  1. I've been dealing with PF for almost 20 years. Go 1/2 size up on your golf shoes (unless you have a good amount of room in them) and put a pair of these in them: http://www.newbalance.com/pd/arch-support-insole/IAS3720M.html?dwvar_IAS3720M_color=Grey#color=Grey They have these at New Balance stores and similar ones at Road Runner Sports if either of those are near you if you want to try them on first.
  2. Showalter is very athletic, but the question is how good of a shooter he is/will be; in a small sample, his career 3-pt FG% is 14.3%. Dearring did not look good in the limited PT he got this year so he will have to make a big jump to be a significant contributor. Jordan Hill redshirted, but he was always known as a passer/defender and not a shooter/scorer. Pritzl is a freshman, and we know how much Bo likes to play freshmen. T.J. Schlundt supposedly turned down scholarship offers (not from major programs) to walk on at UW; I seem to recall him as being 2-star recruit so he may be able to contribute. Matt Ferris was a better HS QB than basketball player and also starred in baseball; maybe concentrating on basketball now will yield some upside. There's depth at guard, but lots of questions behind Koenig. A frontcourt of Hayes, Brown, and Happ will be adequate. I can't remember the last time Michigan State had a significant contributor that was taller than 6'8"/6'9", and they seem to do fine each year. Perhaps a senior graduate transfer who can step in right away would help. But yeah, it is very unlikely that they will return to the Elite 8, much less Final Four.
  3. Minor leaguers with major league service time are guaranteed a minimum of $80K, so if not, it's darned close.
  4. Dekker doesn't have a good enough shot from outside to go in the top half of round 1 (31.6% from 3). Lots of guys in the NBA are athletic; the differentiators are the ones who can shoot. Back half of round 1, yes, but not a lottery pick. On the other hand, Hayes has improved his outside shot enough (37.5% from 3) to be a late lottery pick/1st round teens. He will go higher than Dekker (even though Dekker is more athletic). I wouldn't be surprised if Dukan makes a NBA roster; he understands playing his role, has a decent outside shot (a stretch 4, kind of in the Ilyasova mode, but I think more athletic), certainly understands the NBA game, and the reason he isn't starting is simply because he's playing behind three first round NBA draft picks (Kaminsky, Dekker, Hayes).
  5. Watched Perez pitch for the first time the other day. He didn't look real... fit. Not the most important thing for a pitcher, but I would think that it somewhat correlates with stamina and is somewhat of an indicator of offseason effort. Either that, or he's discovered an affinity for brownies.
  6. UNC shot 61% from 3 (including a few last-second heaves at the end), turned the ball over 4 times... and UW won. This just in - UW is good.
  7. Make that 8-11. Ridiculous.
  8. UNC 7-10 from 3, UW 7-21. Reminds me of the UNLV game from about 10 years ago when UNLV shot 70% from 3. UW the better team, UNC getting lucky.
  9. Not sure how much I can or even if I should say, but Brian had to step away for a while due to some pretty serious issues in his personal life. Not entirely sure, but maybe he lost his passion for this forum, maybe he found another calling that helped him deal with those issues better than this forum. Maybe he was sitting on a stack of "Yosted" t-shirts* and quit when the Brewers fired Ned. People change as they get older, priorities change, life happens. You never know. As a Brewers fan, I started at the high point (around '79-80), lived though the collapse of the team in the 80's (still can't believe I stayed loyal after trading away Gorman Thomas), and survived the dark years of the late 90's and early 2000's. And then I moved to LA. And then the team started their resurgence. But I wasn't here to partake in it. Even with the internet, it was hard to get a feel for what was going on, and harder to get info on the young prospects coming up. This was my way of still being connected to the Brewers. And for that, BF.net will always be earmarked for part of my time (you'll notice that I haven't been very active the last 2 years except for December/January and summer - a full-time MBA program will do that). But that is certainly not the priority for everyone. I just hope that if anyone fades away, it is because priorities change and not because of physical changes. Although, I've heard that we all go sometime eventually. (*They say you regret the things you didn't do more than the things you did do, and I definitely regret not purchasing one of those "Yosted" t-shirts.)
