  1. Part of the risk in investing in high school players. Yes, Delmonico is several years beyond that now, but you learn quite a bit about decision-making, maturity, and personal responsibility in college. Maybe it's medical, maybe he's never been held accountable for his actions before, but this is part of the higher-risk part of kids coming out of high school.
  2. The problem with Marquette is that with only 9 scholarship players you already need at least one walk-on in order to just practice, much less if anyone goes down with injury. I think you're seeing that with them this year as simply a lack of bodies makes it hard to practice. The question with UW is who is going to play guard besides Koenig? Showalter has athleticism but no shot - he's shooting 37.5% from the floor and is 1-12 from 3-pt. Jordan Hill is being redshirted, but he's not known as a scorer. Riley Dearring hasn't shown enough to get on the floor with Jackson down. Pritzl will be a true freshman, and Bo isn't known for giving PT to true freshmen. The rest are walk-ons. If Koenig goes down they are in big trouble. You need more than one good guard if you are going to win enough to be a #1 seed, much less go deep in the tourney.
  3. Sacramento is a good trade partner. 2nd to Sac for Reggie Evans Sanders to Sac for Jason Thompson & Carl Landry
  4. To add insult to injury, Marquette has released PG recruit Nick Noskowiak from his letter of intent. http://www.jsonline.com/sports/goldeneagles/marquette-grants-release-to-basketball-recruit-nick-noskowiak-b99444793z1-291926831.html Sounds like it doesn't have much to do with the school though and mostly has to do with a home situation and a probable need to get as far away from it as possible. Marquette now has only nine scholarship players committed for next season. Hope there are a few more Matt Carlino's available next year. So much for Semi Ojeleye, apparently he is heading to SMU.
  5. Never call a doctor's office on a Monday morning if it isn't an emergency. You and every patient of theirs who got sick, forgot their medication refill, had some type of accident, etc., over the weekend are all trying to call in at the same time. If you can, wait until the afternoon or tomorrow.
  6. Not that uncommon. Sometimes companies put on hiring freezes, frequently when going through some type of restructuring/acquisition/disposition, after positions have already been posted. Departments go straight to HR when they have an open position and HR's job is to post it; neither know if/when a CEO/board of directors/etc. is going to put on a hiring freeze. Happened to one of my classmates last summer. Started as a MBA intern with P&G and they have always extended offers if people do a good job, but after he accepted his internship they decided to sell off some of their divisions/brands. P&G wanted to make sure that people in those divisions who wanted to stay with P&G in Cincinnati could have opportunities elsewhere so they put a hiring freeze on and did not extend my classmate an offer. Now P&G is starting to put out feelers for full-time MBA grads but not officially recruiting yet.
  7. No Parker, no Knight, no Ilyasova, no Pachulia, no Sanders, no Marshall, and no Mayo for the second half on the road against the #2 team in the East... no problem. Only one road game over the next three weeks. Hopefully they can get some healthy bodies back by Friday as they will have three games in four days.... and hopefully they don't look past the Lakers.
  8. Lock up Middleton. For those who are upset about trading Tobias Harris, while Harris is averaging more points and rebounds per 36 minutes Middleton has a higher 2-pt., 3-pt., and FT shooting % than Harris, and Middleton is also averaging more assists, more steals, and fewer turnovers per 36 minutes than Harris. For his career, Middleton has made >41% of his 3-point attempts and is >44% this season. Sure, looking back the Bucks (read: Herb Kohl) probably shouldn't have traded Harris (we'll see how the draft picks pan out), but it has allowed Middleton to shine and the stats suggest that Middleton is a more efficient player. The Bucks probably would have shopped Harris anyway after drafting Parker, as he wouldn't have been projected to get much playing time behind Parker, GA, and Middleton. And how the heck did the Bucks get Dudley plus a protected (likely late) 1st round pick for Delfino, Raduljica, and a 2nd? Dudley is hitting 57% of 2-pt. shots and 41% of 3-point shots. With his relatively low salary they could easily flip him for a late 1st round pick, essentially trading a mid-2nd round pick and dumping Delfino for two late first-round picks.
