  1. Garrison Hearst was injured his first two seasons and rushed for a total of a little over 400 yards combined. He went on to rush for almost 8,000 yards in his career, including almost 3,000 yards after missing two full seasons in the middle of his career. The Cardinals and Bengals look pretty foolish for cutting him. The Packers kept Brooks because he's the best pass blocking RB on the team. As for special teams, the Packers ranked top 10 in kick coverage. Brooks did not play on the FG units, nor did he return punts. Lloyd averaged 7.1 YPA and 17.8 YPC his junior season at USC. He has the shiftiness of Aaron Jones with more speed; he lasted until the 3rd round because of fumbling issues, but he has far more upside than Wilson.
  2. If they drafted a RB, who do you cut - Brooks or Lloyd? Or do they short another position to keep 4 RBs? It's a roster space issue, too. In recent history they rarely if ever have kept 4 RBs on the 53. They had backup RBs in Brooks (pass blocker) and Lloyd (high upside day 2 pick) who were adequate for backups. And who should they not have drafted to draft a RB instead? Highly unlikely that a 6th or 7th round pick would be any better than who they already have (the practice squad RBs were day 3 draft picks: Strong - 4th round pick, Martinez - 7th round pick).
  3. I think this is the core issue. not Super 2. We know how important defense is to the Brewers (bad defense = more pitches throws = more bad pitches thrown = more runs scored against = more pitches thrown by young pitchers who they are trying to manage workload). They want to be confident that he can adequately play 3B at a major league level.
  4. It's the baseball gods saying, "You're excused... but don't do it again."
  5. It's the NFL, you can say that about any position and player. Their backup plan for QB was Desmond Ridder then Tyrod Taylor. They didn't address backup TE, or LT. You only get so many picks and so much salary cap. This Braelon Allen guy is stuck behind Breece Hall with the Jets. The Giants have Tyrone Tracy and Cam Skattebo, and probably don't need Devin Singletary. Benson of the Cardinals is a good call. The Packers have plenty of picks in 2027 to throw a 5th at someone, if it even takes that.
  6. With Patrick not being stretched out and 3 of the next 4 lefties, I think it's DL Hall time
  7. Have to think based on the reliever chart above that Patrick is either going to start, or DL Hall will be an opener with Patrick covering a minimum of 4 innings and Hall/Patrick needing to combine for at least six.
  8. Right now they have 9 relievers. When Koenig returns they might need Patrick in the rotation, particularly if Woody, Henderson, and QP aren't ready to go.
  9. He might not make it to the All Star break. Hell, he might not make it to June.
  10. Analytics are about accuracy in predicting future results, not explaining past results. And three games is quite the small sample. Analytics will never be 100% accurate in predicting the outcome of a very small sample of games.
  11. Back to the original topic, the reason for the shuttling back and forth is because the Brewers have a number of young SPs who are talented but either haven't built up their innings yet or are coming off of injuries and still building back up and they are trying to manage the workload. Compounding that is the injuries to Priester and Woodruff who, if healthy, would make the shuttling of Gasser/Crow/Henderson much easier to manage.
  12. David Kaplan should have an epic rant tomorrow about the Cubs and their horse(bleep) effort this series.
  13. This was fun, kicking the Cubs asses all over their own ballpark
  14. Maybe that defense thing is kind of important...
  15. On an emergency pitching change after a comedy of errors and the Cubs being down 4-0 already, appropriate for Cubs fans.
  16. On the radio they just said, "This pitching change is brought to you by North Shore Adult Diapers" I can't make that up.
  17. We take back everything we've said about you, Bunty
  18. His dWAR is really going to take a hit after that one.
  19. Just like 90% of middle infielders are better 2B than SS, 90% of pitchers are better relievers than starters. That shouldn't be the deciding factor. The deciding factors should be: Is he good enough to be a MLB starter? (Yes) Is he one of the 5-6 best options for starters on the team? (Maybe) If the answer to #2 is no, he's in the bullpen. If it's yes, he's in the rotation. If it's maybe - "out getter".
  20. After the game I turned on the NFL Network because they had the Bears-Rams playoff game on. Got to see Williams throw it away in OT. It was a glorious evening.
  21. DL Hall didn't pitch yesterday, only 21 pitches on Sunday.
