  1. Will the weather (cloudy, rain, lack of sun) in the Seattle area affect their effectiveness and how long it will take to pay for themselves?
  2. Most of them, yes, but not all:
  3. Eh, I think it was more about two things: Inconsistency from said closer leading up to the trade deadline (1.9 HR/9 that season, >4 ERA, going from 1.05 ERA at the beginning of July to 4.34 at the end), coupled with Not letting assets expire #2 is why I think that the Brewers will trade Burnes.
  4. 1) CC (likely) wanted out 2) CC wanted the most money he could get 3) CC wanted to be close to his family He got all three. If there is one underlying thing it is that athletes are very competitive and CC likely felt like the odds were stacked against him winning a WS in MKE. If, in his mind, he wants to be considered as one of the best managers in the game he may think he needs the hardware to prove it. He got a taste of it as a player - twice - and may feel like he needs it again to be considered "the best".
  5. Market rate is what people have actually paid. It doesn't become market rate until someone actually pays it. When Attanasio made his offer no one had paid that yet, thus it wasn't market rate, and he had no reason to believe anyone would pay that because no one ever had. He offered what would have been the highest managerial salary ever paid at the time; that's above market rate.
  6. A few other thoughts. 1) For those of you on the Attanasio "penny pinching" bandwagon, the only way that is true is if Attanasio knew what the Cubs offer was. Not only does that not appear to be true, when negotiating job offers you don't shop one offer to another company. It's a really bad look, even worse than Counsell going to the Cubs. Offers are always confidential, and it's very rare that one employer, even in baseball, knows what another employer has offered. Shopping an offer around will get other employers to back out really quickly, because they know you'll do the same to them (and if you violate confidentiality once, you'll do it again). B) My guess is that with the Woodruff injury and Miley declining the offer, he was told that the Brewers were going to trade Burnes and rebuild and that sealed his departure. 3) As others have said, do not harass him or his family about this. That being said, TP-ing his house and launching your dog's poop over his fence are fair game.
  7. Once their salaries go up by $1M-$2M per year they'll get over it quickly.
  8. Shove it up your arse, Barry.
  9. Don't take them to Five Guys... it'll be at least $60 for a family of four, and that's with the single-patty smaller burger and small fries. $25-30 isn't feeding a family of four with Chinese where I live. One large dinner portion is $17 at the two Chinese places that are within four blocks of my place.
  10. He did look good. Not sure why Runyan got benched, but Rhyan had two 1:1s against Aaron Donald in that series and he stoned him both times. Rhyan came back in during the last series for Jenkins at LG too. If you stand up Aaron Donald twice in 1:1s you don't suck. Not sure why Runyan is playing ahead of him, as Runyan hasn't been good. But what was really interesting is that Rhyan got the nod over Newman.
  11. With Miley declining his option and Woodruff's injury, the Brewers might need to spend that $11.5M on starting pitching if they want to compete as opposed to Canha. Starters aren't cheap. Free agency is just beginning.
  12. Locke looked every bit of a Freshman. Seemed like he made up his mind what he was going to do pre-snap, which led to several tackles for 3+ yard losses on runs or passes. Forcing throws to blanketed receivers. Five passes tipped or batted down - not sure if that's bad mechanics, bad decisions, or bad luck. Took two sacks when he absolutely couldn't have taken them and should have thrown it away when the first two options weren't available. Third quarter they had over 70 yards rushing, then seemed to forget about the run. 21 run plays to 41 pass plays when you're within one score isn't good when you have a freshman QB in a new system. Both Yacamelli and Acker had >4.4 ypc; the OL was finally doing their job with run blocking. I had a feeling that Vakos wasn't 100% and that was the case; no way they pass up 50 yard FGs if he's healthy. Whatever play that is where the WR loops back around behind the QB and RB needs to be ripped out of the playbook and burned. It's primary purpose is a fake to draw defenders away from the middle of the field, but you have to make it look like a fake and not jog after you get past the QB. When did an "uncatchable ball" get removed from consideration for pass interference? The PI call in the first half on UW was even worse than the one in the second half - that receiver caught the ball out of bounds. How the hell can it be catchable if the receiver caught it out of bounds?
