  1. Ding ding ding! My scientific, wild-arsed guess: It's to free up 40-man spots for a Burnes or Adames (or both) trade. You don't make this trade if you're trying for one last hurrah.

I'm slightly closer than 4,000 miles. Only 71 miles for me.

Thank you for this! Woodman's also sells Rocky Rococco's pizza sauce, so I picked up both and some pan pizza crust mix and put it in a rectangular baking dish. Tasted just like Rocky's!
  4. This misses the point - who is going to take over as DC after they fire him? Second, it's not "mid-season" - there's three games left. Third, if "nobody is ever safe"... then why would someone want to work for you?
  5. 1) What is firing Barry at this point of the season going to do? Yeah, maybe there's a slim chance they make the playoffs but they're not likely going anywhere, especially with such a young team that is inexperienced in the playoffs. They weren't making the Super Bowl short of a miracle no matter what they did this season. B) If they did fire him, who would replace him? At this point in the season any good replacement is going to be employed by someone else. Who on the current staff would be an upgrade? Who would they drag out of retirement for three games? I understand the sentiment and want him gone as well, but at this point in the season the time for that is the day after the season ends. Just because MLF says that he isn't firing him right now doesn't mean that he isn't going to. In leadership, there is a fine line between disloyalty and being too loyal. If you fire people too soon/frequently, nobody good will want to come there because they'd be afraid of being fired for one bad season and then you end up with the Carolina Panthers. The other end of the spectrum is just as dangerous as waiting too long.
  6. First player in NBA history to make at least 20 field goals and 20 free throws in a game while shooting at least 70% on each. It's also the most points with fewer than 30 field goal attempts in a game. Unfortunate that part is overshadowed. For as big of a blowhard as Stephen A. Smith is, he's on the record as not buying what the Pacers are selling.
  7. It did appear to pick up in Q4. I think I got more responses in Q4 than in Q2 and Q3 combined. I think part, or most, of that is that the most experienced people were hired in Q2 and Q3 and now those people are off the market. And most have been put on hold for the holidays. For the record, I got a "hiring manager did not select you for interviews" from a talent acquisition person this morning about a job directly related to my MBA that has a salary range midpoint that is 40% less than what I made at my last job. And is on-site 5 days a week. "There was a lot of interest in the role..." That being said, I think I had a good hiring manager interview this week for a job in the industry I have the most experience in that has a salary midpoint that is 12% more than what my last job paid. It's all about industry experience right now.
  8. You seriously don't think I've done that? My skills are industry-agnostic. I've applied in dozens of industries and for jobs that paid 40% less than what I made in my last role. Lower pay/experience means more applicants and more age discrimination. The only way you get hired now is if you have deep industry experience or have worked for one of that company's biggest competitors in that industry. Hop on LinkedIn and see what people are saying about the job search now.
  9. Ask someone who is unemployed. I'm at ~300 applications over the last 6.5 months. And I have a MBA from UW-Madison (with a 3.93 GPA). Almost 40% of companies said they anticipate having layoffs in 2024 and over half say they are likely to have a hiring freeze. We're not out of the woods yet.
  10. Maybe it also signals an extension for Adames and/or Turang starting the year at AAA to find his hitting stroke, and between Adames, Monasterio, Turang, Brown, Zamora, Tyler Black, and Brock Wilken, there's no room at the inn on the left side of the infield and they want to do him a favor and give him an opportunity elsewhere. No room at 2B either with Collins and Dunn. I'm happy for him that it's the Royals and he'll have a better shot to make the majors and hopefully get enough games to get that major league pension...
  11. Ask anyone who has lived in the Eau Claire area, specifically anyone who has worked for him or tried to get him to donate to any causes.
  12. If people think that the current ownership group is or Selig was "cheap", you ain't seen nothing if John Menard buys the Brewers. He's one of the cheapest SOBs on the planet.
  13. We're not out of the woods yet. Consumer balance sheets are in worse shape, credit card balances are at an all-time high, and buy now pay later has exploded. Cuts aren't necessarily a good thing.

  15. A couple of times during the season I heard the announcers mention that prior to 2023 Adames had a long setup time when getting in the box and that he struggled early in the season to find a rhythm and make the adjustments to be in the box and ready in 12 seconds. I'd be curious to see which batters league-wide had the biggest dropoffs in the 1st half of 2023 compared to 2022 and how that compared to their average setup time. Adames's BABIP in the first half of 2023 was only .238 compared to .278 in 2022 and .331 in 2021. Adames's .217 OBP in May 2023 coincided with a BABIP of .172 in May of 2023. Batted ball luck did play a part.
  16. A spread without a QB who is an accurate passer is an even bigger waste. Most "dual-threat" QBs are single-threat QBs - they can't pass worth a damn.
  17. Reed was wide open, completely uncovered underneath. Love made up his mind pre-snap who to go to. I get that for that play to succeed you can't wait until after the receiver makes his break, but he almost didn't get in when Reed had nobody within 10 yards of him.
  18. This is exactly it. If we're casting blame, I don't know that I'd have Joe Barry even in my top (bottom?) five: Keisan Nixon fumble - directly led to a TD Jordan Love fumble - if he tucks it and goes down they have ~42 yard field goal attempt Jayden Reed losing a perfectly thrown pass that would have been a TD Walker falling down and Runyan getting run over for a 10-yard sack resulting in a long missed FG Jordan Love interception - terrible decision and throw Multiple gadget plays that took a 2nd and medium to 3rd and long
  19. It was actually not rushing. Literally, should have had more running plays to Dillon.
  20. How about an offensive holding?
  21. Now, keep his arse in the pocket
  22. Didn't work the last three times, it's sure to work the fourth
  23. Why do I not trust this to be upheld...
  24. Dillon time
  25. The missed FG was on the OL for the sack. Walker fell down, Runyan got run over.
