  1. Man, best pitcher and now best player on the D.L. for the Cards. Hopefully the Brewers take advantage and gain ground on 2nd place and the Wild Card.
  2. Aaron endured death threats during his run against Babe Ruth's Home Run record in a divisive southern city of Atlanta during the aftermath of the Civil Rights era while Bonds endured the "steroids questions." I'd be almost positive Bonds has received a few death threats in his day, just because it's not the south during the Civil Rights movement doesn't mean there aren't any sick people left. I personally think you're underrating Manny a bit. He's already at 505 HR and is on pace for about 25 more this season. Even if he only plays another two years after this, he'd probably get at least 40 more total barring any big injuries, which puts him at 570. His career OPS+ is 154, where Willie Mays's was 156. Ramirez is also already 24th all time in RBI's. While a lot of people realize it's team-oriented, I'm sure people who vote for HOFers will look at that in high regard.
  3. I always thought the Potawatomi (sp?) Casino ads were cheesy. Those billboards along the interstate with that guy's arrogant mug on them are pretty annoying IMO.
  4. After the Braves cut it to 6-5 in the 8th, the Cubs answer with 4 in the bottom of the inning, ugh.
  5. I'm not sure if you're responding to me or not, but I in no way suggested today's game was Yost's fault. I simply asked if anyone here thought bringing in Tavarez was a good move.
  6. I think that's the most pitches he's thrown this year, plus a runner was on when his spot came up in the top of the 7th so they had to pinch hit.
  7. Ten games? How can you think they'd win 10 more games. It's Gabe Kapler who would be replacing Mike Cameron, not Willie Mays.
  8. Using Tavarez in a 1 run game in the 7th inning, nice. I'm very curious if anyone here would use him in that situation if they were the manager for today.
  9. Cameron sure picked the right time to look foolish on defense.
  10. I don't even know if Mulder can be effective anymore throughout his career. Since the end of '05 he's only pitched 104 innings while giving up 23 home runs with 53 Ks/42 BBs, and has had two rotator cuff surgeries. It sucks because I was a huge fan of the early 2000's Oakland teams but I can't imagine he could be that great again.
  11. One thing that Francona does that Yost doesn't, which I'll admit might not make the biggest differences in the long run, is that he's not afraid to mix things up. He'll change around his lineup somewhat often, players might play in two different positions back to back games, etc. Yost refuses to ever play Hart in CF, even though he started some games there last year and may well be the CFer the next couple years. Second basemen must lead off and CF must bat 2nd (maybe that's why he doesn't put Hart there once in a while?). He puts Dillon at 2nd when Weeks isn't playing instead of switching up him and Hall. I guess it's just little things like that that can annoy me.

  13. He had 16 walks in 10 innings before today. I think it's 21 in 11 1/3 now, ouch.
  14. Two-run shot into right field in Florida.
  15. Although it doesn't make it right, a few other managers do the same thing with the lineup as Yost. Of the top of my head, I know Leyland does it. Personally, I don't think it makes sense at all. I'm watching the Indians on ESPN and Sizemore has the day off, so the back-up CFer is leading off, I just thought it was funny. I personally think the bean ball is stupid in almost all instances. Sure you might get "payback", you could also get multiple players suspended due to a brawl.
  16. Gibbons definitely seems old-school. Aside from the "my way or the highway", every time I check the Blue Jays box score ( I have a couple players on my fantasy team) it seems like the pitcher throws 120+. I know Halladay is a workhorse, but geeze.
  17. Like others have side, Twins fans seem way too plain and subdued compared to Cubs fans. The Brewers play them just as often as they play the Marlins or the Diamondbacks, just because they're the bordering state doesn't really make it a big rivalry. I go to UW-La Crosse and know of a handful of kids who are both Vikings and Brewers fans, I'm not really sure why. Most of them are from Western or NW Wisconsin, though.
  18. It looks like Yost is applying invisible carmex during his post-game interview.
  19. Whew what a game. For sure didn't deserve to win that one, then again the Rockies really didn't either. Torres is awesome.
  20. Hart surprisingly has hit into 6 double plays here, still just an awful decision. Anyone else feel like the Rockies will win this one?
  21. Now guys, Yost made his good moves today in the 8th by bringing in Counsell for defense and Torres in the high leverage situation, you can't ask for him to not make another dumb on.
  22. They're sacrafice bunting their 5 hitter to have Hall and Hardy get at bats against a righty. Just ignore the sign Corey.
  23. How about some of those elusive "Badger Mutual Insurance Runs!" The offense has been a bit stale the last 6 innings.
