Kotsay playing 10 games in CF when you have perhaps the best defender in the league on the bench is unbelievably dumb. Just like if Yuni winds up starting 10 games at SS over both Segura and Gonzalez, I will consider that a very dumb decision. Yes, I know in the grand scheme of things it probably won't cost us a chance at the postseason or anything. My whole point of this was Roenicke is obviously gonna give a Yuni B type vet a lot more opportunities than a journeyman scrub like Murphy. And I realize that most pro sports coaches are the same way and do suboptimal things all the time. That doesn't make it any less frustrating. Look no further than the Milwaukee Bucks for a recent example. They just lost out on a very good young player in Tobias Harris because both idiot coaches played a "proven" vet in Marquis Daniels over him and they had no idea what the even had. Imagine if we would have given McGehee's spot in 2009 to a Yuni-esqe vet. We would have never gotten those two dirt-cheap, productive seasons out of him. Signings like this are a waste of a money and there's absolutely no upside to it. I hate crap like this.

Mark Kotsay was a 4th OF who played over Gomez whose defense gets heavily downgraded in value playing RF and Kotsay was a better hitter at that point than Gomez was. That is really trying to stretch things using this as your argument. This is a complete non issue. Do you remember when Kotsay started several games in CF, in Petco no less, when that hadn't been a viable position for him in nearly a decade? As you said, Gomez' value was basically all his glove at the point. There was no reason for him not to play in spots like that. Also, if we still had a Kotsay on the roster last year, who knows if Gomez is given the chance to play every day and break out.

Ennder, I'm not arguing about 2011. I agree with you that Yuni was the best option we had on the roster at SS that year, but still, that's not really saying much. You can pretty much get a Gonzalez in free agency every year for a cheap 1 yr commitment and he's twice the player. All reports said that DM wanted Yuni coming back in the trade. And now that you bring it back up, Melvin having Yuni (No D Ok bat) Counsell (All D no Bat) and Wilson (No D No Bat) as the SS options was a major fail. What I'm saying is now that our 24th/25th man is a "name" player, he's probably gonna be seeing more time than he should or more than a normal end of the bench guy would. I'd rather stick some no name scrub/unproven player down in that spot so our manager isn't even tempted.

Briggs, I think you can agree much bigger reasons for winning all those games in 2011 was having a good rotation that stayed pretty healthy, having two relief aces to shorten games, two mvp candidates, half a season of a allstar 2nd baseman, and basically a lot of good fortune. Yuni was more or less just along for the ride. I will agree with you that he wasn't as bad as I was expecting, but a guy like A Gonzalez certainly would of been a noticed upgrade. Roenicke playing Yuni over more deserving players because we won a lot of games with him is exactly what I'm afraid of.

The problem isn't that Yuni is any worse than Donnie Murphy. In fact, he's probably better. The problem is if Murphy is the 25th man, he's gonna ride the pine because he's Donnie Murphy and RR has no familiarity with him. Now if Yuni is the 25th man, you just know there's no way RR can contain himself because he has the great, proven Yuniesky Betancourt on the bench, and he's a GREAT RBI MAN when there's a runner on 3rd with less than 2 down, or he made that GREAT DOUBLE PLAY a few yrs back, so he should obviously get a few days in at SS to keep Segura fresh even though you have a much more capable backup SS already on the roster. Point being, when you have a manager like RR, you need to idiot proof the roster (kinda like what Beane did with Howe and traded all the crap players he would play).

That's where I'm pretty much at. If Redick would be a key cog to a 2nd round run, I think I could at least justify the trade given the FO's track record of doing almost nothing right. So that would be a major success for them. But otherwise, what did the trade really gain them? They were gonna get the 8th seed anyways outside of a colossal collapse. It's just so frustrating that the Bucks could be so inept to not even give their 20 yo 1st pick a fair shot before trading him for a guy we're probably gonna have to massively overpay to keep for more than this season. It's not like LRMAM or friggin Marquis Daniels were lighting the world on fire either. Whether or not you think Harris is just stuffing stats down in Orlando, you have to admit this. If he continues to avg 15/6 on really good efficiency for the rest of the year, the Magic could easily turn around and trade him for a pick in the 3-10 range. Easily.

Me too. Most rookies are terrible defenders so I'm not too discouraged. I'm just surprised he isn't on the same level as Larry during his rookie year. Hopefully he'll train with him in the offseason and add about 20 lbs of bulk.