  9. Whenever I fast forward/rewind/skip while watching TV through my DVR an annoying green bar comes up across the bottom 20% of the screen or so for several seconds showing me where the program is in relation to the recording or real-time. This is especially annoying while watching sports because that is usually where they put the scores, stats, etc., and I can't figure out how to permanently turn it off. I can hit "exit" on the remote, but if I do that a split second after the bar automatically hides itself I exit out of the recording completely and have to go back in to my DVR recordings and play it again. Who the heck cares where you are in relation to the length of the recording? The other thing that bugs me is that in this day and age of cable TV and DVRs and on-demand services is when you turn on a TV program that is already underway, why can't you send a signal through the cable box to upload the rest of the program that you missed to your DVR? How can technology have not evolved to that point yet?
  10. It takes time to learn how to win. Look at OKC - they had Durant, Westbrook, and Harden and it wasn't until their third year of playing together that they reached the finals. Durant & Westbrook's first year of playing together they didn't even make the playoffs, and the first year that all three were together the got bounced in the first round. Many of those losses to teams over 500 was during their tough December schedule when they were still learning Kidd's system and learning to play with each other. The Bucks are also one of only three teams to win at Atlanta... and Atlanta hasn't lost since.
  11. There are specially-designed side sleeper pillows that are shaped like a hook, with a long tail that goes down your back to keep you from flipping on your back. If you live in or find yourself in the Madison area get in contact with me as I have an extra one. Alternatively, you can try putting some pillows behind you to keep you from falling on your back.
  12. No Parker, no Ilyasova, no Pachulia, no Sanders, no Marshall, no problem. At Orlando, at Miami, home against Portland, and had a chance to win at San Antonio. Not championship caliber, but coming together quite nicely.
  13. In the meantime, if you don't already, sleep on your side or stomach. I recently shared a hotel room with a friend who was having pretty bad sleep apnea, to the point where I was scared; granted, he was somewhat drunk and extremely tired but when I rolled him over onto his stomach he started breathing just fine.
  14. I have a HP OfficeJet 6600 printer and the pick rollers no longer turn to pull paper up into the machine. The paper feed rollers work and turn, but the pick rollers won't turn (I got some hard stock paper jammed in it and I think I broke something pulling the paper out). I've reset the printer and cleaned the rollers and now am at the point where the HP website says "contact for service". Does anyone know if this is something easy/cheap to fix? This printer blows through cartridges and will not print, even in only black ink, if just one of the color cartridges is depleted so I have no desire to plug a lot of money into it to fix it.
  15. Look at the success that Fiers has had after developing a fourth pitch. People keep doubting him because of his fastball (89mph) saying that he needs to locate it almost perfectly in order to succeed, but he also throws a big curve (70mph), a change (80mph), and now has added a cutter (86mph) and has confidence in all of them. He can throw anything at any time which keeps hitters off balance, and the ~20mph difference between his fastball and curve and ~10mph difference between fastball and change makes his fastball look 95+. The evidence is the number of Ks he gets on 89mph fastballs up in the zone. Another pitch could be a game-changer (literally) for Nelson, but he has to have confidence in it. Hopefully that is the case.
  16. After watching the Rumble last night (thank you snowstorm), I'm not sure that Reigns is the one that is getting the push. I think it might be Brock Lesnar. After watching Lesnar toss guys across the ring with supplexes - and some of them certainly weren't clean - I'm not sure that is the guy you want wrestling Bryan who is coming off of neck surgery. This may actually be a long-sighted move and not a short-sighted one; put Bryan in the ring with Lesnar and if Bryan's neck isn't fully healed all it takes is one bad supplex and Bryan's career could be over and one of your biggest draws is done forever. Same with the Rumble; put a bunch of random guys in the ring and if one guy isn't careful it could be curtains for Bryan as well, thus the relatively short stint. Reigns can feud with Lesnar for a while until there is more evidence on how Bryan's surgically repaired neck holds up, then have Bryan go for the title at Summer Slam.
