  1. This is from the JJ for Clay Buchholz thread in the rumor section. From Buster Olney today....(I'm not sure if JJ will pass thru waivers however)... "2. Heard this: The Brewers' J.J. Hardy has not passed through waivers yet, and given Boston's need for a shortstop, you wonder if he would be a natural target for the Red Sox if Milwaukee -- now six games out in the NL Central -- decides to wave the white flag later this month. Boston and Milwaukee had some talks before the trade deadline about Hardy, who is hitting .228 with 11 homers and 45 RBI, but had a major disagreement at that time about the shortstop's value: The Brewers wanted top-of-the line pitching, and the Red Sox thought that was too expensive, given his poor numbers this year, his streaky nature and his escalating salary (he's making $4.65 million this year and is arbitration eligible). The Brewers, of course, have a shortstop in waiting in Triple-A, in Alcides Escobar." Not sure how JJ would slide all the way to Boston, you have to assume another team would claim him but if he did, Boston's huge need for a shortstop and their sliding way behind the Yankees and being tied for the WC could make them very willing to deal.
  2. I am glad the Brewers are asking for top of the line pitching for Hardy. I do not think they are going to get it but it sounds like they do not want to sell too low. If the could get a number three type pitcher for JJ I would be very happy. The Brewers need some 3 type pitchers. If Bush can stay healthy next year, and Parra can continue to pitch like he has in July and August where his ERA is in the low 4's the Brewers could have a decent rotation with Yo, Bush, Parra, a number 3 type guy and I guess Suppan who before his injury was probably a decent number 5 pitcher.
  3. Very true. Gamel and Lawrie have really disappointed down the stretch. It could be expected with Lawrie playing internationally for Canada and then his first full-season of pro ball, but Gamel has lost his swing going down to the minors. Other bats who have struggled include Katin (boy did he fall off), Cain (his comeback has been rough), Green (struggling a ton right now) and pretty much all of Wisconsin. The pitching has not been much to write home about. Peralta not pitching recently, Braddock going down, Ordorizzi being shut down for a bit, Anundsen getting hit hard recently, and Arnett not setting the world on fire has made of a rough end of the season. The bright spots down the stretch that come to mind have been Lucroy, Gindl and Schafer. All three have solidfied themselves as solid prospects. Salome's bat has come around as well. Escobar has been solid all year. Prince has looked nice to start off his pro career. And then bullpen guys like Wooten and Axford have looked solid. And Mark Rogers continues to keep me on his comeback bandwagon.
  4. Lucroy's OPS is now just south of .800 at .790 which is .50 points higher than when this thread started under 4 weeks ago. His last three months have been over .800 and his August although just 9 days in has been terrific. In 21 games since the all-star break he is hitting .329 with an OBP of .447 and an OPS of .990 all while still walking more than he is striking out. Lucroy's peripherals showed that he was do for an uptick in a lot of categories and that is what we are seeing. While he is not going to end the season with the overall numbers we were anticipating he is bringing them up there pretty close. AAA catcher is going to be very interesting next year. I would love Lucroy to get bumped up soon especially if Salome is going to get a September call up,
  5. Gameday made that one look well outside. Did Braun argue the call?
  6. I brought this up a little while ago. The reason would most likely be his .198 BABip at Huntsville and he also has a very high ground ball rate at home.
  7. J.J. will be a Type A free agent next season so the team we trade him to will get a year of JJ and a chance to sign him long-term or gets two picks for him. That is worth much more than Looper. JJ could be packaged with some like Salome to get more in return as well. MLB GM's are smart enough to not look at just one season. They will see that the year before JJ had the 4th best OPS's of any SS and the year before he had the 8th, add into that he is at worst an above average fielder and more likely a top 10 fielding SS easily. His value even after a down year is much better than people give him credit for. Sure this year was rough but guys bounce back all the time. Now he wont net an ace but if you package him with a guy like Salome you could next a very nice pitcher to go with Yo, Parra, Bush and Suppan.
  8. I actually agree with you on Lucroy. Now would be a great time to bump Lucroy as Salome was nicked up for a while and has struggled as a whole with the bat this year. Unless Money is just overly harsh on his players we know Salome's defense wont be ready next year, so it would be nice to know exactly what we have with Lucroy. I feel like one, hopefully Salome, gets moved with Hart or Hardy for pitching this fall.
  9. I hope Hardy gets hot to end the season bumping his trade value for the off-season. Hart could get moved but for that to happen I would like McGehee and Heether to gets some looks at RF. I would also like to see Cat brought back.
  10. After this AAA season Salome has not shown he is ready to start next year. Lucroy is still at least 1 year away. Trading for Snyder could allow the Brewers to deal Salome and then let Lucroy spend at least one maybe two years in AAA.
