  1. Brewers have 31 games left. If they go 15-16 they get to 90 wins, Cubs have 29 games left so they would need to go 24-5 to finish ahead of the Brewers.
  2. Gotta have a QB to get the WR the ball, and gotta have a good OL to give the QB time to get the ball to the WR. I pay those positions before I pay WR.
  3. I don't believe so. I know there was a guy a few years ago on the Packers PS who another team offered to sign to their active roster, so the Packers offered him a raise to league minimum salary and he stayed with the Packers on their PS. There are minimums they have to pay based on service time, but I don't believe maximums.
  4. The Packers have about $20M in cap space and there is no limit to how much they can pay practice squad players, so with that much cap space available maybe they have some handshake agreements with some guys they cut to come back at higher than practice squad minimums. Wouldn't be surprised to see Carlson or another kicker picked up on the practice squad in addition to Hale as he is exempt.
  5. Depends on what time of year. If there isn't a baseball game, and it isn't between Thanksgiving and Christmas, then the answer is generally no, but you can hop on the Red line right there at the stadium and go downtown. (I mention Thanksgiving and Christmas because during that time they have a little Christkindle market in that little field by the stadium. It's not much compared to the one downtown, but it's something. Might have an ice skating rink there in the winter.) If the weather's nice you can walk over to the lake and go for a walk. There are a few restaurants as you walk towards downtown along the lake where you can stop and get some food/drink and enjoy the view. I heard that on some Friday or Saturday nights they have some craft breweries set up shop in that field for a mini-beerfest if there isn't a home game. If you have 6-7 hours I'd recommend getting on the Red line and going downtown and check out one of the museums. Not a whole lot to do around the stadium outside of bars/restaurants.
  6. And this is why my enthusiasm over calling up Yoho and Miz is very tempered. I'm very bullish on their future, but sometimes rookies play like rookies, even in the playoffs.
  7. Does he not have the three required years of foreign language credits?
  8. MLB needs a system like the European Premiere League where the bottom graded umps get sent to AAA and the top graded AAA umps get called up.
  9. Hang the L on CB Buckner, but about the best possible outcome for a loss - starter goes 6 IP with 5 very good innings, one reliever for the final two, Ashby looks great.
  10. Reminder that Kelly was designated for assignment back in early July. He is not a prospect.
  11. Former Brewers farmhand Bowden Francis is on quite the heater. Last 3 starts: 22 IP, 5 H, 2 ER, 3 BB, 27 K Damn.
  12. Bureau of Labor Statistics revised their non-farm payroll "growth" number for the 12-months ending March of 2024 downward by over 800,000 jobs, a 30% decrease from what was initially reported. That's over 65K fewer jobs per month. Oops. Turns out, like I was saying at the time, the employment picture was not quite as rosy as some were proclaiming it to be. https://www.cnbc.com/2024/08/21/nonfarm-payroll-growth-revised-down-by-818000-labor-department-says.html
  13. Prior to this game, Mikolas had a 6.75 ERA and .966 OPS-A vs the Brewers this season.
  14. The Cardinals still have poopy pants.
  15. Aren't they also attempting a higher % from 50+ in camp than during the regular season? As previously mentioned, they are also simulating running onto the field with no timeouts left to get a kick up in time. It would be nice if the media separated those out, but that doesn't garner as many clicks.
  16. How far over the threshold are the Cubs?
  17. Not even the next injury. Ross stays on and pitches the 1st game of the DH on 8/30. For the second game, Peguero is called up to be the extra player and Hall is called up to replace the DFA'd Ross. Hall stays up, keeping his option year in-tact. Peguero goes down for 8/31 and gets called up 9/1, preserving his option.
  18. If they're in contention for a playoff spot, they may not want to risk a team chasing them for that spot claiming them or signing them. At this point in the season it's less than 20% of their salary remaining, so it isn't a big cost.
  19. And c) gives teams an excuse to not play veterans who may be approaching incentives that guarantee money or option years, which is why the player's union wanted it done away with.
  20. Sean Murphy and Zac Gallen in the 3rd, Shane Bieber in the 4th. Injuries derailed his career, but Tony Gonsolin was a heckuva 9th round pick for $2,500. Would have been something if the Brewers could have gotten Gallen or Bieber in addition to Burnes.
  21. I can smell weed a lot further away than cigarettes or vape. Maybe it's sensitivity, but I'll bet I've smelled weed at least 5x as often as I've smelled cigarettes the last five years, maybe 10x. Legalization (even if how they acquire it isn't the legal way).
  22. Or when you drive by me and I can smell it coming from your vehicle.
  23. That it's 2024 and license plates haven't been nationalized or digitized boggles my mind. (Yes, there is a company out there that does digital license plates, but they are only accepted in a handful of states at this point.) There is no need for license plates at the state level - makes it that much harder to identify stolen vehicles. And they should be digitized and ingrained into the vehicle/rear windshield. Talk about a product that is in desperate need of innovation. But how much innovation do you expect the government to come up with. At the least, nationalize it to bring economies of scale and consistency.
  24. Have to pay homage to the namesake of our legendary poster.
