    To Hicklen's credit, he's forcing the issue. The problem right now is figuring out the 40-man roster spots for the pitchers coming back from the 60-day IL first. D.L. Hall is ready to come back, Ross just had his first rehab start (it was his back, not his arm, so I assume a quick ramp-up for rehab appearances), and Devin Williams will be back soon. So who are the three who get DFA'd? Herget, Capra (assuming Ortiz is back from the IL soon), and then one of Zastryzny, Keuchel (not until Ross is back), or possibly Junk? Maybe Haase once Sanchez is back, but do you risk losing your catching depth if they DFA him? Then you potentially have Bukauskas coming back, that's another spot. Then you have possibly adding another pitcher at the trade deadline. For Hicklen to be added, that means DFA-ing perhaps all three of Zastryzny, Keuchel, and Junk to make room for him. I don't see that happening until September 1st when they can add another position player as it will likely take until then to sort the pitching out.

    I don't know about destroying the bullpen, but you can go to very different environments. In Denver the air is thin and dry, and as such breaking balls don't break as much because there isn't as much humidity in the air to cause friction with the baseball to make it break. So you have to pitch differently and focus more on changing speeds. In LA, if you get the marine layer rolling in at night the air can get very thick and you're basically not much higher than sea level. You're going from thin, dry air at 5000 feet to thick air at 500 feet.

    Interesting dilemma on that role. When Devin comes back, do you move him back to closer? Or does he get Wally Pipp-ed for Megill and get the 8th? Williams last year: 13.3 K/9, 4.3 BB/9, 0.6 HR/9 Megill this year: 10.2 K/9, 2.2 BB/9, 0.3 HR/9

Speaking of that, looking at Millennial men collectively as a whole, I can understand why women don't want to have sex with a lot of them. 😜 4M more Gen Z than Gen X.     Texas would pass on that as well, they're as stocked as MIL is at OF with Garcia, Langford, Carter, and Taveras.

    Was just reminded that last year Civale was traded to TB for Kyle Manzardo, a consensus top-75 prospect who played in the Futures Game last year. Getting him for a Barrios seems like a pretty good value.

    Or one could make the argument with Scherzer (and his agent) that the Dodgers have won 100 games or more in five of the last six full seasons... and didn't win the World Series in any of them, only in the shortened 2020 season. That, and marginal state income taxes in WI are half of what they are in CA. He may not be excited by going from 0% marginal income tax in TX to 14.63% marginal income tax in CA.

    Also career 6.3 BB/9. The career 0.3 HR/9 will cause that FIP to come down, but walking 6.3/9 at the age of 26 probably offsets that. And he also walked 7.6/9 at UL-M. Lefties do tend to take longer to develop, though.

    For starters, Keuchel. Could move Wilson back into the pen. Or perhaps they want to go back to a 6-man rotation. Might mean no plans to move Junis back to the rotation this season, perhaps Hall as well. Peralta, Rea, Myers, Civale... hell, still need at least one of Wilson or Keuchel.

    Texas now nine wins back of the last wild card spot, and they have the pitching to deal. I've said this before, but I think the pitcher who makes the most sense is Max Scherzer (if the Rangers can kick in some cash). Making $43M this year with the Mets sending $21M to Texas, assuming Texas sends pro-rated cash from Mets to MKE it's about $8M for the rest of the season. Big salary so it won't take much prospect capital to get him. Last year of his contract so the Brewers aren't on the hook for a big salary next year. Lots of playoff experience. His salary can be made up for with a deep playoff run. I don't think the Rangers are going to part with any pitchers under contract next year - they have too much talent and will likely try to run it back. Heaney is an option as well, but at a lower salary he'll likely require more prospect capital back and doesn't have the playoff experience that Scherzer has.

    There are 47 players with at least 100 PAs at 1B this season. Bauers ranks #22 in terms of fWAR (0.4) but 35th in PA's; his fWAR per PA is above league average for 1B. Only 24 players with >100 PAs at 1B have positive fWAR, only 12 have a fWAR at this point of 1.0 or greater, and 40% (21 of 47) have a negative fWAR. If all one cares about is offense, he ranks #21 of 47 in wRC+. I agree that Black has more upside, but Bauers has value. He's been better, statistically, than over half of his peers (including Paul Goldschmidt).

    Wyatt Sanford, SS, HS - gives me some Brice Turang vibes Ben Hess, RHP, Alabama - walks were up a little bit this year, but so were his K's striking out 106 in 68 IP in the SEC. Showed well in a small sample in the Cape Cod league when he was 19. Little bit of an injury history.

    Exactly. Repairs are expensive no matter what type of vehicle. Front struts on my 2016 Lincoln MKX needed to be replaced - $2,300 at the dealership, $1,600 at Pep Boys (plus 10.25% Chicago sales tax). Pushing 100K miles, replacing the spark plugs is $600 (dealer) / $500 (Pep Boys/local shop).

    I bet it will be closer to five - Yelich, Contreras, Turang, Hudson, Megill. The only reason I'm not listing Ortiz is because McMahon is likely to be the only COL rep and thus the likely backup 3B. Which 2B deserves it more than Turang? The only ones really even in the conversation are India (bad team, EDLC will be selected as the backup SS so do the Reds deserve another rep?) and Croenenworth (better team, but fighting with Profar, Tatis, Merrill, Arraez, and Cease to be the Padres reps and the Brewers deserve more reps than the Padres). Maybe Arraez, but he's not even playing 2B for the Padres and Turang has a better offensive stat line anyway.

    Talked with a guy yesterday who does vehicle sales for a big dealership and he said that Cybertrucks are going for $30K over list price. I wouldn't say at this point that they're "stupid". He said that the people who have been buying Hummer EVs are trading them in for Cybertrucks.

    I think we're missing the obvious here - 2019. Handicapping for a draft bonus pool and more advanced scouting, the 2019 draft was IMO worse than these. I think a vast majority are already out of baseball and there may be only a couple more who have any chance to make it. While two have made it, Ethan Small hasn't pitched this season and is unlikely to improve on his negative bWAR. David Hamilton, that's really it from that draft. Given that O'Keefe was traded for Caldwell, I'd say that draft was a lot more successful than 2019.

    I don't know, and I honestly don't care about the mandates. I like some EV's (particularly the Fisker Ocean, and some other companies that built them from the ground-up including the Hummer EV) because they are really cool vehicles, they are really fun to drive (faster than ICE vehicles), and I'd love to have a gas station in my own garage.
