Not quite the same thing, but it does touch on "uncatchable balls." I was watching the Sunday Night Football game, and Josh Allen threw a go route on the sideline and the receiver (maybe Davis) clearly cut off the route and squared to the sidelines. The ball was thrown 20 yards past where the receiver was and a flag was thrown for intentional grounding. Cris Collinsworth and the Terry McAuley (the expert referee on standby), got into a discussion where McAuley was trying to defend the rule while Cris Collinsworth explained the route was a "choice route." Allen threw the ball before Davis cut off the route. It was obvious what had happened, but the referees "had to throw the flag." I understand that there is judgment involved. However, there are certain things that are way too obvious and should not be called. I suppose that is the human element of the game.

I was in the band in the late 80's and early 90's. It was very cool leaning out over the glass between plays and yell crap to players. The hockey players appreciated the grief we gave the other team.

The pattern lately was to go with a very young team, and bring in some offensive players that will "hopefully" have a good year. "Hope" was a common theme throughout the article. Yes -- if the Brewers were to theoretically go out and sign a Matt Chapman, Rhys Hoskins, or a high-level free agent, there will still be some "hoping." The Brewers do not have the luxury of making those types of mistakes. Even so, they need some more veterans who can contribute -- not necessarily hit for a .900 OPS, but be fundamental offensively like Mark Canha. The Brewers seem to have a fairly good formula for talent on the bump. However, the offensive side of the ball has been abysmal. Hoping that this many young players will be more successful next year is very, very hopeful. I hope it works better than it has for the Packers.

I will call myself out -- I thought the Badgers were going to get trounced. Up to this point, the offense did nothing to show they could stay on the field and the defense was very suspect. I was very impressed with the defense. Earlier in the year, it didn't seem like the defensive backfield knew when to hand off receivers to somebody else. They did that much better, although handing off Harrison, Jr. to anybody but a "Richard Sherman" would not have helped 😉 Although Todd Blackledge kept talking about how great the OSU defense was, a lot of the OSU defense success was due to Wisconsin not executing. When Allen went down, I had a really bad feeling. My takeaways: I am excited at what Locke will continue to bring to the table. The TD pass "flick" was reminiscent of what a Mahomes would do. I think he will learn the ins and outs of the Longo system. The offensive line is banged up. However, they did a good job holding off the OSU defense. Much better than I expected. While they lost, I'm still encouraged. That may sound weird, but it wasn't a terrible loss.

I can't see the back side rotation, but it appears the defensemen are much more aggressive. If there is a loose puck towards the faceoff circle on the boards, they are attacking it. Although there weren't a lot of shots on goal, the Badgers controlled the puck in the zone in 5x5 situations. I didn't see Thursday's game, which had the Badgers outshooting the Gophers big time. I was impressed with Minnesota's goalie. I was also sad that so many Gophers have last names from Badger lineage (Snuggerud and Strobel). Oh well.

Fortunately, I didn't watch the Iowa game because I was building a hunting stand. I watched the game this week and was frustrated and excited. The Badgers make so many mistakes. I was surprised to see Wisconsin had "only" six penalties vs. 9 for the Illini. Of the six penalties, how many were pre-snap? Probably close to all of them. Also, Rucci should be taking Jugs passes with the WR corps -- to SHOW THEM HOW TO CATCH A BALL! How many high-talented WRs came in via transfer portal? I am simply amazed that they can't make even simply catches. Yes -- Locke's passes weren't all perfect, but I thought they were supposed to be ultra-talented. I don't understand why, on 3rd and 1, they are in the shotgun... or the pistol. I almost pooped my pants the one time when they were under center and pushed their way to a first down. They did that with Allen at the end of the game when it was 2nd and 1 from the 1. Stuff city... On a RPO or a read option, I think it is ok for Locke to keep the ball. If it is an integral part of the "air raid" offense, they should be practicing it a lot. Maybe that is why the Wisconsin defender got burnt at the end of the game when Altmyer kept the ball -- because Wisconsin's offense RARELY has the QB keep the ball. Keep the defense honest. However, I am excited to see Locke progress. He dropped the one in the bucket nicely, but he needs to learn to lead the crossers a little bit more. He also showed some moxie getting up after getting sacked on the targeting call. That said, Badgers lose by 50+ next week to OSU.

The Brewers got too excited yesterday. The baserunning errors were because they were not staying the course. I admire what Yelich was trying to do, but the SS ended up going back to third. Also, there had damn well better be some type of a plan for the hitters going up to the plate. I seriously think swinging at a pitch at the letters or four balls off the inside on strike zero constitutes hitters having a plan.

I think you are right on. I believe he was told to do that to elevate the ball more. Not a fan of that, quite honestly. I think as he squats, his head isn't staying at the same level. His hands are dropping and that is why he can't stay on top of the ball.
