  1. Jonathan Lucroy has two more hits on the night, a single and a double. His average sits at .269 now and his OPS is now over .800. Not bad after his horrendous start. I would like to see what he can do in AAA.
  2. The whole thing stinks of top-down meddling. Worse, the top-down meddlers are clearly flailing. I think, after Ned Yost lost his job last year, we should expect this kind of irrational upper managament - making moves just to make them. Hmm... I still don't see the point of making the offense WORSE when it is and has been the pitching all along that needed retooling.Ned Yost was simply lucky to keep his job as long as he did. None of these moves were moves just to make moves. Hall was DFA'ed because he is terrible, but with his contract out of the way Melvin said teams have contacted him about a trade. JJ was struggling and I am a huge JJ fan. Something needed to be done. Hopefully he finds his swing in AAA and can come back up and salvage the end of his season. He is most likely going to be moved this off-season so seeing what we have in Escobar is a plus. Castro was the only move that could be considered irrational since injuries to an already below average staff cannot be blamed on him.
  3. You seem to have watched play some. What are your opinions of his defense? I am going only off what Money said about him and what scouts have said, which are not always the most encouraging. His caught stealing numbers are up but I do not know about the rest of his game.
  4. Again you have to people better than these guys to replace. That is what the case was with Hall, Hardy, and Castro (okay I dont know there). But right now we have about 5 guys who can do better than what Hall was doing. Escobar and Counsell are both putting up better numbers than Hardy. Kendall has no one to really replace him. Salome is hitting alright but not very good (.755 OPS) and his defense is not good. Rivera is not hitting too well either. I guess either one could come in and play but it would be a lateral move. Suppan has much less reason to go. Before his injury his ERA was 4.5. What more do you want from a number 5 pitcher? I do not care about what he is getting paid because you have to pay it anyone and we have no one to replace him. Villy, Burns, Dillard, and the now injured McClung are worse options.
  5. You remember how bad Counsell was last year right. If we would have went with him as a starter there would have an uprising on this board. Counsell had a lower OPS the two seasons before this one than Hardy has had this year. There are not a lot of good stop gap shortstops that I can think of.
  6. On a side note it will be really interesting to see if JJ is in the lineup tonight for Nashville. They play a late game tonight, he will have plenty of time to get there but I have to assume he will not be playing tonight. The Sounds have a day off tomorrow so Hardy would not play until Friday but my gut tells me there is a chance he is moved by then.
  7. Easy answer. He has worse people who take his place. Kendall has Rivera and Salome. Hardy has Escobar who has a higher OPS than Salome and is amazing defensively. Hall has McGehee, Counsell, Lopez, Hart when healthy, Cat and even Gamel to replace him. Kendall will be gone in the off-season and could be gone today I guess but most like in two plus weeks he will begin to play less when Salome gets his call up.
  8. You may have wanted Escobar to stay in AAA next year but from everything reported by analysts, scouts, etc, Escobar was going to be the starting SS next year for the Brewers. Hardy was already in trade rumors last off-season so Escobar could come in and start. No one made staying in the minors next year seem like an option so they were not as worried about you about his OPS. Guys like Hanley Ramirez and Elvis Andrus did not put up great numbers in the minors but had success early on in the majors so why cant Escobar do the same.
  9. I will be honest and say I do not fully understand how that stat works, but Suppan before his injury with a mid 4 ERA obviously has more value than a guy who is hitting under .200. Then you look at who we have to replace the two players. Suppan we have Villy, Burns, and McClung, and for Hall we have Gamel, McGehee, Heether and Counsell. Hall had no value to this team where Suppan does.
  10. Why? Hall brought absolutely nothing to this team. At least before he got hurt Soup was pitching okay for a number 5 starter. It makes sense to assume Soup hurt his arm around the Pitt start July 22. In that start and the one following he gave up 15 runs in 8 innings jumping his ERA from a very respectable 4.43 to a 5.27. Yes he is paid too much but I would rather pay too much to a guy who is contributing and helping us win games than Bill Hall.
  11. But where is Heether going to play right now? I agree completely he looks like a better hitter than Bourgeois, but he is not an OF'er. He could provide depth in the IF so I would be up for that but you cannot call up a guy who has played all of 17 games in LF and ask him to be your starting RF'er. Heether deserves a look, but the Brewers mistake was not not calling him up now, it was not having him play more LF and RF the past couple months to make him our version of Mark DeRosa
  12. Except who is your backup SS then? Counsell can play there but McGehee cannot and people are saying Lopez has a bad hammy and cannot. Counsell has been nicked up as well. We would have absolutely no depth and it is not like Escobar needs to be Hanley Ramirez with the stick if he can hit close to what he was in AAA with his defense he is very valuable.