  13. Not a terrible idea. Just need to remind him not to get tossed in a game that he is starting.
  14. Were you one of the people who were calling for Davante Adams to get cut his second training camp? That would have worked out really well. J'Mon Moore didn't survive his second training camp. Jace Sternberger was waived in the middle of his third season. Kamal Martin didn't survive his second training camp. Amari Rodgers was released in the middle of his second season. But, the narrative...
  15. Fashanu didn't look good against OSU and Tuimoloau. Got pushed back into the QB several times. I think those comparisons have cooled a bit, and some mocks have him slipping down to mid-end 1st. PFF has a 78.6 grade overall on him, with a 59.1 grade against OSU. Alt has an 89.9 grade, 69.5 against OSU.
  16. And so the bottom of the 40-man roster churn begins. Claim a player for org depth, DFA him if someone better comes along.
  17. Few more oddities about Rea that may suggest that the Brewers think that they can get more out of him. His OPS-A on the first pitch to a batter was 1.121 (.758 SLG); he gave up 7 HRs to batters on the first pitch. Different strategy on the first pitch or maybe confidence in different pitch types for the first pitch can make that first pitch less predictable. With a 3-1 count he had a 1.786 OPS-A; while it was a small sample of only 14 PAs, he walked them 10 of the 14 PAs. Of the other four, hitters were only 1-4. Confidence in his stuff, and being able to throw strikes on 3-1, is something that can be improved as well to keep more runners off of the bases. He had a .836 OPS-A with runners on base vs. .673 OPS-A with nobody on; keeping runners off of the bases is key for him.
  18. Funny thing about him this past season is that his OPS-A in innings 4-6 was way better than his OPS-A in innings 1-3 (.487 vs .876). Once he gets through the 3rd inning he's golden.
  19. Nelson Cruz is the poster child for why you shouldn't give up in prospects after a couple hundred ABs in the majors.
  20. Agreed on Dillon. And not just the O-line botching blocking assignments, but the TEs too (all rookies, no Marcedes Lewis). Someone had a RB stat - I think it was Pro Football Outsiders, but they are now defunct - that was the RB equivalent of pass rush/block win rate. It classified runs as "wins" or "success" factoring in things such as down/distance. Don't remember if how many defenders in the box was factored in, but I know that if it was 3rd/4th and 1 and the RB got one yard it would be classified as a "win". Any run for a 1st down or TD regardless of distance was a win. Thus a RB could have a low YPC but have a high win rate depending on situation. I saw a tweet on this either late last season or early in the offseason and both Jones and Dillon were top 5 in the league last year.
  21. Young has only played a total of 19 games over the last three seasons and 34 games total over his four year career. Total of 14 sacks for his career of which over half came during his rookie year in 2020. He's more name than actual production. Sweat has played in 51 games with 28.5 sacks over the last four seasons. Sweat is the better, healthier, more reliable player and is worth more on the trade market.
  22. No, if you click on the link you would see that I was responding to this question:
  23. Given Purdue's recent tradition with >7-footers, I'd be very surprised if he chooses UW.
  24. Called the Douglas trade. Helluva pickup signing him off of Arizona's practice squad, keeping him for two years, then flipping him for a swap of 3rd and 5th round picks. According to Rich Hill's draft value chart, the difference in slots as of right now is 30 points or the equivalent of the #109 overall pick (assuming a few 3rd round comp picks, a high 4th round pick). Using PFF's rankings and where their picks currently are, both of which will likely change, I'd be pretty pleased with this: #7) Joe Alt, OT, Notre Dame #39) Calen Bullock, S, USC #48) Jonathan Brooks, RB, Texas #71) Kingsley Suamatia, OT, BYU or Sedrick Van Pran, C, Georgia #88) Quinyon Mitchell, CB, Toledo #106) Lathan Ransom, S, Ohio State 4th (comp for Lazard): Cooper Beebe, G, Kansas State
  25. This is exactly it. Well, one knee to Bakhtiari and one knee to Jenkins. The injuries to those two are why they didn't go anywhere in the 2021 playoffs. And no Tonyan. And Alexander just off of IR and limited to 15% of defensive snaps. And Z-Smith just coming off of IR and limited to 1/3rd of snaps. One WR isn't filling all of those holes.
