  1. Got smoke coming from my brand new grill and opening day is three days away. Crap, I forgot to get brats yesterday.
  2. Dawson Garcia is from Minneapolis, but then again, Minnesota might as well be home state. Perhaps the biggest challenge with these kids is that they go to Nike camps and UW is an Under Armour school. There is A LOT of politicking and steering kids towards Nike schools, and with NIL now being legal, there could be legitimate contracts for them to go to Nike schools if they want to be sponsored ("NIL'd"?) by Nike.
  3. Last week Fed chair Jerome Powell said any effects on inflation from U.S. President Donald Trump's tariffs would be "transitory." I highly doubt that the Fed is going to consider the effects of tariffs as justification for raising rates.
  4. Iowa and Minnesota have new coaches. Iowa hasn't made it to the Sweet 16 since 1999. Minnesota hasn't make it to the Sweet 16 since 1997. We're doing just fine.
  5. They won't have any issue with bringing in quality players from the portal. Gard has been getting calls from agents for players who were planning on entering the portal or who would enter the portal if UW was interested since early January. Players have taken note of what Storr and Tonje have done there.
  6. A sexual assault allegation against Hairston has surfaced, with apparently five more women reaching out to the girl who filed the complaint. He was a minor at the time, either an early enrollee or on a campus visit, which may be why it is now just surfacing (could be laws in KY regarding publicly naming criminal complaints against minors). Apparently it's on TikTok with screenshots of an official report from back in 2021.
  7. Then all that does is prevent you from being down less than 8. Why act like it's a guarantee that they'll make a shot? It's not. Play good defense after making the shot so that they, at best, have a low percentage shot. If you're down 8 to a good team, you need to take some chances.
  8. The portal won't be an issue. Gard has been getting calls since January from agents for players who plan on entering the portal or who would enter the portal if UW was interested. Players have taken note of what Storr and Tonje have done the last two years.
  9. Re: Crowl at the end of the first half How many times have we seen them wait until 8 seconds left in the half to start running their offense only to not end up getting a good look? It was a relatively high % shot, and I would much rather they take a high % shot with time remaining than wait too long and not get a good look. I have no issues with it. As pointed out, there were plenty of other worse decisions (e.g. Klesmit fouling a deep 3 point shot from a 27% 3-point shooter, the technical foul on the bench). The bigger factor is that BYU shot 46% from 3 and 94% from the FT line, whereas UW shot 34% from 3 and 79% from the FT line. That was the difference in the game, not shooting a high % shot with time remaining in the first half.
  10. If BYU shoots 46% from 3 and 94% from the free throw line like they did tonight, they're going to be very difficult to beat.
  11. Given the millions and millions of brackets that have been submitted and not one ever has been perfect, there is more randomness to the NCAA tournament than any other sporting event on the planet.
  12. They also know where the jerk store is. A flagrant 2, a technical, and one guy waving goodbye after the final buzzer.
  13. I'd love to go to the game today, but right now the cheapest ticket in the entire arena is $240 in the 3rd deck. Absurd. Ten years ago I paid $400 for a ticket in the 2nd level to the national championship game for a game that was within driving distance of Wisconsin. I'll pay $240 for a good seat, but not for the 3rd level. Screw the NCAA for selling tickets to these games well before the teams are announced and feeding the scalpers, and for only giving each team 500 tickets. I had basketball season ticket holders request tickets and they were gone before they got down to their level of "donations". Hopefully this is the next NCAA lawsuit. Yeah, nobody's scalping tickets...
  14. They are being paid for their name, image, and likeness by an organization in the United States which is earning income in the United States which is in violation of the rules on having a student visa. If they didn't revoke the athlete's student visa, there would be federal lawsuits by every foreign student who was denied the opportunity to earn income or who was kicked out of the US for violation of that rule for having a student visa (as well as likely every upcoming opponent of that school). If they didn't report the income, then they didn't pay taxes on it, which is then tax evasion which is a felony, which also gets your visa revoked as well as possible imprisonment. And would you really risk your visa getting revoked and being permanently denied entry into the United States?
  15. No. Has nothing to do with the NCAA rules (or lack thereof) and everything to do with federal law around student visas. People in the US on a student visa cannot be here to make money. If they do, and don't report it and it gets discovered, then they are in violation of federal law and their student visa gets revoked. If they are no longer a student, they have to get a green card which, if they are found to violate federal law around a visa, gets revoked and they are ineligible to play professionally in the US and they will not get another visa or green card anytime soon.
  16. The last four minutes of that game was probably the worst four minutes of college basketball that I've ever watched. Looked like they didn't even belong in their conference tournament, much less the NCAA.
  17. Zrno is from Bosnia and would need to come here on a student visa, so he cannot collect NIL. People with student visas cannot come to the US to "work"/make money.
  18. Tonje named 2nd team AP All-American. Chucky Hepburn honorable mention.
  19. Who have our division rivals lost as free agents? What was their net gain, factoring in free agent signings as well as losses? After watching the playoff game against the Eagles, would you have prioritized WR or IOL? How would you have addressed IOL - who and how much? And what free agent that any team has signed hasn't been overpaid?
  20. "All the bad teams are on spring break." -Greg Gard
  21. No team who they're competing with for a 3-seed made their conference championship game. A coupe of them got bounced during the quarterfinals of their conference tournaments.
  22. And for all of the goaltending non-calls that have been happening since the beginning of time, the refs know that a whistle and a goaltending call allows it to be reviewed but no whistle no call prevents it from being reviewed. SO IF IT'S CLOSE BLOW THE WHISTLE AND MAKE THE DAMN CALL SO IT CAN BE REVIEWED!!!!!
  23. This tweet from Ingalls does a great job of explaining what "effective cap space" is and why what Spotrac shows is not really correct: ://x.com/KenIngalls/status/1899798283297403268
  24. The PTBNL for Hobbs?
  25. Yes and no. Keep in mind the dual mandate - and whenever Powell references the dual mandate he always says "maximize employment" before "control inflation". If unemployment were to rise more, then there would be justification to lower interest rates. There would likely be selling, but not because of any inclination that the executive branch coerced them to do it - it would be because rising unemployment is a leading indicator of recession.