  10. I commented on this a while back: http://forum.brewerfan.net/viewtopic.php?p=829027#p829027 I think SeriesFinale (Joel) has a family now that keeps him busy as I haven't seen him here in a while. I watched a Brewers game with him in San Francisco, and I also met him at a game in San Diego. I can't remember if we had known we would be at the San Diego game or just randomly ran into each other after the game. As I mentioned in said above post, the other one I'd like to see back is EdgarDiazRocks.
  11. The issue I have with college basketball, and it is not nearly as bad as it used to be, is certain media outlets (read: ESPN) that gush over particular coaches. Several years ago ESPN was running commercials for their college basketball games/season that featured/highlighted certain big-name coaches. They might have just as well been running free commercials for those schools. The reality is, for as many McDonald's All Americans that have gone to Duke and North Carolina, those schools have drastically underperformed for the talent they have. Not in terms of national championships or even final fours, I'm even talking about Sweet 16's. For all the talent they've recruited they should at least be in the Elite 8 if not Final Four every year, but rarely make it. Look at how many times Duke and UNC have either been bounced in the first or second round in the last 10-15 years - or not made the tournament at all - and compare that to Wisconsin, who has had virtually no McDonald's All Americans.
  12. I think Notre Dame's win helps get UW out of Cleveland. ND has a non-conference SOS that is ranked #325 (seems odd because they beat Michigan State in OT, lost to Providence by one, and crushed Purdue), so I can see the tourney punishing that SOS by matching them up against Kentucky. The tourney will sometimes give lower seeds in exchange for playing close to home so my guess is they give UW the #1 in the West and Arizona gets the #2 in exchange for playing in LA (Gonzaga the #3). Kansas had the #2 non-conference SOS so the tourney will reward them by keeping them out of Cleveland, but I agree, they have not been impressive down the stretch. West: 1 - UW 2 - Arizona 3 - Gonzaga 4 - Oklahoma or Baylor 5 - UNC 6 - SMU/Arkansas 7 - San Diego State South (Houston) 1 - Duke 2 - Kansas 3 - Wichita State 4 - Oklahoma or Baylor 5 - Utah 6 - Arkansas/SMU 7 - Providence Midwest (Cleveland) 1 - Kentucky 2 - Notre Dame 3 - Iowa State 4 - UNI 5 - Michigan State 6 - Butler 7 - Oregon East (Syracuse) 1 - Villanova 2 - Virginia 3 - Maryland 4 - Louisville 5 - West Virginia 6 - Davidson 7 - Georgetown
  13. http://m.brewers.mlb.com/news/article/112425768/brewers-impressed-by-taylor-jungmanns-electric-fastball Cue TheCrew's three paragraph rant against Adam McCalvy for stating that Jungmann "regularly touched 97mph" in college.
  14. Marquette has replaced Noskowiak with a 6'5" 3/4-star SG from Minneapolis and a 3/4 star PG from Philadelphia. Now up to five commits for next year. Still two scholarships available. Other than an unlikely commit from Diamond Stone, I think their best option for the remaining two schollies is to find the next Matt Carlino graduate transfer and/or next Jimmy Butler/Jae Crowder juco transfer.
  15. That explains the pink eye going around the clubhouse.
  16. Amen to that. I don't care what the RPI, BPI, SOS, CYA, SOB, or any other acronym says, I'd much rather watch an undefeated team in regular conference play from a smaller/weaker conference than a .500 team from a power conference, unless that .500 team was missing a couple of star players because of injury for several games or was composed almost entirely of freshmen who took a while to figure out the college game. In fact, I think that a team should have to have a winning regular season conference record in order to be eligible for an at-large bid.
