  1. He was drafted, by Pittsburgh in the 12th round in 2022, but didn't sign. Looking at his line in 2023 at Mississippi State, I can see why he wasn't re-drafted.
  2. I'm still trying to figure out what happened with Pratt. How did so many other teams not know that he could be signed for under $1.4M? Did Pratt put up too big of a number pre-draft and then once they got past the 3rd round drop his number? If so, did no other teams have $1.4M remaining at that point? Whoever the Brewers scout is in Indiana deserves a big raise. Yoho, Letson, Adamczewski.
  3. He didn't exactly list three great reasons to do that (if even one).
  4. Over his last 28 days he's slashing .284/.372/.328; just needs the power and extra base hits to come around.
  5. And Tyler Glasnow and Brusdar Graterol.
  6. Buy a second battery. In exchange for the noise reduction, you might be able to talk your next-door neighbor into buying the second battery for you.
  7. Need to get Skenes out of the game and Yelich swings on 2-0 without making him throw a strike first, Adames tries to ambush the first pitch which is inside, and then Frelick swings on 1-0 without making him throw a strike first. SMH...
  8. With Reynolds, Cruz, and Tellez coming up you have to try to get Civale through McCutcheon so they can bring in a lefty.
  9. I'm totally OK with not getting a hit this inning if it means that Skenes throws at least 14 more pitches.
  10. Core CPI up only 0.1% MoM, shelter up only 0.2% MoM (in the hottest months for rent demand and lease initiations). Core up 3.3% YoY vs. 3.4% YoY last month. All-items declined 0.1% MoM, first decline since May 2020. Gas down 3.8% MoM during the first month of summer driving season, where it usually goes up.
  11. Zack Wheeler left Tuesday's game early with lower back tightness. Said his back had been bothering him lately. All it takes is a couple of injuries...
  12. Pirates saw 5 pitches in the 9th. They just wanted to get the hell out of there.
  13. Hitting .290 over the last 28 days, .355 OPB, just hasn't been getting extra base hits.
  14. Hopefully Bauers PH for Yelich was just a "we think it's out of hand so give Yelich the rest of the night off" and not anything else...
  15. https://www.mlb.com/prospects/draft/cam-smith-701358 Smith runs better than he did in high school and has the chance to be a very good third baseman, with a strong arm, at the next level.
  16. Of those who realistically expect to be there, my preferences are: Carson Benge Brody Brecht Ryan Sloan (so long as he's under $5M) I have a feeling that someone a few slots above the Brewers is going to take the less risky Benge at an underslot deal. Really tempted by Sloan; HS pitchers are the biggest risk, but he seems physically mature already and seems to have an advanced feel for the cutter and changeup and working the entire zone. Coming from central IL, he's probably pitched in colder weather.
  17. 2023 AAA stats: Winker: .286/.462/.500; .962 OPS Hiura: .308/.395/.565; .960 OPS Seems pretty similar, right? Winker: 23 BB/ 13 K in 93 PAs; 24.7% BB rate, 14% K rate Hiura: 31 BB/ 90 K in 367 PAs; 8.4% BB rate, 24.5% K rate That's why Winker was brought back up at the end of the season and got two PH ABs in the playoffs.
  18. Bingo. Any money sent by NYM does not offset the amount that goes against the salary cap. Scherzer would add about $15M to the salary cap number. Yankees are already $90M over the base threshold, so they will be paying a 60% surcharge on any salary they acquire - that's an additional $9M surcharge on Scherzer's contract. Same w/LA - $90M over base. PHI only $10M over base, but Scherzer puts them in a 12% surcharge.
  19. Because gas and oil don't cost anything over the lifetime of a gas mower...
  20. Who they should be selling: Luis Lara - while he still has value Bradley Blalock - will need to give up pitching to get pitching, and clock has already started Tyler Black - love him, but lack of defensive home makes it tough and he's the most likely to be able to bring back quality pitching with multiple years of control Eric Brown, Jr. - (see Luis Lara) One of Mitchell/Frelick - somewhat redundant Mike Boeve - Ortiz/Turang/Wilken/Black will make it tough to find AB's for him in the infield, deal from surplus Carlos Rodriguez - (see Bradley Blalock)
  21. It really is that simple. It's just not that easy.
  22. Already have a (partial) solution to that - drone shows. A number of big cities worldwide have adopted them. Denver replaced their annual July 3rd fireworks show with a drone show. It's only a matter of time before all big cities adopt a drone show for noise, injury liability, and fire hazard reasons. I assume you are referring to consumer fireworks mostly, though.
  23. Yep, It's the main reason that a replacement level pitcher will occasionally throw 7 shutout innings and a good hitter will occasionally go in a 2-26 slump and a horrible team will still win 50 games. The talent level between players is really, really small.
