  1. Nix has that dangerous combo of having no plate dicipline with a low contact rate. But hey, at least he's ripped.
  2. Yep, that's about it. And I guess drive in a runner with 2 outs. I'm really jinxing the Crew today, so I'll just leave for the rest of teh game.
  3. How is that called a ball? It wasn't even really on the corner.
  4. Very nice approach today. Seems like we're not swinging at anything out of the zone.
  5. He should have ran hard out of the box instead of looking at if the 2B got it.
  6. I'm not sure if it's legal or not, but my HS (Oshkosh West) used the Wu-Tang symbol for a W on hooded sweatshirts and t-shirts and had to stop because of copyright infringement. http://lh3.google.com/wdsimmons/R02vncJA82I/AAAAAAAACjY/d5xHfF13He8/s800/wu-tang-clan-04.gif
  7. Schierholz should be kicked off the team, as an idiot like that doesn't belong in the Olympics. Ridiculous. He's very lucky he didn't seriously injure the catcher, who wasn't even blocking the plate.
  8. I'm not gonna lie, I thought about adding this exact reply for you just to save time.
  9. I'm assuming this is his last batter regardless. Hopefully he has a efficient start against Pitt. Edit: I assumed wrong.
  10. Ray Durham himself says he can't play everyday anymore. Starting one over the other wouldn't cost the Brewers even one game the rest of the way. He's having a nice night, but let's not get crazy, 2 of his hits were groundballs that found holes.
  11. An Indians friend of mine tells me Sabathia would often refuse to come out of games.
  12. I don't know why they rushed him back. Even in BP, he looked like he was in a lot of pain. He doesn't look like his normal self, even on his homerun he took an abbreviated swing. It was just a monster hanging curve that very few would miss.
  13. FWIW, the last GQ I read knocked these shirts. I do agree these shirts show the power of great advertising. Tristarscoop is spot on with how a lot of the guys wearing these shirts were making fun of "nerds" in high school for wearing something similar. I'd say the only difference is these shirts are t's rather than button-up. I always thought they looked a bit odd, but I don't feel the need to knock anyone's clothing style.
  14. Since it's swollen, I expect to see him Wednesday vs. the lefty, giving him two full days off.
  15. It seems like an odd comparison, but both poker and baseball involve a lot of the same types of probability scenarios. One of the best cash game players in the world, Gabe Thaler, once said the two remind him a lot of each other. If you think you hear small sample size a lot on a baseball board, go to a poker board. Bad players that win a lot of money tend to continue their bad habits and eventually as their sample size gets larger, their results tend to get closer to their expected value. The same could be said of Maddon's decision. If you could recreate the same scenario thousands of times, you'd probably start to be able to see that the IBB is not the right choice and would cost the team more runs in the long run.
  16. You make some good points MJLiverock, but I still can't defend this. A Marlon Byrd bloop double at worst puts runners on 2nd and 3rd, leaving the Rangers only needing a single to win it. I think the IBB walk just put the Rays in a vulnerable spot. Wheeler could have made two great pitches to the next two batters, and still could have lost because of check swing double and ten-hopper up the middle, or some other luck based hit.
  17. I don't know how many people saw this but last night Ray's manager Joe Maddon elected to have Grant Balfour IBB Josh Hamilton with his club leading 7-3, bottom of the 9th with 2 outs. It did wind up working, as he brought in Dan Wheeler to face Marlon Byrd, which resulted in a strikeout. But in hindsight, I think it's a horrible move by the Ray's skipper. Josh Hamilton is a very good hitter, but he still makes an out 63% of the time. I know he's afraid of the grand slam there, but IF that happens you're facing Byrd with no one on and 2 outs; most likely going into extra innings. I think the odds of Byrd hitting a bases clearing double after the IBB are probably greater than a Hamilton HR. Also, why not do the intentional unintentional walk, trying to get Hamilton to at least chase a pitch and hit himself into an out? I think the only way you could justify this is if you're facing 2002-03 Barry Bonds. (edit: changed thread title to make it a fit for this forum rather than the non-Brewers in-game thread --1992)
  18. Was he older (70+)? I've had an elderly man do this in front of me at the grocery store and was completely oblivious that the people behind him were ticked off.
  19. Best of luck sir. You seem to have a great attitude, which can do nothing but help. Edit: Really great complete liquid multi-vitamin. Liquid so it absorbs better and doesn't make you nauseous. Good mixed in with a breakfest smoothie. Link: http://www.vitacost.com/Liquid-Health-Complete-Multiple
  20. That is a very nice deal. I haven't bought a system since the original Playstation, but that might be too good to pass up. Can you just cancel the credit card right after you pay it off?
  21. Weeks is a better hitter than Durham. He's at .375/.432 since the ASB, which is a small sample, but also the exact line he put up last year, so it's much more in line with what's expected, rather than his miserable first half. He's still striking out too much, usually in deep counts though. I could take the strike-outs if his walk rate was more like his 2007 rate. That being said, his turns on the DP is just such a liability. He's pretty much adequate at every aspect of defense outside of that, so it is frustrating to watch. Conclusion: I think this is a minor blow to the team, with Yost splitting time between the 2 players perfectly since the trade.
  22. Next 9 games against CIN, WAS, and PIT for the Cubs. Pretty unfortunate. Let's just hope we can keep a lead on the wildcard.
  23. Judging by Braun's wincing during BP and 3 pretty crummy at-bats last night and today, I'd have to say I would have probably started Kapler today.
