    Yep, formerly Outback Bowl. Sigh, was so hoping for Nashville so I could at least have the option of driving there (and staying at a friend's house). So, no Tampa for me.

    Ironically, Seymour's last game of the season and only game at AA was against Biloxi where he went 4 IP, 1 H, 2 BB, 4 K, 64 pitches.

    I don't know how anyone can say with a straight face that FSUs win over Louisville yesterday was less impressive than Alabama's hail Mary win over 6-6 Auburn two weekends ago or Alabama's 17-3 win over 6-6 AAC powerhouse South Florida.

    As of right now the Brewers only LHRP on the 40-man roster outside of Milner are Ashby, Small, and Andrews. Ashby has major health question marks and the other two the Brewers haven't shown much confidence in nor have they given any reason for the Brewers to show much confidence in them. I could see a LHP taken as insurance in case they are unable to sign a LHRP FA. Shane Drohan of the Red Sox struggled at AAA this year primarily because he got bitten by the walk bug for some reason. Perhaps there's a pitch or two he's struggling with as a starter and shortening his repertoire will reduce the walks. Similar with Edgar Barclay of the Yankees who struggled with walks at AAA after being converted to a starter, but his numbers as a reliever in AA were really good. Ian Seymour of the Rays has been bitten by the injury bug the last two seasons after being a 2nd round pick in 2020. He looked really good in 2021 when he rose from A-ball to AAA. Maybe they Brewers can find a way for him to start the season on the injured list to limit his innings and try to squeeze 90 days on the roster towards the middle of the season. Pitched 42 innings last year, perhaps he can go 60-65 this year. Highest upside of any LHP available.

    Marquette outrebounded 38-23. That's the one weakness of that team, the lack of interior size. Smart is loyal to his players and his recruits and didn't have any open schollies for any bigs in the portal. Given how they were outrebounded and that Joplin and Kolek went a combined 2-14 from 3, I'm surprised it was as close as it was.

    Between Georgia and Alabama, they played one high quality non-conference opponent - Texas - and lost at home. Georgia played one medium quality non-conference opponent - Georgia Tech - and won 31-23. No impressive non-conference wins. Florida State didn't play Georgia Tech, but beat SEC Florida on the road with a backup QB (Rodemaker). Maybe their offense isn't playoff-caliber, but their defense sure is. Looking at the top SEC teams, I don't see any wins over any high-quality non-conference opponents except for perhaps LSU and Ole Miss beating Tulane on the road, but Tulane isn't Power-5. The top SEC teams played two highly ranked non-conference opponents and lost them both (Alabama at home to Texas, LSU blown out by Florida State on a neutral site). There are no impressive non-conference wins by the SEC to suggest that the SEC is one of the best conferences. I look at it like instant replay - if there isn't convincing evidence to keep an undefeated Power-5 conference team out, you keep the undefeated Power-5 conference team in. Alabama had their chance at home against Texas and blew it.

    I disagree with this. Situation matters a lot. Down & distance determines what the defense does, how many defenders they have in the box, how much cushion they give, etc. Formation matters, whether the offense is trying to spread out the defense, extra TEs vs 3rd/4th WR. That stat may not be a perfect stat, but the point is that a gain of 1 yard on 3rd/4th and 1 with 9 defenders in the box is a success where a gain of 8 on 3rd and 17 with five defenders in the box isn't a success. A gain of 3 yards when there are 8 defenders in the box versus a gain of 6 when there are six defenders in the box is not the same; there are going to be less holes for the RB to find in the former. Just because they are on the same team doesn't mean they are calling the same plays for them. It was well known that the Giants used Barber and Dayne very differently. I'm not saying that Dayne was great; I was responding to claims that Dayne was "pretty slow for an NFL back" and that "the reason he got those yards was because NYG invested a 1st round pick (11th overall) in him and kept feeding him the rock to try to justify it", both of which are not true.

    The reason he averaged 3.6 is because the Giants tried a thunder-and-lightning approach with Barber. Teams knew when he was in the game that they were going to run. His rushing success rate, as defined by pro-football-reference.com, was higher than Barber's during Dayne's rookie year (when he averaged 3.4/carry) and about the same in Dayne's 3rd year (when Barber had 2.5x as many carries as Dayne, when Dayne averaged 3.4/carry). Dayne hated how Fassel used him, and they had a "contentious" relationship.

    Position player(s) should not, and will not, be the centerpiece for a Burnes trade.

    Dayne ran a 4.65 at 259 lbs. Same time as Conner at 233 lbs. That's a good time for a 259 lb TE, and Dayne is only 5'10".

    That often leads to players playing unnatural positions which leads to bad defense. And Yelich and Contreras will be taking a combined minimum of two games a week as DH (combined 53 games in 2023), either leaving these good bats on the bench or playing unnatural positions, leading to bad defense.

    James Conner has had a nice career in the pros and he's 6'1", 233, and ran a 4.65 at the combine. He was a late 3rd round pick. As other have said, Allen's biggest issue is staying healthy. In the right system with the right blocking scheme, he can be an effective one-cut back similar to Conner. Dayne didn't not succeed because of a lack of elusiveness. He didn't stay in shape, Fassel first wanted him to lose weight but then turn him into a goal-line back, and he got demotivated being stuck behind Tiki Barber. Dayne had 1400 rushing yards combined his first two seasons playing 2nd string to Barber.

    Love is in the perfect spot in that he has looked good enough to warrant an extension but not quite good enough for franchise QB money. I'd be happy with a 5/$150M extension w/$100M guaranteed, and I think Love would be happy with that too. That puts him in the Stafford/Carr/Goff range as far as contracts.

    The knock on Brooks was short arms and lack of explosiveness/agility (5.87 RAS), thus why he wasn't invited to the combine.

Not sure if you have to commit to a full 12 months or if you can cancel early. For $1.99, it's probably worth that just for the WWE events (Royal Rumble, Wrestlemania).

    Two things - first, when Mordecai got hurt, they ran shorter pass plays for Locke and Dike runs their deeper routes. Then Dike got hurt early against Ohio State and has been questionable/game time decision ever since. Skyler Bell was the one who had several drops.

    I see lots of people proposing trades with BAL involving Coby Mayo. Can you help me understand why the Brewers would want Mayo - who can only play 3B or 1B and many feel might not be able to stay at 3B and have to move to 1B - when they have Tyler Black and Brock Wilken coming up? Especially in a trade for Burnes - with Woody non-tendered, don't the Brewers need to get back young pitching for Burnes? Yes, the Brewers need 3B and 1B in 2024, but where are all three of Mayo, Black, and Wilken going to play in 2025 and beyond? Assuming the Brewers trade Adames, I think the player to target is either Joey Ortiz or Jordan Westburg. One of them will be blocked by Henderson, Holliday, and the other of the two. The Brewers will need a middle infielder, preferably one who can play SS if Turang doesn't improve at the plate. The Brewers have Payamps and Williams to trade, and Baltimore needs bullpen help. A swap of bullpen for MI makes a lot of sense.