  17. I think people forget that last year Bryan wasn't even in the Rumble and he ended up in the main event at WM. Winning the rumble isn't the only way to get there. It is strange that he didn't last longer or wasn't one of the last few, but maybe he had a setback with his injury and they don't know if he can do the type of match that is expected of a WM headline. Maybe this is the signal to the WWE to change the winner of the Rumble headlining WM because after all is said and done no one could have been the winner except Bryan.
  18. So the surprise non-roster entrants were Bubba Ray (predicted), DDP (didn't hear anything about), and one of my favorite wrestlers/characters of all time, The Boogeyman. Usually they put one of the surprise non-roster invitees towards the latter part, in the 24-28 range; understandably since Bubba Ray wasn't any surprise he went early, but surprised (unless I wasn't aware of it being leaked) that DDP wasn't slotted in that 24-28 range. Curious as to what kind of reaction The Boogeyman got.
  19. Sting at 50:1?? I'd drop $20 on that in a heartbeat. Anyone in Vegas??? I'll PayPal you $20. That's only 25, room for five more.
  20. I almost put Bray in there, but I don't think he's there yet. A guy like Sting, The Rock, Undertaker, etc., wouldn't have to wrestle much if at all before WM and thus it wouldn't take any heat away. You have two months before WM; Bray (and Ziggler) need to be active for two months and I don't know how they stretch it out for two months with those two guys and who they would wrestle/feud with in the meantime.
  21. Hoffman (age 34): 2.73 ERA, 2.04 FIP, 1.18 WHIP, 10.5 K/9, 3.83 K/BB Hoffman (age 35): injured, small sample Hoffman (age 36): 2.30 ERA, 2.74 FIP, 0.95 WHIP, 8.8 K/9, 6.63 K/BB Hoffman (age 37): 2.97 ERA, 2.50 FIP, 1.11 WHIP, 8.4 K/9, 4.50 K/BB (17th in MVP voting) Hoffman wasn't throwing much over 90, if that. Sure, his K/9 dropped but his K/BB increased and his WHIP decreased. Mariano Rivera's age 34-36 seasons were arguably better than his age 30-32 seasons. Lee Smith had a little bit of a dropoff at age 35 but it wasn't off a cliff; his ERA and FIP were still under 4. Doug Jones' ERA was all over the place age 34-37 but his FIP was twice in the mid-3.00's and twice in the mid/low 2.00's those seasons. He certainly wasn't hitting anywhere near 90. That being said, I'm not in favor of a trade because I don't think they need him. Henderson said he feels good, and they have Broxton and Jeffress; between the three of them I think they can find a closer. They need to add another LH bullpen arm more than Paplebon.
  22. I HATE the Royal Rumble as it is now, with the winner wrestling for the title at WM. Completely eliminates all but about five or six guys winning it and any element of surprise whatsoever. Really, who are you going to have headline Wrestlemania? It can't be Lesnar, Cena, or Rollins because they aren't in it right? Bryan, yes (no pun intended because I HATE that chant and don't understand how it got over); maybe Ziggler but I don't think he's there yet. Reigns, yes, maybe Ryback. My guess is it is one of these five who are profiled on the website - Sting, The Rock, Undertaker, Rey Mysterio, Randy Orton. I'd put all of these guys over anyone but Bryan or Reigns. Of those, I think it's Sting. And I'll bet $1 that one of those five guys is #30. If I'm handicapping it: 1) Sting, 2) Bryan, 3) The Rock, 4) Reigns, 5) Undertaker, 6) Orton, 7) Mysterio. I think they'd let Ziggler wrestle for the title on another PPV, but not WM.
  23. How much faxing do you need to do? If it's not much, might be cheaper to just go to FedEx/Kinko's. There are email-to-fax services out there. Used to have one for work several years ago, but the service was dropped because of how seldom we used it. I have a hard time believing that anything that you're in school for will require a lot of faxing as hardly anyone uses fax machines anymore. Is there a student center at school that has a fax machine?