  13. We already have Jody Gerut, who has been coming around lately. I think Heether was a much better call up than Bourgeois.Gerut is nice for CF but he is a lefty and Cat is our lefty RF'er. Bourgeois can play RF some nights whereas Heether has played no RF all year and from what I can gather only 17 games in LF. That is a tough transition. We have only have two right-hand hitting OF'ers right now with Hart on the DL and Bourgeois gives us that. Edit - I see where X said that Bourgeois has played no right field and does not have the arm for the position and if that is true than this does not make as much sense. But Heether has not even played the position so he is not the guy who should have been brought up either.
  14. Heether has not played a single game in RF this season and that is where he would be asked to play. We are replacing Hall the OF'er not Hall the IF'er I would assume. Bourgeois plays CF so it would be nice to see what he could do out there in a couple games.
  15. Well it definitely wont be a Hall platoon since he got DFA'ed. Lopez is still your 2B and Magehee is at 3B making Counsell a super sub at all three positions.
  16. How is designating Hall for assignment desperate? Hall is terrible and seeing what we have in Bourgeois makes some sense. He is a natural OF'er unlike Hall anyway.
  17. A guy in the transaction thread is claiming he is 85 % sure Hardy is getting traded and said he knows he is risking his credibility on the site. He said Hardy is being sent down for paperwork reasons so Escobar can start tonight. Here is to hoping he is right and we get a quality pitcher back. Here is the post from Luke7799
  18. TH said Hardy is being sent to AAA not traded. I hope you are right. I would rather see him traded than go to AAA.
  19. Maybe it is the difference of positions but when Gamel got called up and only started a couple games a week people were saying it would hinder his development and that he needed to go back to AAA to start, but now with Salome it will help his development to sit and learn. Why the different feelings on the two similar situations? I am in agreement that Salome should get some starts after Sept. 1st, I guess I just hope Money's comments about his defense were more exaggeration than fact. I can be convinced that him playing just two games a week is good for his development, so if that is the case then I am all for getting a veteran catcher to start most of the games and letting Salome learn.
  20. I hope one of them is ready to split time next year I just have a hard time seeing it with the comments from money on Salome's defense and him coming off a below average year offensively. Lucroy is only in AA right now and is starting to hit well but I would be surprised to see him jump to the majors and start. I hope one of them can do it though
  21. I agree with the difference not seeming too big and JohnBriggs makes a great point about how some of the Brewers young guys have not spent much time in AAA. There are obviously players who don't continue success in AAA. I look at Will Inman who has struggled mightily as AAA (actually he got demoted recently) after pitching very well at AA and you also have guys like Chris Cody and other soft tossers who seem to struggle once they hit AAA more than AA. Angel Salome has been an interesting case as well, because I think most of us expected him to continue his torrid hitting in AAA but he has been much less of a power hitter up there, although injuries seem to be a big factor with him. However, the jump to the majors is so big. Very few guys can be like Braun and Longoria and rip the cover off the ball right away or Yo and pitch very well...most guys struggle at first like Weeks, Homer Bailey, David Price (as a starter), etc. The learning curve is high.
  22. Fiers looks like this years Wooten. If guys like Wooten (even though his ERA has climbed his peripherals are still great), Axford and Fiers can continue their quick rise we could have some nice homegrown depth in our bullpen.
  23. But how does backing up in the majors help their development any more than splitting time in AAA and maybe having Lucroy play some first base or something? I actually think the most likely scenario is that one of them is packaged with Hardy or Hart to get pitching this off-season. Neither seem ready for the majors but you are right splitting time is not ideal either.
  24. Salome is a nice prospect but you under value Lucroy a ton. His defense is ahead of Salome in pretty much every way from reports and stats. Even this year with Salome's caught stealing being better Lucroy is still 7% better than him. Lucroy struggled early this year partially because of bad luck if you look at his BABip, now that that number is creeping back toward normal his numbers are look very good. You can say Lucroy has only had a good past 10-15 games but he his OPS of .795 is .36 points higher than Salome's for the year. He plays better defense and has better offensive numbers this year (and for their career they are about equal), and Lucroy seems more durable. Don't get me wrong I think Salome is a really good prospect and here is to hoping his defense becomes major league ready. I know he had some injury problems a couple years in the minors but outside of his amazing year last year at Huntsville and a great half a season in rookie ball his offensive numbers have never been good but not great. So you have to wonder if he is more of a .800 OPS guy like he was in low and high A and now in AAA or is he the guy who dominated AA. Next year should be interesting because it looks like both Salome and Lucroy will be in AAA. Taking Moneys' comments, his overall stats and durability concerns into account it seems like Salome will not be our starting catcher next year and i doubt they bring him up to sit the bench. Lucory's finish to this year shows that he is ready for AAA so having both in Nashville will be interesting.
  25. Can we trade prospects with a waiver player? I am not really sure how all that works. Could we send JJ and a prospect for Buchholz or another pitcher or would can it only involve the waiver wire player?
