  1. It is not hard to imagine a scenario where all 5 guys in the rotation have an ERA under 4 - Thornburg being the wild card. I could see the starting rotation having an average ERA in the mid to upper 3's which would be enough to top half of the NL and if things break right - healthy Yo, Peralta takes the next step, Thornburg is for real, Lohse stays like he was this year, and Estrada stays close to his last 3 years - this rotation could in the 3.5 area which would be right around the Pirates this year. Now everything could blow up and Yo could be Yo from the start of the year, Peralta regresses, Thornburg pulls a Fiers, Lohse ages quickly, and Estrada falls apart, but I feel pretty good it isnt likely. Outside of Lohse these are not soft tossers that seem likely to regress.
  2. IF they can find some IF help next year i dont know if I would move a pitcher unless someone offers great value. I know a lot of people disagree but I think this team can contend for a Wild Card spot next year. Gallardo has regained his form. Lohse has proven he isnt a fluke but a solid started. Peralta has very good upside and found consistency after a terrible start. Estrada may be pitching over his head but he is still an effective back of the rotation guy and Thorburg has earned the right to pitch next year. Nelson could go back to AAA or be a bullpen arm. On offense they will have a very good hitting OF, SS, and C. Hart could come back cheap at 1st. However I still dont know what we do at 3B and 2B. Scooter probably has earned the right to play 2B next year but his lack of walks scare me.
  3. This year was a lost year but his hitting isnt terribly far off what he did last year. His value last year was in his defense but many felt those numbers were inflated quite a bit. He definitely has time to straighten things out but two years in a row he is a low .700 OPS guy and until he got to Vegas (which is a notoriously hitters friendly league) he was only a high .700 OPS guy in the minors. So his OPS was 18th out 21 3b (with over 400 AB) in 2012. This year is 20th out of 24. Considering his bat not his glove was his strong suit those numbers are pretty surprising
  4. Here is an article that pretty much states what I did with more stats. His WAR last year seemed extremely inflated and has come crashing down this year. http://www.rantsports.com/mlb/2013/09/23/toronto-blue-jays-brett-lawrie-remains-a-tough-read-as-2013-draws-to-a-close/
  5. Brett Lawrie continues to be one of the most mystifying players in baseball to me. He had a very good August - .892 OPS - which made it seem like maybe he was rebounding to the form many thought he would show. Then comes September and an OPS of .522. I dont know what to make of Lawrie's potential. He has only had one month with a batting average over .213 this season. Personally I since he left the Brewers I have selfishly (and maybe sadly) not wanted to see Lawrie succeed. I always figured he would but since i didnt want to give up an all-star I tried to convince myself he wouldnt turn out. Now I am wondering if he really wont become the player many of us thought he would
  6. Runs may be down but the best ERA in the NL for starters over the course of a year is the Dogers at 3.16. The average ERA of those 5 guys has been 2.96 for the second half. Even if they increased a half a run they would be tied for 3rd. If they come close to that next year this team would surprise a ton of people. The Brewers will score runs with Gomez, Segura, Braun, Lucroy and others. If the rotations is somehow top half of the NL this team will be contending for the playoffs
  7. Not sure if you were responding to my post but the only way I said Nelson would get the spot is if there is a trade. I think there is a chance either Lohse, Gallardo, or Estrada is dealt. If that happens Nelson becomes the number 5 guy. It really depends on if Melvin thinks they can win next year, if Mark A is okay with rebuilding, and if the market is good for anyone of those guys. Gallardo has definitely got his value back up after taking the time off.
  8. I dont see how Thornburg hasnt earned a spot in the rotation for 2014. I actually think the rotation should be set as of right now but hopefully a trade or two opens the door for someone else. Peralta, Gallardo, Thornburg, Estrada, and Lohse should be the rotation barring injury or trade. If they are serious about building for the future Gallardo, Lohse, and even Estrada could be potential trade targets. Nelson, Burgos, or maybe Hellweg could have shots to take the 5th spot if there is a trade.
  9. The original Death at a Funeral
  10. Not sure if this is noted but in October Windows 8.1 is coming out and it sounds like it fixing most of the major issues people are having. That said, I have found it easier to use than others and my wife who is not tech savvy at all has liked it. She did get an ASUS touchscreen laptop (similar size to the Air just a thicker but still light weight).
  11. Interesting. I guess I never had the problem with my pc laptop slowing down a lot. I had one for five years and now have had this one for almost 2 and they both have been great. Maybe I dont use it for similar things. Also I do think most people could get around using office and open office is a way to go, but I think Google drive is even better. We use it for work and it is great. Not as many features as some of the other products but the ability for different OS to edit and access is great. Honestly if I have talked to people who have a chromebook and they seem like a perfect second laptop for a family or for a kid.
