him available at #21, and if he is I don't see the Brewers passing on him unless they have a pre-draft deal with a guy that is $500K or so under slot. Brewers seem to like throwing $250K at a couple of high schoolers drafted in rounds 11-19, and if they think the talent level is similar from 15-50 then I could see them going with a college bat and investing $500K in some high school arms later.
  9. Over his last four starts Braden Webb has lowered his ERA from 9.82 to 5.34. Over his last two starts - 10.2 IP, 5 H, 9 BB (yikes), 13 K. Hopefully the walks are the result of working on a specific pitch or two.
  10. Coming into the game Chatwood walked 7.1/9 this year. Yet somehow miraculously his FIP was only 4.08 because he had only given up one HR in 43 IP.
  11. It was 20 years ago... I'd look up 2018 tax forms and plug in what you think he'd make and run the numbers. All I remember is that it was no big deal. I was in outside sales so I had plenty of mileage to deduct.
  12. Have a night Jake Gatewood. 4-4 with three doubles and a walk. Still the bottom of the 7th. Chattanooga has now walked 11 and not struck anyone out, and this includes 1.2 IP from 2015 #6 overall pick Tyler Jay.
  13. Flipped on the field view of Gameday to see where the HRs were... ... is this real, or is it one of the other three blue dots beyond the fence?
  14. Quite the answer from Biloxi. Strangest team pitching line from Chattanooga I've ever seen - through five innings they have walked nine and struck out zero.
  15. Highly unlikely he'll earn enough money to have to pay estimated quarterly taxes. Doesn't need to set up a business, but will need to do a schedule C (not difficult for a simple job). I had several jobs when I was young where I was a 1099. Just make sure to keep track of all deductible expenses including any mileage.
  16. Even if Williams gets the leadoff guy I think it's highly likely that Counsell still brings in Logan with Kepler, Rosario, and Morrison coming up. In that case, Logan only gives up one run, but the Brewers still lose.
  17. Prior to today's game Logan's OPS-A vs. LHB was 1.768. Now this. Davies or Anderson activated, Suter to pen, Logan DFA.
  18. And his OPS this year is now higher than Brian Dozier (.725 vs .705 prior to today's game).
  19. Should Lucas Patrick be bolded? You have 9-10 OL but only eight are bolded and only 52 bolded overall, so I'm guessing Patrick is the last. I'd bold Evans instead of Rollins, as that would make four safeties. I don't think they go seven corners and three safeties. I also think that it's an even battle right now between Rollins, House, and Brown for the sixth corner spot. If even, for cap purposes they might go with the smaller cap number in Brown but in the end health will determine which of those three get the last spot. Whitehead is the fifth safety; he was activated off of the PS when Brice went on IR. If there's an injury at safety there is a good chance he makes the roster; he started 33 games at Auburn, which is not easy to do. Because of the question marks with the health of Bulaga and Spriggs, I'd give Madison more like a 90% chance to make the roster.
  20. Prior to the start of this game, MIL was second to only ATL and Freddie Freeman in 1B OPS (.987 to .965).