Yup. Once again, no one here dislikes JJ Redick (or ISH SMITH) as a player. I love the guy and wanted us to pursue him as a free agent in the off season. But you don't give up on a guy who at 20 yrs old already scores the ball efficiently, plays your biggest position of need, and seems to have a good attitude. Especially when you could have just outright signed the guy you traded for in a couple months time. Hammond is sometimes lauded for his drafting ability, but if you break it down.... 08: Alexander (might be the worst lotto pick of the 2000's) 09: Jennings (hey, if you're a box score whore you probably like this pick. but he's not a good player at all. he'll either walk for nothing in the offseason or get overpaid. Good stuff.) 10: Sanders (great pick. should have been on the floor over drew gooden last year but i guess that's more of skiles fault) 11: Harris (traded after not given a fair shot. will probably come back to haunt us) 12: Henson (like the pick, but so far he's shown the opposite of the pre draft scouting reports. he's a really bad defender and a really nifty post player)

If the Bucks wind up giving Redick the most minutes out of the 3, I will give them some credit for the deal. But it's almost a lock that he'll be given the least amount of minutes of the 3, because they're the Bucks, and almost everything they do is sub optimal. Right. The depth chart has been laughably bad since the first tip. And after this deal, it's now worse. We now have a nice backup sg but no backup pg! Also, Udrih is probably a better point than Jennings, and definitely a better point than Ellis, so getting rid of him is probably going to mostly offset the addition of Redick. Jennings is not a quality starting pg. He belongs as a spark plug bench guy. Ellis has been unbelievably bad as Buck after being mostly a net neutral player as a GSW. Getting rid of him would have been the ultimate addition by subtraction. Hey, I'm fine with trading Udrih. If they're trying to win now, they're going to fail pretty miserably with no competent backup pg, and I'm rooting for this to blow up in their faces. So I take that as a positive. Dalembert, Duns, or LRMAM would have EASILY brought back late firsts from contenders, which at least would have brought in prospects, which then allow you to trade for a guy like Harden when then rare opportunity presents itself. The way you feel about Tobias now is the same way 99% of people felt about Sanders at this time last year. If they would have traded Sanders in a deal like this last year, Hammond is out of a job and the Bucks look like the morons they actually are. Harris showed he can score efficiently and he's 20. It's not gonna look good in retrospect. And that's not even to bring up they could have just as easily signed Redick in the offseason without giving up any assets.

Puzzling move. Hammond just burned several assets to get a guy we'd have no problem signing in the offseason. And left guys like Dalembert, Dunleavy, and Ellis on the roster who will now walk for nothing in the offseason. Hambone = the absolute nut low. Redick is instantly our best overall guard, but how much does it really matter when you still have Monta Ella and Brandon Jennings most likely taking the bulk of the minutes and shots? Hilarious that those 3 are the only guards on the roster.

The Warriors got Barnes out of that deal too. That alone tips the deal in the W's favor. I don't think some of you guys are grasping how bad Monta has been as a Buck. At best, we were getting a net neutral player in that deal. He's been much worse than that though. I like Udoh a lot but he was completely exposed by Robin Lopez tonight. He's a good 20-25 mpg bench big. Could probably fetch a 1st round pick from a contender. Also, I'm now at the point I have been for about 4 out of the last 5 years with this team: hoping for losses. We need a stud player. Brandon Jennings is not that guy. He's an avg starting pg at best.

Big Green Lake. Massive. Up to 230 feet deep. Crystal clear water that gets up to 80 degrees so it's awesome for swimming. Good fishing. Gotta make the big bucks to live on there though.

Monta has been unbelievably inefficient as a Buck. He hasn't helped us score. In a meaningful way, at least. The assists I'll give you. He's an above average creator for a 2 guard. Everything else he's below average at.

Awesome game. Can't believe they came back. Can't believe I didn't turn it off. Anyone else notice that when Monta Ellis guarded Rip Hamilton the last two nights he basically turned back time and made Rip look like the player he was 10 years ago? Doron Lamb comes in and basically shuts him down. Ellis has added nothing positive to Milwaukee since the trade. Nothing. They need to find a way to get rid of him.

The reason we struggle to score is because we employ low ts% chuckers in the backcourt. I can live with Jennings because he's an ok defender and a much better outside shooter, but I can't stand watching Monta play. An efficient, low usage SG would do wonders for this team. ANYTIME Monta shoots a long 2 it's a loss for the Bucks. Smart teams like SA, Mia, and OKC employ their whole defensive strategy around that premise.

I too watched a lot of the league pass during the trial period, and one thing that stood out to me was the league seems to be on a much more even playing field this year. Maybe the new CBA? One of Miami, SA, LAL, or OKC will win the title, the cream rises to the top in basketball, but I think the games will be much more enjoyable this year. That being said, I'd still be shocked if the Bucks finish above .500 this year. It's been a nice start but I think they're a lotto team.

Cars under 10k are bringing high NADA value or even over NADA value. That's just the way the market is right now, unfortunately. Your best bet is going to cars.com and searching similar inventory and see if they'll beat or match a price. To answer your question, Civic for sure. Early era Kia's are junk. Plus, you'll double your gas mileage.
