    And therein lies the issue. Also, if they plan on trading for any players before the deadline, they may need to open up spots on the 40-man. Adding young prospects such as Williams means potentially having to DFA someone they don't want to. If they add a starter, a reliever, and a SS/3B, that's potentially three other players that are going to need to be DFA'd.

    One of the biggest reasons why the Brewers overachieve is because of clubhouse chemistry. The whole is greater than the sum of the parts. Bauers said the other day that the reason they are winning is because there are no egos here, everyone is on the same page. No.

    Just because you trade for a guy now doesn't mean you need to keep him. They can flip anyone they trade for now who is under multiple years of control in the offseason. Pretty clear that Pratt isn't quite there yet offensively, Bring in someone for the rest of the season, and then turn 2027 back over to Pratt. There's enough demand for SS that the Brewers shouldn't have any problem trading a good, veteran SS in the offseason even though every team knows the Brewers will want to trade him.

    This is because he is not top-10 on any list (that I'm aware of) The original post limited it to those who are top-10 in major publications.

    I think I may have been sleeping on Mark Manfredi and Matt Wood. I totally overlooked Wood on that list. Anyone have a recent scouting report on Manfredi? 59 K in 36 IP this year is pretty impressive for a LHP, his walk rate has come down, and LHP are one of the easiest to stash in a major league bullpen.

    Jett is having a down year, but he's still only 22; 4.1 years below league average. I think an astute GM is going to keep that in mind. Generally you're not going to get full value on A-ball players. Teams generally place more value on players who have made the jump to AA. With Pratt and Lara signing extensions, with needing Henderson to get them through the season, with Pena's health issues, with Fischer's monstrous power numbers, and with Made being untouchable for basically anyone not named Bobby Witt Jr. or Gunnar Henderson, this exercise is getting a lot harder.

    Just perusing some minor league stats - remember Jhonny Severino? Traded to PIT for Carlos Santana in 2023. He's tied for 15th in all of the minor leagues in HRs with 19. In A+, still only 21 years old. Former Brewers draft pick Alex Binelas has 18 for PHI's AA team. He's cut his K rate down and is sporting a cool .968 OPS, but is now 26. Maybe there's still a Jake Bauers breakout in him. I wondered who had more HRs than Fischer. Of course, it's a STL prospect, Joshua Baez, a 2nd round pick in 2021. But the 23 BB to 101 K ratio isn't looking promising.

    Being the Deputy AD at a school that was in the CFP semi-finals and finished top-3 two of the last three years? Curious, what would be a better qualification than that, and if that qualification exists, why would that person leave to come to UW?

    Split must have changed a bit in the last 17-18 years. I did Croatia and Slovenia, and the advice I got was when you get to Split, split. Of course, that was because I had the ability to go to and stay on the islands (Brac, Hvar, Korcula). That was more of what I was looking for. One thing to keep in mind for the Mediterranean area is that most of Europe gets a whole month off for "holiday", and they flood that area in July-August. I went in early September, and the weather was still nice but it was not crowded at all.

    This is a function of a delusional fan and booster base that thought it was still 1997. That program was slipping before Eichorst got there. Recruiting was already slipping and top athletes from outside of Nebraska no longer wanted to live in Lincoln. 70-31 happened before Eichorst got there. They got hung for 63 by Ohio State before Eichorst got there. You are correct in that there are a lot of parallels to WI and Chryst. Yes, Pellini had a winning record, but like Chryst it was padded by a weak schedule and a poor record against ranked teams. In Pellini's last three seasons they played a total of six non-bowl games against teams ranked at the time. He went 1-5 in those games (2-7 in his 4 years in the Big Ten). (In Chryst's last three seasons they played 9 games against ranked teams and were 2-7.) Everything I've read and heard about Pellini is that he was a top notch horse's rear end. And for all we know, it may have been their delusional boosters who still thought it was 1997 and got tired of Pellini's antics. They are on their 3rd coach since Pellini. None have turned it around. Yes, Mike Reilly was 19-19. Matt Ruhle is 19-19. Scott Frost was 13-0 in 2017 at UCF. He never had a winning season at Nebraska. The failure at Nebraska is not related to the hiring of Reilly (he was 9-4 his second season), it is something systemic that hasn't changed with the changing of the coach or the AD.