  17. An early conference tourney loss by Villanova or Virginia and a sweep through by UW and I think they move up to a #1. Notre Dame could move up to a #2 as well; Wichita State will drop, and if Kansas or Gonzaga loses early in their conference tourneys ND could move up. Notre Dame has a weak non-conference schedule, but they beat Purdue handily and also beat Michigan State. If Notre Dame can beat Duke (already did that once this year) or Virginia (close loss at home) in their tourney they have a shot at a #2.
  18. Don't be afraid of CarMax - they have a decent no-lemon policy/warranty and you won't have an inflated price you have to haggle over. They have a lot to lose as far as their reputation if they sell bad cars. Don't be afraid of American cars either. There have been as many if not more recalls on Toyotas than GM, Ford, or Chrysler the last few years. I've had eight American cars in the last 15 years (most of them company cars) and have not had an issue with anything that affected the drivability of the car - the only issue I ever had was one car had an electrical problem that would randomly pop the trunk or set off the alarm. Almost all were driven to 60K miles or more. Also check the car rental company (Hertz, Enterprize, etc.) sales. See what type of warranties they offer on their cars.
  19. If you've watched Marquette play Villanova, you will know that Villanova is a very good team, especially defensively. They are like UW in that they have six guys averaging 9 ppg or more - almost anyone on the floor can score. And they are 41st in steals and generate a lot of turnovers with their defense. They've had two ESPN 100 recruits in each of their last four recruiting classes. They have talent.
  20. This is why the NBA needs to adopt some type of free agent loss compensation like the NFL and MLB have done. Sure, teams have the right to make the largest offer, but all that does is force teams to potentially overpay free agents. That only makes bad teams worse. The Bucks felt that they were in a position where their options were a) overpay Brandon Knight to stay, or b) lose him as a free agent for nothing. Neither is a way to build a franchise. If the Bucks could have gotten some type of compensation for Knight if they couldn't resign him they might have held on to him. Not sure exactly what that would look like but it could easily be like baseball and based on the size of the contract that player signed (i.e., if it were among the top ___% of players on a per-year basis it would be a first round pick and the top 5 picks would be protected, if it were among the top ___% of players on a per-year basis it would be a first-round pick lottery-protected, otherwise it is a 2nd round pick).
  21. This. It's built on the assumption that revenues are going to increase, but it is exactly that - an assumption. Many homes were purchased a decade ago on the assumption that prices were going to keep going up. The real question though is how much other teams are doing this; if other teams are and MKE is at the average, then other teams will be in the same position. I'm hoping that this is a sign that MA knows that expanded revenue sharing is coming sooner rather than later.
  22. They've played three games in four days, five games in seven days and six games in nine days, with games on two consecutive days on the road. Prolly a little tired.
  23. I'm curious, how does that compare to other closers? What's the "norm"? I think the relevant stat is blown saves/save opportunities. These guys come in with varying leads; how you pitch depends on the situation in which you come in. With no one on base and a lead, particularly >1 run, you make hitters hit their way on and don't walk them. A solo HR doesn't hurt you. With inherited runners on base you go for the K. Kimbrel blew 4 of 51 opportunities. K-Rod blew 5 of 49. Rosenthal blew 6 of 51. Jansen blew 5 of 49. Beyond that, it gets worse with the exception of Chapman (2 of 38) and the time Street was with SD (1 of 25; overall 3 of 44). In the AL the exceptions were Rodney (3 of 51) and Holland (2 of 48). By that, he was among the top 8 closers in the league. Anyone other than those eight... and you likely would hate them even more. (And some of those guys pitch in pitcher-friendly parks - San Diego, Seattle, LA - whereas Miller Park ranks as one of the most unfriendly) That being said, I don't like the multi-year deal. I would have preferred 1 yr $6M with a mutual option for a 2nd year.
  24. Send Rogers down to AAA and give him the 3B job, tell him it's his to lose in 2016. Unless he is brutally awful defensively.
  25. As someone who is in the process of making a career change, and giving up a more lucrative/higher-paying career for a lower-paying one, because I wasn't happy I can relate. If you're not happy doing what you're doing, make a change. I fully support that. That being said, if a year from now he's back in the league with another team you can then apply the label of "turd".
