As of right now they have 13 on schollie plus Lindsey is on a NIL deal in lieu of scholarship. That's probably what would happen with Gilmore. They'll do that for an unsure situation (i.e., both have a player who might leave but they aren't sure if he will AND high mutual interest from a recruit/transfer but not sure what school that kid is going to choose), but not for a deliberate situation (i.e. just sending out offers looking to upgrade, i.e. "Creaning"). And they won't get to a point where they have to put several kids on NIL deals because of too many scholarship players, thus why I think they knew that someone (i.e. Gus) was leaving. As homer mentioned, sounds like they knew as Gus wasn't traveling with them. I don't know if he's transferring; he might just be leaving the team to focus on his health/life choices. Chances are he's been on the bench for home games so as not to cause any distractions about why he isn't there.

Yeah, with Freitag and Robison signed I had a feeling that they knew that someone wasn't coming back next year, be it Gus or someone else, as I don't believe they had a schollie available even if Storr turns pro.

Certainly the way that Joe Ross has been pitching. At this point I don't see Ross as more than long relief. I'm guessing that with off days on 3/29, 4/1, and 4/4 they aren't going to need a 5th starter much less a 6th starter until the 2nd week of April (April 14th would likely be the first day a 6th starter would be needed) and we'll see Gasser by April 14th.

David Rosenberg of Rosenberg Research was just on CNBC. If you strip shelter (housing/rent) out of the CPI, the YoY inflation rate is 1.8%. PPI YoY is similar. Shelter is ~30% of the CPI. While the Fed prefers PCE, CPI is 71% of the PCE and PPI is 12% and the numbers mirror each other fairly closely. Shelter is only 16% of PCE, but who only spends 16% of their expenditures on housing? I think CPI better measures the consumer. He believes that there will still be a recession and it is already starting. As stated earlier in this thread, higher interest rates push rents higher. Higher interest rates lead to less home purchase affordability which leads to increase in demand for rent which leads to higher rents.

Somewhat related, but the PGA really needs to look at their schedule. Phoenix Open the same weekend as the Super Bowl? TPC Sawgrass the same weekend as college basketball conference tournaments? The Phoenix Open last year, when the Super Bowl was also being played in Phoenix - was embarrassing. Half the stands on the 16th filled, if that. I'm sure that hotel rooms because of the Super Bowl were ridiculous if they were even available. Need to move both of those a week earlier (or Phoenix open a week later) and replace with lesser tourneys to get more fan engagement.

Their 3-point % given up (28.8%) is 5th in the nation, but 2-pt % given up is 100th in the nation and they're 242nd in blocks, and that's playing in the Sun Belt. I think that plays into UW getting the ball inside to Wahl and Crowl. They're also 238th in FT%. Their tallest guy is listed at 6'9", 207, and he's averaging 0.4 blocks/game. They have a guy listed at 6'8", 245, and he's averaging 0.3 blocks/game and only 4.2 rebounds/game. They're 152nd in personal fouls/game. UW needs to work the ball inside to Wahl and Crowl and to have AJ Storr can get in the lane and elevate over them, and then can get them in foul trouble.

Really surprised to see Nebraska and Wisconsin in the same half of the same region. Usually they try to separate conference opponents to at least different halves of the same region. Nebraska I think got jobbed in their seeding; Nebraska and Houston will be a really good game. Illinois is rolling. Too bad they're in the same region as UCONN. I think it's 50/50 that they can beat UCONN. Illinois has so many weapons and size/length. Clingan won't be able to push around Dainja, and Dainja can beat him down the court easily.

Why would a team have to give up more this year to not get their choice of QBs than a team gave up last year to get their choice of QBs?

According to the Rich Hill draft value chart, the Viqueens could get #3 for #11 and #23 and still be an overpay of about a late 2nd/early 3rd. In theory, they could give up #11 and #23 and get #3 and #68. They would likely have to give up next year's #1 with #11 and #23 in order to move up to #2. Maybe we'll get lucky and the Viqueens will be desperate enough to do just that.

I hate to say this, but I think that the draft is shaping up pretty good for the Bears and their needs. Fashanu should be there at #9, or they can move back a few spots, pick up an extra pick or two, and take Fautanu and play him anywhere on the line. Or they could move back a few spots and address DL with their choice of Murphy or local guy Newton. Or they could take their choice of edge rusher in Verse, Robinson, Turner, or Latu. There's really no need for them to stay at #9 if someone wants to trade up. They can move back and still address any of their needs; maybe not with their first choice but still a good player.

It wasn't just games missed. They had to limit his carries in most of the games that he played the first 13 weeks of the season last year. Prior to week 14 he only had two games with 10 or more carries. That also counts towards "injury history".

Exaggerating a bit, aren't we? Literally half of their games it will only be 8-16 runs per game. -
Add to that 2.5M migrants coming into the country last year, most of whom need to find some place to live if they're not sent back and can get a work permit, and that pushes the bottom of the rent spectrum up.

The tournament committee has been good about understanding when teams have been missing star players and how that has affected their records. The biggest threat to them dropping to a 4-seed would be the teams immediately below them in the rankings (Duke, Auburn, Illinois, Baylor) sweeping through their conference tournaments with ease. Illinois has looked like that lately, but all four of those teams are in different conferences so it could be possible. If Kolek is healthy it might be good for him to get a few minutes to not get rusty, but there isn't a need for him to play if he isn't ready.

And that's true. But with the number of people and departments involved in the creation of a contract - not just the GM, but finance, legal, etc, it's hard to cover up all of those digital fingerprints (contracts aren't written with pen and paper) and/or not have a whistleblower or someone willing to spill the beans to a reporter. Even if it's just "agreeing to terms", finance and others need to be involved to see at least how it affects their salary cap and organizational fit.

I guarantee that Rosenhaus didn't sit there twiddling his thumbs once he found out that Jones was going to be released. I'm sure that he immediately sent a message to the GMs of every other team as soon as he was informed. It's really, really difficult in this day and age of digital fingerprints to have a "not technicallly legal" conversation about a contract with someone and have other people not know about it. I'm sure there are discussions with known free agents whose contracts are expiring prior to the legal tampering period, but they're going to be free agents so nobody cares. I think people will care a lot if there is a discussion about someone who is under contract and not scheduled to be a free agent. And if an agent is willing to do that with a player on another team... he will likely do that with a player on your team, and that won't sit well. It's not a one-way street where that happens just with one team and other teams won't care.

The legal tampering period is for known free agents. Teams know for a month who is going to be a free agent, thus why the contracts are ready. I guarantee they aren't preparing hundreds of contract offers for players who may potentially be released but are still under contract.

With the unemployment rate unexpectedly jumping despite a higher than expected jobs report (which have consistently been revised downward several months later), I think that two rate cuts are much more likely than a rate increase. Hopefully the Fed realizes that the unemployment rate has been artificially suppressed by 2.5M immigrants coming into the country seeking work permits last year, and that number isn't slowing down. The US population grew by 1.6M last year, with 2/3rds coming from immigrants (most of whom are in their working years) as opposed to births, who won't be in the work force for ~20 years.

Yes, 1) because it's tampering if they do, B) if Jones or Rosenhaus makes any reference to his market value they are going to suspect tampering and report it to the League, and 3) there was no indication that the Packers were going to release Jones until after they signed Jacobs, and nobody knew they were going to sign Jacobs until the day they released Jones. There was very little window for the Viqueens to make any offer, much less anticipate Jones being released as opposed to the hundred other players who were released that day. It's also possible that the Viqueens made a quick, above-market offer for Jones because Jones kind of knows their playbook.
