  1. The elephant in the room that I think some are overlooking is the magnitude of the jump from A to AA. If Clark and Ray were putting up the numbers they are a year from now and a year older at AA I wouldn't be concerned. I'm concerned that they will be able to put up acceptable numbers against arguably the biggest jump in pitching quality from one level to the next. I'm sure there are guys who put up less-than-impressive numbers in A-ball and then went on to become solid major leaguers - if you know of any, please list them. The one that comes to mind for me is Bobby Bonilla, and his minor league numbers are pretty similar to Trent Clark's. I'd certainly take a Bobby Bonilla career path. But that was a long time ago, and I think many more are like Tyrone Taylor and flame out at AA.
  2. Hope so. Can't stand Anderson. At least your Nelson's and peraltas had the"stuff" to be hopeful. Chase is 89-91 average all around. Why is Davies immune?
  3. Braun activated, Cravy sent back down. Two first-class flights and almost $3000 in gross salary for Cravy for being called up for a day. Not a bad day's work.
  4. No, Theo, you can't hide from these monsters
  5. I wouldn't call sub-.750 OPS in A-ball "solid". Yes, Clark is young for the league, but so was Tyrone Taylor (109 wRC+ as a 19-year old in low-A, 107 wRC+ as a 20-year-old in high A, eerily similar OPS as Clark) and he never amounted to anything. Just because they are young doesn't mean they will progress. Just because they are 24/25 doesn't mean they won't progress. Would also add Peralta and Corbin Burnes to the surging list. Lopez's peripherals (10.1 K/9, 3.77 K/BB, 7.4 H/9, 1.12 WHIP) have been much better than his ERA.
  6. Brewers in first, Cubs lead the league in errors, this is fun.
  7. Pretty impressive starts from Supak, Peralta, and Williams. Unfortunately not so much for Hader. Berberet and Ramirez have taken to this pitching thing pretty well (not so much tonight for Ramirez, but on the season as a whole). Some pretty good scouting by the Brewers to sign Ramsey. In 2014 before he got hurt, in 61.1 innings he gave up 35 hits and struck out 80 (walks a little high at 30). Last year coming back from injury in 22 IP he gave up 15 hits and struck out 29.
  8. Wily dropping 98 mph heaters followed up by 78 mph curves. Wow, that was strike three.
  9. Pop up to shallow LF. SS went out, gave way to Schwarber, but wind kept blowing the ball in and Schwarber was at the infield break when he got to it and it bounced off of his glove. Then he tried to shovel it to 2B to get the force but threw it wide, runners advanced to 3rd & 2nd.
  10. Did Sogard just swing at the first pitch? Montgomery walked three of the last four batters, and Sogard swings at the first pitch?!?
  11. Winds gusting to 20 mph plus 43 degrees plus light rain = really bad conditions.
  12. Really tough conditions. Yeah, the wind helps knock down fly balls, but the rain doesn't help grip and a wind gust can blow you off balance a little during your delivery.
  13. I don't see water on their helmets, but it's raining by me and I'm not more than 2-3 miles away.
  14. Fiers struck out 14 Cubs, including Baez and Rizzo a combined 5 times, challenging them with 89-91. It's where you put it and how you deceive them.
  15. Maybe that's part of the game plan - Counsell notes the wind is blowing hard in, so he tells Espino and Bandy to pitch to contact and don't worry about getting the ball up.
  16. Looks like the high strike is being called, and that's good because the Cubs are low-ball hitters. Fiers got his big K game against the Cubs by throwing high fastballs.
  17. So the international bonus slot from Baltimore might get used after all. Magnifico for EMJ essentially.
