  1. From the Journal Sentinel a few days ago: https://www.jsonline.com/story/money/2020/10/07/miller-park-roof-drive-system-replacement-part-plan/5898429002/ The TL:DR version for those of you in a hurry: - The system that controls the retractable roof will be replaced, over 18 months - The fire detection system will be replaced - LED field lighting will be installed - A women's locker room will be added, now that the Giants have a female coach - The name change to American Family Field officially takes place January 1, 2021 - The stadium district board expects the team to request some degree of rent forgiveness since revenue for 2020 was so diminished.
  2. I work a few blocks north of the UW-Madison dorms that are currently quarantined, and a few blocks west of most of the Greek houses that are quarantined. Yay! But my building is only open by appointment, currently nine hours per week, so I just do my thing in my office and eat right there. My current work does not put me in contact with any researchers.
  3. At least, I could imagine much worse. The structure wasn't named for Monkey Knife Fight!
  4. We were at the team store earlier this month and there was some discounted Spring Training merchandise right by the entrance. If you're unable to visit, contact them at (414) 902-4750 or teamstore@brewers.com. Hope that helps. This year, I'd think they'd be motivated to help someone who wants more merchandise.
  5. Laura would be a nice nod to the monster storm of 2020, plus homage to your favorite BF moderator who was also born in February. I don't think it totally clashes with your surname, either.
  6. Awww, stalton, thanks. I haven't laughed much this week, until I read that. And our weatherman comes through with the underlying weather truth. This should be the last Hurricane Laura, at least. It is weird, the number of double takes I've done the last few days, because I don't usually hear my name on TV or radio.
  7. For years my name has been on the National Hurricane Center's list of possible names for the Atlantic storm season. These last few days, I've learned how quickly my stance on it can move from "hm, Tropical Storm Laura, interesting novelty" to "my name is a trending hashtag and all over the news and it's no longer funny."
  8. If April 2021 seating is every other row, or otherwise spaced out, not everyone is going to be able to join in.
  9. Counterpoint: You prefer Kraig Kounsell and SeeSee Sabathia?
  10. I just want to point out that back in January, I labeled this "not bugging you" thread to cover the 2020s, not just 2020. (Also, congratulations on completing your master's)
  11. Keeping it random, this driver's ed talk is reminding me of the driver's ed instructor in my high school, who between my taking the class and my 5-years-younger sister taking it...was arrested for OWI and was allowed work-release access to his car. This would have been the mid-1980s.
  12. Adam McCalvy has shared a little more via Twitter ( ): That sounds more legit than a placeholder, though I imagine Ryan will use the healing period to determine how much more of the 2020 season he wants to be part of.
  13. I'm thinking it's a placeholder type injury, while he sees how the virus progresses over the next ten days. (Or about the next week, since retro to July 30 should mean he could be back August 9-10.)
  14. I kind of reflexively want to blame St. Louis.
  15. I mean, we've seen him (at least I've noticed him) chewing on his fingernails for years, but he hasn't been on the IL for it before. *Runs to wash hands*
  16. Per @Brewers Twitter ( ): Ewwww.
  17. I've got an example of that in my extended family - my cousin's husband (early 60s). In my cousin's words, he "hasn't followed any of the Covid precautions since day one..so when he came back last weekend from a fishing trip up north with friends, and the news that one of them along with that friends family members, had tested positive, we had to go into quarantine. My husband did get tested on Thursday ( not fun!)...its been awful to wait.....but just got a call now-he tested negative! Relief! At least for now relief, until he gets exposed to it again." The "until" wasn't even a day. A few hours later, she posted that he visited the home of someone who has been exposed to the virus. The husband has a lengthy history of doing as he pleases, with little if any forethought or regard for others. He's had his share of health problems and is likely to be at extra risk for severe complications if he catches it. It looks like this COVID experience might be the final straw for my cousin, who is contemplating leaving him and the marriage.
  18. Apologies for being kind of vent-y, but W H Y does it always* seem to be STL that causes the Brewers trouble?! Now a new kind of trouble. *I know it's not truly always, but it's often enough.
  19. I'm enjoying all of the banter. The only thing that stings so far in summer camp is how many media photos/videos come from very near our loge seats. They make me pine for being able to attend games.
  20. [sarcasm]COVID WOAH SOLVDD[/sarcasm]
  21. I've been hoping that the 2021 season* has the same matchups as 2020 would have. If I were a scheduler, the only change I'd make for the Brewers is having opening day be against just about anyone but chc. *I don't know if referring to "the 2021 season" is overly optimistic or not.
  22. Oh, BSCR, I'm so sorry to hear about your mom. You have my condolences. Since I last posted here, UW-Madison released its plan for fall semester, with a snappy motto and logo and everything: https://smartrestart.wisc.edu/ It lines up with what I'd heard recently: in-person instruction where possible until Thanksgiving, then all remote operations for the rest of fall semester. The current plan doesn't go beyond fall semester. It does line up more or less with a football season, but they're probably also eager to get whatever room and board money they can get, too. That Smart Restart (which to me sounds more like an appliance feature than a plan for running a large campus during a pandemic) has a LOT to unpack. I don't think UW would admit it at this point, but it has to all be subject to change, in case the situation goes way way south.
  23. Well, I can see and reply to your post, DHonks, so I'm hoping so. The forum worked for me when I visited briefly at midday Tuesday. Earlier today, after Mass Haas alerted me, I was able to log in but not open any posts. I got word of that to Brian K and either he was able to bring about change or it returned on its own. Fingers crossed...
  24. I don't know if this makes the picture clearer or muddier, but I'd bought some extra tickets to Bark at the Park Night (purchased outside our SSH account) and got this email from the Brewers on Monday: (Under the last line is a Learn More button) I haven't decided what I want to do with this (relatively small) sum yet, but I clicked on the Learn More button to see where it went. The next screen is titled "2020 Impacted Game Ticket Refund Request," with this text underneath, followed by a form which I won't copy here: My hope is they'll consider not resetting the SSH seniority counter for SSHs who request a refund for 2020 tickets. Some folks need the money. (Since some Brewers employees are furloughed, I'd like to think the organization would understand this, but I'm not going to assume.)
  25. Regarding the 2020-2021 school year, some universities are considering having mostly in-person instruction until Thanksgiving, and then moving to online for the rest of fall semester. (It was mentioned in a virtual meeting I participated in last week and I don't remember if school names were mentioned.) That would avert the annual germ exchange that tends to hit post-secondary education between Thanksgiving and the end of the calendar year.