  11. I disagree if you are replacing Kendall (Salome) and Hardy's (Escobar) production, as well as adding a bat as potent as Gamel's should be. ETA - When you have Braun and Fielder (who at times are the only ones in the entire lineup producing anyway), we could make this work a lot easier than almost any team in baseball. Angel Salome has an OPS of .710 in AAA right now. He may be a better hitter than Kendall whose OPS is just horrible, but his defense is not major league ready according to Money. I really think next years Brewers have a stop gap catcher as we wait to see if Salome's defense gets better and if Lucroy can get his OPS back in the .800 plus area. Back to the question if we are worried about Gamel, I am going to say that I am. He struck out more than I expected in the pros and now he is striking out like crazy in AAA. Hopefully he can end his season well so that he has confidence going into Spring Training next year.
  12. Welch with a very tough 5th. Giving up 5. Lucroy is 2 for 2 with a triple. He has also walked once. His last couple months have been very good. Scarpetta has had a decent afternoon. 5 innings 2 ER, but 3 more walks to go with 6 K's
  13. Those are good points but Salome's struggles this year and two other years with an OPS around .800 seem to make his crazy good year with an unsustainable BABip look a little like a small fluke. I am rooting for him to succeed, but I suspect he is more of an .800ish OPS guy with poor defense than a .900 OPS guy whose offense makes up for his poor defense. For as hard as people have been on Lucroy's lack of power this year his OPS is .60 higher than Salome's. With his defense being better I am putting more hope in him than Salome.
  14. I really think Salome is vastly overrated by some on this board. His bat needs to be very very good to make up for his glove, but over the past 4 years his OPS has been above .806 once. He had a BABip last year of .400 which inflated his numbers last year. He had a great year regardless of his BABip but he really has never had another standout year. They have been good but not good enough to make up for poor defense. I think next year should be a free-agent catcher and then hope Lucroy is ready power-wise or that Salome's defense has move to just a little below average.
  15. Except that Wilson was traded to them on the 29th and it sounded like this was more of a deadline day (31st) move (I could be wrong though). It could have easily involved Gamel and not a SS.
  16. Actually Inman got demoted to AA. He had a nice start there with 6 IP and no runs
  17. Actually Inman got demoted to AA. He had a nice start there with 6 IP and no runs
  18. A king Felix deal could easily happen this off-season as well. There was no real rush to get this done by the deadline since it is probably a deal that would help the Crew make the playoffs next year not this year because 4 games behind 2 different teams is a lot to make up.
  19. Crawford's last 4 years have been well above those averages except last year. His first two years are weighing the rest of his numbers down. Corey's numbers on the other hand are skewed by one very good year and his past two years have seen a lower OPS than all but one on Crawford's last 6.
  20. Do you really think Hart and Crawford are near each other in production? Crawford is better than Hart in almost every category. I do not know if you are saying that the Rays would not do it but I think the Crew would be crazy not to. Crawford would look great at the top of the order in front of Weeks, Braun, and Fielder.
  21. The minor league forum is showing that Del Howell is know signed.
  22. Cant you say the same thing for Lucroy? He has an OPS over .800 the last two months. I do not think the age difference is much of an issue on the two either. They are 5 days apart in age, however Salome has 3 more years in pro-ball compared to Lucroy. That is three more years with wood bats so I would say they are about equal age wise. I just do not see why Salome is an above average offensive catcher yet Lucroy is at best a backup. In down years for both of them Lucroy is putting up slightly better numbers. Salome only has only one year above rookie ball better than Lucroy's seasons. Salome's BABip last year of .400 probably has a lot to do with why his numbers were so crazy last year. This year even with a high BABip (.332) he still has a poor OPS. I think Salome's insane year last year has made people look at him as a little better hitter than he really is, that combined with his poor defense makes him hard to project. Lucroy has solid defense, not great, but outside of the first two months of this year he has been a consistent above 800 OPS guy which is solid for a catching prospect. One thing about Lucroy that is interesting to me is his terrible home numbers compared to on the road. He is just amazingly unlucky at home (a BABip of .198...that is almost unfathomable). His OPS on the road is .909 and at home it is .570.
  23. No one is say Lucroy should be playing in the majors right now so MLE's do not make much sense. I am much more concerned with what his MLE's are when he is in AAA next year. Most catchers do not come in at as young of age as other position prospects, they take a little longer to develop. Lucroy just turned 23 so he will also be 23 at the start of next year, this is his second full year of pro-ball so it is not like he is old. You are underrating Lucroy so much. He actually had a better OPS than Salome A+. Lucroy is having a down year offensively, but he still has a better OPS than Salome does. AA was Salome's only really good year since low A ball.
  24. Not to mention Lucroy has had an OPS over .800 the last two months. His BABip in play is starting to creep back toward .300 (still around .280 from what I can find). His career low for BABip in play is .330. With a little more luck (I guess with a little less lack of luck) he would be hitting about .280 and with his power coming back the last two months I think it is hard to compare him to Kendall.
  25. Not likely with his 6 plus ERA. He had a couple nice starts but has been getting hit really hard.
