    If he was drafted in 2015 out of college at 21 then he would have needed to be added to the 40-man after the 2018 season and then optioned to the minors at the beginning of the 2019 season. Unless they chose not to protect him, which I doubt with him being the 6th overall pick in the draft 3.5 years prior. In 2020 he was released before the season started, so no option used. By my count, he should have two options remaining. My guess is that he's getting a brief audition (or selling him on staying with the org after getting DFA'd) prior to Williams/Ross/Hall needing to be activated.

    Agree on Haase, but y'all know that Bauers has a higher OPS than Sanchez, right? Sanchez was only given $3M for a reason. DFA Sanchez, keep Haase.

    Close, but not quite. Wichrowski was $100K, Kuehner $72K, Manfredi $27.5K, and the final pick in the 10th round slot value was $165k.

    I was wondering if it was that Tyler Jay. Turns out it is. Can't believe he's 30 already, and that this was the first year he made it to the majors. So, what in the world are the Brewers going to do with him?

    When you're up by 3 in the 9th you go right at them and make them hit their way on. And to their credit, one of the best players in the game (when healthy) did exactly that.

    Not sure what game you're watching, but the Brewers relievers haven't given up a run today.

    And if they do they will have to compete with multiple other teams to try to sign them as free agents with no guarantee that they will sign with them. By trading for them they guarantee that they will get them, and it may cost less overall than what they might have to sign them for as a free agent with a handful of other teams competing for the same people. By trading for them they are eliminating the risk that they choose to sign with someone else.

    There's also still a LOT of teams with 3-4 games of the wild card, and a lot of them need bullpen help. Arizona has one LHRP (who, like Milner, has a not good ERA but a much better FIP). And they have Thiago Vieira in their bullpen. The Mets have Jake Diekman and Adrian Houser in their bullpen. The Mariners have one LHRP plus Mike Baumann in their bullpen. Hell, the Mariners have one LHP on their entire team. Payams and Milner won't be the best guys in anyone's bullpen, but they'll be improvements over a lot of guys in other team's bullpens.

    I'm wondering if they were trying to float a big gun down - perhaps Sloan, who was taken two picks before theirs in the 2nd round - and had planned on needing more $ but then suddenly found themselves with extra $.

    Given that they usually don't spend a lot on International pitching, given the success they've had recently with International hitters, and given that they have two A-ball club rosters to fill out with only a 20-round draft (of which 3-4 typically don't sign), I'm not surprised that the draft is pitching-heavy.

    Typically they wait with the big swings on day 3 until rounds 14/15/16, and it seems like that's what they're doing.

    R.I.P. Looks like it may have been caused by the recklessness of another, or possibly a drag race a la Jalen Carter/Devin Willock type of situation. Nothing good happens at 3:30AM.

    Really like what they did today. Love the comments that Dinges can catch, there just was someone else better than him on the team. Assume JUCO transfer as he only had one year at FSU but slashed .323/.425/.583 with the same number of BB (38) as K (37). If he is only an average catcher defensively I'll take that slash line any day. The mid-round arms have some interesting stat lines. Holobetz has a really good, but really small, line from the Cape Cod league last year so maybe he wasn't being used correctly at ODU. Molina has some good K numbers and maybe Arkansas messed with his mechanics/pitch selection compared to what he was doing at Texas Tech. Closing w/two HS arms means they still have some cash to spend. Pitching can always be traded for bats.

    We should know by now that the Brewers place a high value on centerfielders with plus speed/range who can cover a lot of ground and that the Brewers place a high value on defense that can aid in run prevention.

    Maybe in totality due to there being 85 scholarship football players and 13 scholarship basketball players, but on a per-player basis basketball players get way, way more than football players. But even in totality, it's very close. Only QBs can get anywhere near what basketball players get.

    https://www.mlb.com/prospects/draft/chris-levonas-815484 Thin and wiry strong in a Joe Kelly or Walker Buehler way, Levonas has big stuff despite his smaller frame. He was up to 96-97 mph over the summer and has continued that this spring, throwing the fastball in the 91-96 range. He can really spin two different breaking balls and depending on when he’s been seen, both the low-80s slider and upper-70s curve have appeared better, flashing rpm north of 3,000. There’s some feel for an upper-80s changeup as well that could be average. High spin, high velocity. Any Walker Buehler comp and I approve.

    I can't see the Brewers DFA'ing a guy they gave $7M to (unless he's been a lot worse than Junis has been this year).

    I'm always skeptical of Tennessee hitters because of the short porch at their home field, but he did lead the NCAA with 30 doubles. Just turned 21 a month ago.

    Could be another under-slot pick. Burke was #65 on MLB.com. They're buying down some HS players to their later picks. That's the only thing I can think of.

    I'd love Sloan, but if his number is $4M and if the Brewers saved at least $1.5M (hopefully more) on their first pick then I wouldn't expect Sloan until 57 or 67.