  12. I havent spent that much on a laptop but one thing I wanted to say one thing in regard to your post. If lack of viruses is a fear I really wouldnt worry. I have had 3 pc laptops and never had a virus. Well I take that back I had a pretty minor one once when my wife clicked on something she never should have. In the last couple years we have been a two laptop family and never had a virus. I am not a Mac guy but if you want light and portable the Mac Book Air is the choice for my friends who use Macs. I wouldnt go with the Pro if you are going for light weight. Another thing that others may disagree with but dont think a tablet is going to suffice for school usage. Most of my friends who tried to go to an IPad as a primary device bought a laptop a year later. As for lightweight non-Macs there are plenty of good ultrabooks out there. Here is one sites breakdown - http://reviews.cnet.com/best-ultrabooks/
  13. Jennings to Detroit? Looks like it is going to happen. Jennings to Detroit and Milwaukee gets Brandon Knight, Khris Middleton, and Viacheslav Kravtsov. http://espn.go.com/nba/story/_/id/9522945/detroit-pistons-acquire-brandon-jennings-sign-trade-milwaukee-bucks-according-sources
  14. Yeah 1 million is a lot but he has made over 24 million in his career so far so I am guessing he will be alright!
  15. Greinke almost sounds like some of us fans in that interview. I really like that guy
  16. I am all for trading Yo and Lohse however I would disagree 1-6 are necessary for the Brewers to compete next year. If you have a solid 1-3 in your rotation with a solid Lineup - Aoki, Gomez, Segura, Braun, Lucroy is a great start even if Ramirez and Weeks are not the 2011 or 2012 versions. Now the reason I am all for trading Yo and Lohse is because I dont think 1 is possible and I actually dont see Lohse pitching this well in 2014. We need to get younger and take our lumps. IF there is a market and we can get a good return for both of them then I say trade them.
  17. Lohse should be the top arm on the market right now. He is having a great year and was really good the past two years. Teams could be scared off by his salary the next two years but that actually looks like a great value right now and it is only two more years. Hopefully something happens the next few days because you would think a team would want him on their roster for his next start
  18. The Shumaker quote was great. There is some real hypocrisy with the "outrage" of some players. Dont get me wrong I am glad Braun got caught since he was using but one of Shumaker's teammates is using and helps the team win a World Series, do you think he would have the same reaction to the guy?
  19. I have always said if Braun used, which now it is no longer an if, it was probably to rehab an injury. I know he was hurt in 2011 but I am not sure if the timing fits. Like fondy said he could have just switched suppliers, but how odd is it that he started using that year of all years? his 2010 season was down for his standards. His 2011 was great as was 2012. I wonder if he was crazy enough to keep using last year
  20. This is the right move. Considering what we got for KRod I think holding out for a first round type guy makes sense. The question was asked what would we give up for Lohse and that is almost impossible to answer because we are not in the playoff hunt and our cupboard is so bare. If I were another team with a deeper farm system I would be more willing to give up a young pitcher for two years of Lohse
  21. You realize he was a 6th round pick because people knew he would be a tough sign, right? He got paid like a supplemental pick or better. That is where he would have gone if signing wasnt a question. He is 21 years old and has never played 3B until this year. Give him time before saying he cant stick there. Who are the 9-14 guys you would put ahead of Delmonico in our system?
  22. Hard to take that list seriously, with where they have Jungmann & Bradley. But still, I find it a bit hard to believe that Delmonico wouldn't slot into the top 5 of any objective Brewers system ranking. What a great return for 2+ months of a reliever. Doug Melvin is definitely 2-2 on his last two trades. That list is just terrible. Nelson at 8? Taylor at 13?
  23. You have to believe Loshe and Gallardo helped their trade value with their starts coming out of the break.
  24. Castellanos' natural position is at 3b. One that is occupied by the best 3b in baseball, Miguel Cabrera for who knows how many more seasons? Detroit has moved him to RF down in the minors but you just don't know how well he sticks out there defensively. If he can't cut it, then Detroit has a AAA player only in Castellanos. So if you can help patch up your team to win the World Series by trading a AAA player by all means they have to do so. Man I hope you are right but if I were a Tigers fan I would be ticked if they traded Castellanos for a RP or two and Aoki. Castellanos should be able to get an All-Star or better, not two older relievers and an okay OF. If Melvin makes that trade he is a thief so I hope you are right!
  25. What am I missing that Castellanos' name is being brought up in trades for relief pitching? The kid is a stud and I would be surprised if two RP and Aoki got him. I would do that deal in a heart beat. I dont think there is anyway we get another play thrown in. A decent OF and two RP for a top 30 prospect? Seems lopsided to me. Now our tradeable comp pick might be a good chip here.
